Skull Cards. Yup.

Anyway, I got one of these "Skull Cards" at the closest GW when buying. Apparently you can hand them in over there, with 10 skulls being a reserved table, 30 a miniature painted by staff, and 50 skulls will get you the help of a staff member for half a day with whatever GW thing you want.

So, I was wondering, are these things "there" in all GW stores? And since when? I quite like the idea, seems pretty neat to me.

Hmm my local GW offers all of this just for being there. The guy who owns it is a pretty nice guy.

He painted up like half of my tanks

My local GW lets you book tables, painting sessions or tactics tutorials just for asking. No kind of reward scheme needed.

Phah!

Not that I get there often (around 80km away, and a FLGS is around 30km away), but that's pretty lame.

I was wondering if these things popped up in other places too, since they looked pretty "GW-manufactured".

Maybe the store is running into a little trouble money wise.

Seems like one of those schemes.

So, how much does one have to buy to simply use the tables?

I don't know if I would go as far as calling it a scheme. Just because a business does something to generate revenue, and they think of a clever way to incentivize their customers in doing so isn't a bad thing IMO.

As far as using them to reserve a table; that might be taking it a tad far. But as far as the employee for half a day thing, that's actually kinda cool; especially if you're just starting on a new army model/paint wise.

I didn't mean a plot to take all of our money, just a scheme to increase profits.

Perhaps I worded it wrong.

Oh no it is a plot make no mistake lol GW wants all of our hard earned dollars. The Khornedozer is a horribly perfect example of this. I was only referring to the store level.

My local store did something like this but I only heard about it once and since then, things have ran as they always had. I'm thinking it failed a little.

"I hate 6th! Fix it GW!!!"
"Seventh edition? Feth that GW! I'm sticking with sixth to show you who is boss! Via la revolution!"
"I'm not buying anything from you no more! Apart from three riptides, new codex, starter set and rulebook... but that's it!"

And that is how I see Dakka ^_^

A few months ago there was a thread about earning reserved tables, painting station, etc... in London. You earned time by hitting certain dollar amounts...

Ohmahgod! It's Dutch Coolness?

That doesn't quite seem like a good deal, anyway. Most of my local FLGS actively wants people to use their tables, and does whatever they can to fill the tables up and make it seem like a community space- even if the people just leave without buying anything. Table Reservations in a gaming store seems like an odd idea.

As for having someone help you paint your miniatures, idk. I would hate to let some grubby games-store owner getting his nasty hands on my miniatures. Isn't getting to paint the miniatures half the fun?

Ermahgawd it's Dutch Coolness!

Same goes for my FLGS. Events and the like are free to attend, too.

I'd definitely agree on painting miniatures being a lot of fun. On the other hand, I can see that some extra help with a project would be nice. If you're, say, making a massive board with fortifications and the like, you could hand in your SKULL CARDS (TM) and get the staff to cut everything from the sprues! Hah!

 Grimtuff wrote:

A mere ten SKULLS. One skull being recieved for every €10,- you spend... Using them would be free, but you can reserve one for a certain date by handing in those SKULLS.

I hope that you're kidding us...I really, really do. 100$ (!!!) to reserve a table? Sounds like a huge scam to me.

In general, everything you mentioned should be free in a GW store, bar the extensive customer care. The only reason why you would buy something at GW directly would be if you got something in return for paying more than the usual price - the "usual price" being the amount of money you spent at online stores at a discount of 20% or more. The same applies, of course, for FLGS.

Nope, I'm not kidding.

That table better be painted by 'Eavy Metal, uses FW RoB Tiles, come with expertly crafted scenery and comes with a busty waitress to serve you free food and drinks for those requirements.

I have sadly seen none of these things, though the table was painted nicely!

GW Bristol (centre) has Squig tokens.
They hold an auction every whenever for reserving tables, miniatures painted by staff, the help of a staff member for half a day, playing a game against a staff member etc

One Squig/ token=£10.

I just hand mine to the closest kid.

At least Squig Tokens sounds better!

Other than that, pretty much the same as those Skulls.
