I want to start a new army that will for the most likely be my last one that I get for a while, just wanted some quick opinions before I get one
I am torn between the two and cannot decide which would be better to grab, the army would need to ally with dark angels though, because in low point games my deathwing army falls too easily, but the dark angels could be the ally for those games

Just be blunt with me, just want to make the right call before I pick an army I won't actually like...

thanks for any help ⏳

Since you're going Imperial, go IG.

Not a lot of synergies between Dark Angels and Eldar.

Why have this when you could have THIS.

Imperial Guard beats out snobby space panzies all day every day. Unless you are a tournament. Then you realize how far Phil Kelly's love for Eldar can tilt the results.

OK so imperial guard it is... I shall remove all of my money post-haste and prepare for my wallet rape.

Finalish question

Command squad + veterans + leman Russ tanks + chimeras

Good start?

Well, the synergy between Eldar and DA is rather low.

So I think that IG (or AM) will be the better choice.

The DA and IG have almost legendary amounts of synergy.

The Eldar and DA...not so much.

Good choice, IG will serve you well. And always remember, its never rape if you yell surprise first.

This is actually a very good deal, especially if you have an FLGS that can get it for you at further discount:

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Cadian-Defence-Force

Your only option is Cadian or Catachan, and to field a decent sized army you'd probably need at least 2 of them plus whatever bells and whistles you want to add. Easing into an IG army is the way to go, and luckily you have some other stuff to play or ally with while you build it up.

Come to think of it, I hope my FLGS has one of those on the shelf Friday...

Welcome cadet, to the Astra Mil...just kidding.

Played Guard forever, always loved them. The starter kits are the more reasonably priced options (at least for now). Fun fact, you don't have to paint Cadians green. Painted mine dark blue, with brown gear and metallic lasguns, they look awesome. Chimeras and Leman Russes (Russi?) are always good choices. I like the elites and fast attack choices (unlike some Guard players) but you can run excellent lists without them. Troops and HS first.

Go both.

IG and Eldar work well together without the DA, so there's 3 allied armies you can run. Lots more choice.

I'd work out what both armies would bring to DA, and get just enough to run 1 HQ, 1 troop and 1 other.
Eldar are fast, but so are DA. Eldar also have Psychics and good S6-8 firepower, like War Walkers. Jetbike troops, too, which can have a jetbike HQ with them.
IG have platoons for blobs, and AV14-fronted tanks. Either use IG troops to camp objectives, or go heavy to plod up the table. IG now get a Leman Russ squadron as an HQ choice.

Anyway, that box looks a good deal.
You might want to get another few men by padding out with the 5-man "Cadians (5 models)" pack. It'll let you model-up more options, as there are a lot on the sprues in that pack. You can choose whether to use banners, or vox-casters, for instance.
Use the LRBT as your HQ, and the rest in a platoon. Use the PCS in the Chimera. That'd be:
HQ: Tank Commander
Troops: Platoon command squad, in Chimera,
2x 10-man infantry squads (join them up as a 20-man),
1x heavy weapon squad.

LOL whats pretty funny is the misconception everyone have about the eldar. everyone says space elves but in reality they are the most technological superior race in the game rivaled only by the necrons. The only reason IG are able to destroy anything eldar is so that there is some semblance of game balance. They really don't dress like the image above but everyone has the misconception that they do. In reality they wear armor that is as strong (in some cases) as space marine armor but lighter and more flexible. If you ask me the space marine armor just goes to show just how far behind the humans are. Bulky slow armor that offers no more protection then the light flexible eldar armor.

Tall.

Skinny.

Effete.

Graceful.

Generally beautiful and youthful.

Older than thou.

Holier than thou.

Pointy ears.

Yeah, they're space elves.

Oh yes they're a gorgeously detailed and aesthetically pleasing army with great background.

I hope for more Eldar viewpoint novels in the future to be honest.

Last I checked the "Emperor's finest" as you call them still have their home world... the Eldar do not.

That may be. But we have the Macharius tank while you got the Wraithknight. We may die, sir, but we'll die looking cool.

I do like the Eldar aesthetic overall though. The Forgeworld tanks, Fire Prism and Dire Avengers are spiffy. I have a few Eldar models myself.

BTW I do love me some good hearted trash talk; nothing condescending mind you, just some good ol fashioned ribbing back n forth

Well.... We have Wraithblades, and you have Ogryns. But I guess Ogryns are cool. If you want your army to have a "HEY YOU GUUUUYYS" feel
We prefer curves, gems and plasma that doesn't get hot :p

But them Death Korps models are something else all together.

Last time I checked the imperium of man had lost mars and they were on the verge of having their homeworld attacked... so if GW would just advance the story you wouldn't have your homeworld either.

We like our tanks like we like our women: Boxy, slightly rusted, filthy as feth and covered in rivets. Wait...

I mean, look at our fighters alone. Sure, the K/D ratios may not be as good as the Imperium would like but they still look awesome. That Vulture gunship. And Valkyrie. And Marauder bomber. What do you have, that bird looking thing? Please.

Imperial Guard forever.

The crimson hunters turned back an invading hiveship from one of their worlds. That bird thing is one of the best air to air fighters in the game (not including FW). BS 5 with 4 shots of STR 8 weaponry takes down just about any other flyer in the game with relative easy not to mention the vector dancer rule.

It's also very vulnerable to return fire. A Vendetta can easily take it down if it gets the first round of shooting. But if it does get the first volley... yeah....

There is also this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Navy/VULTURE-GUNSHIP.html. A twin linked punisher cannon means one really, really sad Crimson Hunter. It also has Vector Dancer and superior armor. And looks a ton better. But you did say outside of Forge World so this is just a general point.
