KICKSTARTER NOW ACTIVE!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/barbarian-horde

Alright......here is what I have been working on for the new Helsvakt......

I am still undecided about the exact format of the figures. I am leaning more toward single piece bodies with interchangeable heads, shields, and weapons. Though somehow that does not seem as efficient as going totally modular with interchangeable torsos, legs, heads, weapons and shields.

So I am asking again with the pictures for you guys to judge by.....pardon the angles wierdness....

Oh and I am also putting the HElsvakt Archers on the corks this week. The new Morgrimn and Conradt will also be offered as LE resins as well. I am going to limit them to no more than 200 copies and I am going to have an art card / certificate of authenticity made to go with them.

So what do you guys think??

Also bear in mind there will be 6 heads options. 3 open faced and 3 closed face helms.

Very nice!

Personally I'm always looking for modularity in minis, but that's down to me being much more inclined to the converting and building of figures.

Wow... Great looking figures. It looks like you had the torso/legs modularity in mind when you made these as a joint can be hidden by the clothing... I guess if it can be done easily it might give some people more choice for multiples?

Given how dynamic most of them are, I would personally want them the way you made them - I'd fear that there would be a mismatch in the posing/movement of muscles etc if some of the torsos where swapped here.

In short: Your figures are not plain enough for modularity

The less modular, the better for me. I hate putting minis togather.

Will these also be for the game you're working on too?

I have been working on a game for th existing line for a while btu I am not convinced that the mechanics really " fit " the theme of a standard fantasy game. I am trying to work out ( and afford ) to hire on a professional to build the game for the existing line.

I think you may be referring to the " other " project, for which these figures are not intended.

Damn, Tre!

Those are nice. If it's just the heads and hands we can swap, I think I'm good.

Maybe a joint at the waist? I don't know.

This was going to go with those lizards and undead stuf you showed off before, right?

They look neat and finely detailed, as always!

What base size is in the above pic? Can't be 25mm, right?

I hope those bases aren't 25s- those barbarians would be tiny!

I shall hope they're on 40s, since everyone knows barbarians are BIG and TOUGH.

They look really good. I would change only one thing if I could. In the 3 closed face helmets, I would open the lower hole until the chin in two of the models, like in the third model (ala Boba Fett, Chaos Warrior, etc). But I guess that can be done with the final model anyway, easily enough

The sculpts are superb, as always.

Beautiful sculpts as always, but I fear that they are on 25mm round bases, and so will be way too small for me to use for purpose.

I think the arms look weird, with oversized hands. Might just be the photo though. I'd still happily pick some up.

Tre, once more these minis look amazing. I would like to ask if there are going to be armoured versions of HelsVakt like the ones of the first KS

It would be really nice to be able to combine them with these great looking unarmoured ones!

I have seen many times comments about the size of Red Box minis. I would like to say, referring only to the Njorn barbarians I received from the last KS, that these minis are not tiny at all. I took some photos, taking as main comparison mini a Black Arc Corsair, which although it's not a new model, it represents the newer tension of GW for even more heroic scale minis

1. In this first picture the third mini is the previous version of a Black Guard, which could be also characterised as "smaller" than the Black Arc Corsair (compare the heads for example). Compared to the Njorn I wouldn't describe it as "bigger"

2. Here compared with Misericord from the Confrontation line

3. With an older Saruman from GW LotR line

4. Next to a Pilgrim Reincarnate from Magnificent Egos (a very beloved miniature for unknown reasons)

I think that it is not the case that Red Box minis (at least the latest products) are smaller. I wouldn't say so even compared to Warhammer GW products. They may be different style (heroic, non-heroic) but it is definitely not different size. The fact that they are not identical style to GW's doesn't make them small. On the contrary they are much better proportionally and in general as sculptures.

Concluding I would like to say that if the new HelsVakt models are the same size like this Njorn mini in the pictures then they would not be small at all.

Congrats once more Tre!!!

Corgan, that's great! However, the Helsvakt riders I got from KS1 were very small (but not their horses) and these have the same aesthetic.

A size comparison photo or shot with a ruler would be most appreciated, Tre

My worry was the size of the open helmeted figures in relation to their base size. The bases they're on are significantly larger compared to them.

The closed helmet guys at least seem to be on bases that are more appropriately sized.

Hopefully Tre can spill the beans and bring a ruler to dispel any worries.

Thank you VERY much for that very thorough comparison Corgan.

To answer the questions thus far......

the guy with the two handed axe ( haft anyway ) is pictured on a 40 mm base. He is somewhat heroically scaled next to the hordesmen. This is entirely intentional as he is supposed to be a great massive hero. The guy with the Two handed sword is also pictured ona 40 mm round wooden base. he is not quite as heroically proportioned as the axe man but is still slightly bulkier than the hordesmen, but only slightly so. The swordsman is almost exactly the same size as Rollo- the figure used in Corgan's reference. The hordesmen themselves are pictured on 25 mm roudn bases.

The bulk of these figures is thicker than that of the KS1 helsvakt hordesmen. Not incredibly so but enough that it does make a visible difference.

These WERE going to be the modular barbarians for the OTHER project I have been working on but I decided to convert them fro purpose to become the new HelsVakt. basically they would have the same anatomy but with very different ( and much less! ) costuming. The Barbarians for the OTHER project are damned near naked.

You are very welcomed Tre!

This leaves then no doubt, taking into account the photos. And BTW the bases included in the package with the six Njorns were indeed 25 mm

This means that there is not going to be any more armoured HelsVakt like the ones of the first KS?
These models were so great. I would like to see them again.

Whoops! Yes there are plans for half armoured hordesmen and I will be bringing back the fully armoured Gynnade once I convert the originals to have the shields as a single piece with the bodies.

WIP of the new HelRider Hero I am working on for the project. If the fundign permits I will also scultp a foot version of the hero.

I hope I am on the right track with this one. The cork is a 50mm diameter cork if that gives you a good frame of reference for the size.
