I know I am.

Even if Ive been waiting for a re-release for some time I still hold off buying a new army when they are re-released because of the sudden crazy rush. Where everyone and their mothers seem to buy that one army and suddenly the board is swarmed with them. I don't understand the rush, I get it that people want the new thing in but for warhammer, where the army choice is based on what you like I don't understand why everyone goes out and buys the new army. Surely they all can't suddenly decide that one army is for them, its because its shiny and new but its a stupid reason to sink your money into an army you will get bored of quickly.

what does everyone else think of the new army rush?

Shred City.

You keep saying 'everyone' goes out and buys.

Who is everyone? The moron fotm gamers? So what? They'll liquidate it in a few months anyway. I'll start a new army when I'm really getting into their lore or become attracted to the models. This is why I have like 8 right now. Has nothing to do with rules - those change all the time.

I agree. I don't have 8 armies but when I see stuff I like I'll start getting it. My WOC and VC are sitting while I finish my OK. As far as 40k goes I'm getting rid of my SM and focusing on DE and Eldar. I havn't gone out and picked up a new release for GW since 7th ed VC.

My personal goal is 10000 points of Warhammer total, going to have two Imperial Guard (one of storm troopers) armies and a Wood Elf army for Fantasy. With that much warhammer I should be set, the only thing that would change my mind is if plastic Steel Legion came out. I have been an Imperial Guard player since 3rd edition and have remained true to that and don't see it changing anytime soon.

I've peaked on Sisters so I've been looking other armies. I was heavilly looking at DE because I like the models, but since I've started experimenting with an airbrush I've started looking at maybe doing Guard or Tau instead because I can do a lot more with it than I would with DE.

I have 3 40k armies, 1 fantasy, 1 Warmachine, 1 Infinity, 1 Malifaux, and 1 Freeblades army/forces.

40k is the worst culprit and I want a Tau Auxiliary and a BA force.

I have cut back as I am more focused on painting, so I'm putting off most of the GW stuff as I grow out my skirmish game armies. I have an Eldar Force waiting on shelf.

I try to keep one army per game system. keeps things manageable. It also avoids the horrible down fall of spending too much money on needless models and having armies of grey.

Nope. I've bought more units from different armies since the advent of allies than I did in my previous 25 years with the game.

If I live long enough, they'll probably become armies.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I don't buy new armies all the time because I'm still working on my other ones. That's just common sense, but I started up my retro Ultramarines halfway through my modern Dark Angels, and now I'll probably never finish my DA, so what do I know. With the new IG dex I think I'm just buying a couple Priests and the codex and that's it. Maybe later I'll get Ogryns or something, but I'm generally pretty good as is.

The price policy of GW makes starting a new army an investment of a few hundred dollars.

This makes it hard to get new players, expecially younger ones, into the game.

This is part of the reason I love allies.

But hell yeah, I see the price of even a small army and cry internally.

The tendency in the store we are playing is that the number of new players goes to zero and there is a small number of people restarting the game after a longer break.

Sheer expense puts me off starting a new army, I have ork and tau armies that are around the 1k Mark and I might boost them to 2k but I wouldn't start from scratch.

Yes I stick to having two armies for a system, a small one and a larger one. To keep focus but add variety when I want to switch it up.

I meant no intended offense, I was just explaining that I don't go and buy a new army I want straight away upon release because of the sudden influx of that armies players to the board. After all I doubt people would like to have a few games facing the same army over and over. Like im sure the new guard will be the flavor of the month in store and in gaming circles, a lot of people will have a guard army on the field. So even if I wanted a new guard army, I would hold off a few months till the hype simmered down.

I got pretty bad for a while about having many armies. Got to a point where my wife ended up making a "house rule" lol, for having 3 armies for 40k. She doesn't mind what I buy if the finances allow it, ect, but now it's I either sell or trade an army to get a new one. thinking more into it, it makes me really enjoy my Sisters, Grey Knights, and Imperial Fists.

I have lots of Space Marine models, bikes and terminators, so if there was a new Space Marine army I could consider it, but Dark Angels allow me to field power armour, bikes and terminators with one Codex, which means only having to buy one book and the occasional box of models (Black Knights). That's economy.

I might have to get a new Space Wolves codex because I have Space Wolves as well, but I doubt I'll buy any more models.

I only put off buying more 40K armies because of how increasingly expensive it's getting to do so. I have 8 armies from over the years, but the latest one I built is a Blood Angels terminator army that uses Deathwing rules, because it was a good excuse to use the awesome models from Space Hulk and I already had a Land Raider that I had bought years back but hadn't finished yet, with only a couple of minimal purchases to add to the army.

It's just plain too expensive these days to not focus on just a couple, or even one, army for 40K.

I'm very put off, mostly because all the armies I would want to do right now aren't viable in a gaming scene as competitive as my FLGS.

I could put an army or two together but I just don't see the point when I know I'll get sick of losing every game no matter what I do after a few weeks.
On the other hand I am building up an Infinity army as I type this that I bought on a complete whim because for a full sized force it was only $160 and the models I like the look of where all entirely viable.
If I could run masses of Iron Warrior troops without cultists or dino-bots or mark of nurgle I'd happily stock up on Per Heresy armour and make the list.
As well I'd love to run some Black Templars on foot with the non-storm shield kinds of temies. Or a Raven Guard battle company. Or and one of a half dozen other fluffy lists that simply can't compete with screamstars, flying circuses, multiple riptides or serpent spam.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

a lotta the time when people buy a new army when the codex comes out it's because they've been considering it for awhile and wanted to wait to see what the new codex is like. I'd been wanting to start guard for some time but held off until the next codex dropped for instance

Nope! Having finally reached a point in my life where I can (slowly) build up my wargaming collection, I've been steadily building my armies at an ever-increasing pace! I'm either just closing in on or just past the 10000 point mark. (Maybe I will stop when I can field 40k points worth of 40k.)
