The search function is down so maybe this has been asked before, if so my bad.

I'm working on a Khorne/Nurgle army but honestly I'm tired of getting my giblets handed to me for not having much effective shooting. So right now I'm cooking up some Noise Marines for my homebrew warband, but I want to paint them with a Nurgle scheme because feth Slaanesh.

Fluffwise, has a Noise Marine ever thought, "To hell with cocaine and rock and roll, I'mma join Papa Nurgle's fold of friendship!"? I seriously doubt it, but have there ever been any cases of a cult troop for specific Chaos god committing apostasy for another god?

I don't think there is a recorded occurrence of this happening, but you could still say they did.
Alternatively, maybe they are new weaponry of Nurgle that shoots contagion and such, or Khorne with a skull launcher, that has the same rules as noise marine guns, just to go along with your army.

I'd lean towards goblinking's "counts as" approach myself.

Having said that one of my favourite characterizations of characters gaining the Mark of Nurgle was from an old story about a soldier dying on a battlefield crying out to any god to save him.

So in that context it might be conceivable.

This will probably get more responses in the background forum.

Anyways, I'd say no. Once you get lobotomized for the blood god, and engage in a crusade of endless martial perfection to supply trophies for the skull throne, you're probably not exactly just going to decide one day to follow someone else.

Regular CSM, or even possibly marked CSM perhaps, but once you achieve cult status, I'd doubt it.

Plus, the offended god would probably strike down their deserters on the spot.

Pretty much if you belong to one of the Chaos Cults (Noise Marines, Plague Marines, Berserkers, and Thousand Sons) you're soul belongs to that god. Your entire armament and style of combat is built around your chosen god. Now, there are members of the various cults who join up in mixed warbands under a particularly effective Champion of Chaos. That is when you'll see various units from all of the gods working together. They'll even repaint their armor to match the Black Legion or whoever is in charge. However, any Noise Marines painting themselves up in Nurgle colors is probably going to get his soul sucked out by Slaanesh.

I read a story about kharn leading a band of berzerkers in to a slanesh temple . The slanesh lord was siting on a super throne that gave everyone what he wanted most as long as they switched to slanesh . All berzerkers save Kharn praised slanesh . Kharn killed them , the lord and when the demon throne gave him visions of what he wanted most , kharn destroyed the throne. Because what he wanted most is to kill more.

haha this seems so right. i dont agree with makumba much but... this time its spot on.

if you betray your god as a cult member... dead.. thou shalt get smited. even the cult troops are physically altered as well, eg plague marines, all rot, rubric marines are all dust, and noise marines and beserkers have lobotomies and extra bits put in... they arent changing from who they worship it goes too deep. and the chaos gods are extremely jealous.

marked troops different story, but they arent as devoted as those in the cults

CSM 20,000 Pts
Daemons 4,000 (ish)
WoC over 10,000
6000+ Pts

Anything is possible in the setting.

The background about Daemons says that they compete for the attention of the Champions, and Undivided Champions switch between them. So that´s a yes.

However, I will say no to a random change for a marked warrior, and cult troops count as marked. The mark means spiritual & emotional ownership and full commitment. It should be possible to change allegiance but it should be extremely difficult and rare. I know this sound odd but, as a background player, I would expect you to come with some cool story about how they winded up that way. Saying "To hell with cocaine and rock and roll, I'mma join Papa Nurgle's fold of friendship!" does not make it.

Suggestion:
Spoiler:
Get the Noise Marines trapped by a Nurgle infestation. They are part of a Slaanesh army in the Eye and they are captured by nurgle hordes. They infect them with a million sickness and they are trapped, their bodies festering with all sorts of life forms, using their flesh and souls as food for their larvae.

For the first fifteen thousand years (time goes different in the Warp), they relish the pain... but they eventually get bored. The lack of different sensations turns them introspective. They think about how they are failing the Dark Prince. They grow frustrated and concerned that they will eventually become weaker and meaningless because of this. And they start to feel... fear. Fear of destruction out of pure boredom, fear of becoming nothing else but a bit of flesh for life to thrive. And then, the revelation: death exists.

It is possible for a Noise Marine to stop existing in any meaningful form. Death exists. Through the dissolution of the ego and the loss of references, the unique set of thoughts that is the Noise Marine will be no more. Death exists. And death is to be feared. At this point the Noise Marine is no longer relishing the suffering. Because that suffering is mutilating his future as a unique being. The fear of death fills his soul and mind.

For five thousand years nothing else happens. Fear has won. The Noise Marines have lost all hope and wait for death. But death does not come.

And then, rejection. Defiance. Death is not to be accepted. Life is everything. "I will not be destroyed". Death is nothing: just like the plagues festers on them, they will fester... At this point they find they can move. The plague is no longer stopping them. They move, tearing themselves from their living cells. And they realice they are taking the swarm with them. They have become one with Life. And they welcome it.

They are filled with joy. Death is defeated. Life is eternal. All pleassures are forgotten as meaningless distractions for this fundamental truth. And at the core of the fundamental truth lays a Power, terrifying to behold. A lord to worship. Yet not a petty god, but a loving, caring one. "If only I had known", they think. They should made this revelation known. The Dark Prince is a false god. The Plague Father is the only entity worthy of adoration.

They find their weapons and join the armys of the Lord of Life and Death.

Another thing: you are talking about apostasy. The gods are jealous and will dedicate a lot of resources and attention to the punishment of the apostates. That Noise Marines squad is gonna be top priority target for all Slaanesh followers & Daemons.

It has a funny part where a zerker gets plasmed , cuts of his head to get the plus one skull for khorn and Kharn being a bro kicks the dude head in to some cultists , so that even as a head the zerker kills a few dudes .

Also that Horus gifted ancient kill counter.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.
