Subject: GiraffeX's Adventures in Warmachine - Commander Coleman Stryker vs Warwitch Denegara (fully painted)
Welcome this will be my ongoing adventures in Warmachine starting off from the very beginning, the starter sets.
I have two forces painted so far ready for my very first battle which I will bring to your screens today.
You will notice that I'm playing solo, yep sad but true but it doesn't stop me having any fun
So my first game then taking it easy as I don't know the rules fully so some things I'm missing out for now and some that you will need to say "Hey GiraffeX why are you doing that?". My intention was to play my first game using the quick start rules but I found out quite quickly that they were more trouble than they were worth.
First turn goes to Sorscha who runs her jacks forward
Denegara walks her jacks forward trying to keep out of the range of the Destroyers Bombard.
Sorscha advances her jacks forward and the Bombard is just in range of the Slayer and gets a direct hit hitting both the Slayer and the Deathripper to its left . The Slayers arm is ripped off while the poor Deathripper is nearly crippled by the hit.
Denegara sends the crippled Deathripper in against the destroyer to keep it tied up while the other blocks the way so the Juggernaught cant charge the Slayer who is creeping round to have a word with Sorscha about its missing arm. She also casts Influence on the Destroyer who tries to hit Sorscha but misses, nothing like a bit of back stabbing.
The Deathripper fails to damage the Destroyer those things are well armoured!
In retaliation Sorscha gives a focus to the Juggernaught who then charges the Deathripper in front of it and rips it limb from limb, she then tacticly advances (hides) behind the Destroyer.
At this point its not looking good for Denegara, she advances the Slayer into combat against the Destroyer who manages to fail while charged up to hit with his reamaing arm, yep triple the other attack missed as well and so did the Deathripper in the same combat. On the other side the Defiler tried to shoot the Juggernaught out of fear but couldn't damage it and Denegara tried to cast Venom on it but either missed or failed to damage.
At that point I called it a day as I was having real issues damaging the Khador warjacks and I had other things to do as it was getting late.
So thoughts please, was it my bad luck with Cryx or are they not great against Heavy Warjacks?
The Cryx have some reinforcements in the way of a box of Bane Thralls which need to be painted up, I already have some other models painted for Khador.
A few things I picked up while playing is the use of Arcnodes and I need to look into what corrosion does.
Must say after mainly playing 40k Warmacine couldn't be any more different
Battle 2 Kommander Sorscha vs Warwitch Denegara rematch

So I thought I'd give the girls another go same lists as before
I used a small playing field this time 3x4 to get to the action quicker.
Cryx are going first and everyone runes forward.
in return the Destroyer lets rip with his Bombard and scares a few moles about 50 miles away!
The Juggernaut charges in and just manages to reach the Deathripper, he must have spent to much exertion on the charge as he totally failed to hit the little jack.
Deneghra then casts Parasite on the Juggernaut and also lets rip with her Withering feat taking the Juggernaut's armour down from 20 to 15. The Other jacks at this point all start to give it a bit of a kicking.
The results explained in dice as its easier to see, yeah he took a major kicking.
You will notice that the Defiler isn't in the picture, he's trying to be a sneaky git and is wondering up the right flank.
In Sorscha's turn the Destroyer does what his name entails and rips apart the Defiler, then the Jugger is brought down in the Cryx turn.
Back to Sorscha again and the Jugger is missing so the Destroyer takes a pot shot at the grouped Cryx warjacks on the other side of the pond and nearly cripples the Deathripper's, one had taken a bit of damage in the previous turn
Then we have a bit of moving about from both sides Sorscha has a cunning plan and advances as far as she can into the middle of the situation. Deneghra's forces walk up round the side of the pond the idea is to out manoeuvre the last jack and take Sorscha down.
Now Sorscha does a risky move she charges Denegara hitting her for five damage.
Then in Denegara's turn she drops her feat Icy Gaze (I hope they can be used outside of your turn) freezing all of the Cryx models in place. With them not being able to move the turn passes to Sorscha not before she takes five damage back from Denegara . This is Sorcha's chance for victory she hits back but fails to kill Denegara by two points of health. This will prove to be fatal now Denegara's forces are mobile again the Slayer joins the combat against Sorcha. Denegara takes her down to two health and the Slayer takes off her head victory for Cryx.
Battle 3 Commander Coleman Stryker vs Warwitch Denegara
I had not played with Stryker before so this was going to be an interesting battle and there are some new units on Denegara's side as well.
The mission was the one to hold the two segments of your side of the battlefield and one of your opponents, the name eludes my at present as I don't have the rulebook with me.
Battlefield layout and army positions
Turn 1
Cryx are starting first and everything runs towards the center, it is possible to eek out a win with Cryx if they can take out the Charger with the Bane Thralls.
Stryker and his jacks move forward getting ready to take the charge.
Turn 2
Denegara cats Parasite via the Skarlock Thrall on the Lancer and then sends the Slayer charging into combat, the Slayer manages to half cripple the Lancer with his combo strike.
In retaliation in the Cynar turn the Charger blows apart the Skarlock Thrall. Stryker casts Ironshield on the Ironjack boosting his ARM to 21 and then zaps a Bane Thrall with Arcance Bolt. Stryker also lets off his feat this turn knowing that Denegara has to fully commit in the following turn otherwise the game will be over very quickly. The Ironjack then strolls upto the Slayer warjack and gives him a good pounding ripping off both his arms!
Turn 3
Cryx are in trouble the Ironlad is now at ARM 26 and has to be taken out, Denegara drops her own feat to weaken the Cygnar forces and cats Parasite on the Ironclad reducing it to ARM 21, the Bane Thralls charge in further reducing it's ARM to 19 but its not enough and they bounce off.
In Strykers turn he and the Ironclad start grinding the Bane Thralls into dust
Turn 4
Denegara and the Bane Thralls struggle to do anything to Stryker or the Ironclad. The Ironclad and Stryker continue to remove Bane Thralls from the table. Denegara retreats to fight another day.
If Denegara was fighting another caster I think she would have done really well, Stryker is the exact opposite to her, she may have done better with another Slayer to take out the Lancer in one fell swoop hmm not sure that was a hard fight for Cryx

That's pretty lucky/unlucky (I think both apply since you were both sides this game ) that you crippled the deathripper so badly with the blast damage. At dice-7 or something (from memory) you must have rolled like crazy.
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Yeah I left the Feat off as I hadn't read up on how to use them, will be using the arc nodes for sure next time..

Yeah Khador were rolling some serious numbers in that game

Yeah I came to that conclusion with Cryx as they seem very fast and should be able to out manoeuvre the heavy jacks.
Denny loves arc nodes. The more undisturbed Denny is the happier she will be. Sorscha is powerful enough to chin her in a single turn if she can get within 19 inches (which she will) so when she pulls back she can remain safe.

Sadly, you have to feat as a part of your activation with your caster. So you can't feat on your opponent's turn. Sorry to burst your bubble, at least it didn't change the course of the game too much right?
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

No thats cool I'm trying to learn without knowing anyone who plays so really appreciate mistakes being pointed out. I need to read her feat again when I get home as I must have not understood how to use it correctly or how long it lasts.
