Just wanted to know has anyone bought any miniatures from wargames foundry? Their miniatures look nice although they dont give you any descriptions on how many you get per pack etc, just wanted to know whats the quality of the company is on a whole? They also seem to have a connection to citadel before they became massive

I alway prefer plastics instead of a fully metal army, but they have some good deals on paint.

They've got some lovely models in there, many of which are sculpted by the Perry brothers. The Perry brothers sculpt all of GW's Lord of the Rings models, and were responsible for tons of models in GW's history, namely all the metal Imperial Guard. The only descriptions I can see per pack are probably what's pictured - a German rifle squad has 8 men pictured, so I'd assume that's what you get.

Got some of their Roman range and they are very nice, reasonably priced too.

@Brother SRM - Yes right, and Brian Ansell who was one of the founders of GW.

I have zillions so it's fair to say I like their miniatures but they've had many different designers and some I prefer to others. Overall they have a better grasp of anatomy than the producers of allegedly the best miniatures in the world, although one of their later designers does unfeasibly large hands. As far as I can tell, almost all of their designers have gone on to set up their own companies or sculpt independently, like Mark Copplestone and Steve Saleh, consequently Foundry doesn't produce much new stuff, although their range is pretty huge. My gallery has the merest fraction of my Lead Mountain.

Foundry is an established company with a broad range of decent, but often somewhat dated models. In my experience product quality is good and customer service is perfectly fine. There's nothing to worry about from Foundry. If you like the models, there's nothing about the company in my experience that says you shouldn't make a purchase.

I just checked the site and it show exactly what is in a pack, the amount in the picture is the amount you get, was checking WW1 Germans and clicked view collection and you see exactly what you get.

They've been around for a long time - on par with GW and run by one of the founders of GW. So the collection is huge, some of it is a bit dated but everything of it I've seen has been great. Top quality casting.

They've got a shop in Nottingham you can visit as well, which I'm sure is where they do the casting too.

You'll also get whatever is in the picture.

Nice stuff but old and generally smaller 25mm mostly rather than 28mm.

Depends what you want, but Perry Miniatures themselves have eclipsed Foundry, plus Artizan, Warlord, Crusader, Front Rank Figures, Gripping Beast, Musketeer Miniatures, Brigade Games, Empress Miniatures, to name a few of the massive selection of historical makers offer superior figures.

Though as with any company with such a long history there is alot of variation, generally my observations on Foundry is that the style, proportions and sculpting quality is very similar to GW of the 90's. This is not a bad thing, as some sculptors have made entire careers out of such styled miniatures (Copplestone...) and some of my favorite older lines of miniatures (Grenadier) have a similar style. It's a style that actually has held up pretty well over the years. Crisp, well-sculpted figures that have enough detail to paint up well, but avoid the current over-embellishment found on so many current miniatures lines.

It's not a surprise either as the Ansel family still owns the business, many of it's early lines were Citadel sculpts and there has been many employees shared between the companies over the years.

The real tragedy for Foundry is that they've had a couple of customer service debacles over the year and they have been ridiculously slow to get their lines online. Two years ago they released the "God of Battles" ruleset and at that point they didn't even have their massive fantasy range in their online catalog even though it was featured thoughout the book. Still, their prices are fairly reasonable, they seem to have gotten a handle on the ridiculous shipping rates they used to charge, the website is improving (still lots missing though) and they generally seem to be getting things slowly sorted out.

This has not been the case for what I've seen of their modern and near future stuff. They are definitely 28mm to-the-eye with fairly chunky proportions. Some of the packs have one fig that is taller than the others that I've heard is due to a certain ruleset from the distant past.

They aren't going to be the 30mm+ of many current supposed 28mm figures, but they're definitely not "small 25mm" that you get from companies like Ral Partha.

This is not true. Foundry's products are 28mm figures and are not mostly 25mm. In fact some of their minis are a little larger/bulkier when compared to other 28mm historical lines.

I had the full line of Foundry's Darkest Africa series in my collection for years supplemented by more units direct from the Perry Brothers Sudan war range and others direct from Copplestone castings. Their figures are top notch, have little flash and are well designed. Evenutally I ran out of opponents for playing the British Colonial period, and the scramble for Africa so sold them all off a couple years ago. :( I keep considering buying up their Street Violence line for use as necromunda gangers. Perhaps one of these days when I think I might actually get around to painting them I will do so.

I am also the proud owner of the foundry paint system that comes in the same bottles that you used to get the original citadel paints in. Very happy with the quality of the paint as well.

Sorry it is true of all Perry ranges sculpted for Foundry.

They were done in the 80s when 25mm was the default scale.

Hence why I said 'mostly'. Those done by Saleh and others are larger.

But anything by the Perry twins, done in the hey dayof Foundry is smaller than current 28mm.

Compare their Roman to the Warlord ones. Comoare the AWI to the Perry range. Compare the ECW range to any other modern range... I could go on.

The ranges are still excellent, but they do have a variety of sizes dependant on the year the range ws sculpted.

Photo comparisons show it...

The best plastic from perry/warlord would be 2x cheaper and could even look better.

I like the Foundry paint, nice useful shades , big palette range and dense pigments that can just be thinned and thinned.

Also come in sets of 3 (shade , colour and highlight ) for quick painting.

Figure wise I have a couple of packs from them , the old Citadel stuff for old times sake mostly. I'm happy with them.

Possibly, but there are still many folks who prefer metal miniatures. Also, can be nice when all you have to do is file a few lines and glue to a base instead of assembling each figure individually.

I've got a huge metal WotR/Fantasy army (mostly Essex and some Old Glory) waiting for paint. It's fairly daunting, but the prospect of assembling that many plastic figs would make it even more so.

I've got lots of the Warlord plastic ones too! They are indeed a great deal cheaper, but they scale very well together (being a small 28mm) so it's good to mix a few metal minis in amongst the plastics so the unit as a whole looks less artificial.
