Great Canadian Minis - got order in 3 weeks (by normal mail) just before Christmas last year, all there, nicely packaged too. Email correspondence answered in 24h when I had a question about part of my order. I live in the same province though so YMMV on shipping.

K&J Magnetics - Made the mistake of ordering via UPS and got nail on brokerage fees, which nearly doubled price of my order.

That's an understatement. Friend of mine had to wait several months for his order to arrive.

Basic lesson to learn here is use GCM if you live in Canadia, otherwise order from a company who has joined the 21st Century and understands online shopping.

Just placed some orders online and thought I'd share:

DragonForge: Responded to my premade bike bases question here on Dakka. Exactly what I was looking for and they even knew that my Ork Warbikerz would fit the base! Ordered Friday, received today (Monday!). Awesome stuff, beautifully molded with no bubbles and very little flash. Looks like I'll be ordering from them again!

BitsAndKits.co.uk: Ordered a slew of Ork bitz. Though the website didn't update the delivery status in "My acct", my order was sent the next day and I had it 5 days later. Good prices, nice selection. Will order from them again.

Bitzbox.co.uk: Again, I ordered a slew of bitz. More expensive than bitsandkits but had some stuff they didn't have. I held off ordering because I was assured via email they would have Warbiker bitz by "the end of the week". Friday came and went and no Warbiker parts (so I ordered them from bitzandkits) but I did place an order. Not sent until the following week and, when I received it, the package was missing one very large bit (WFB Giant Hanging Cow). When I asked via email about it, they simply refunded the price of the bit, neither offering to send a replacement or an apology. I won't be ordering from them again.

legoburner wrote:I have an extra query... if you buy from stores outside your own country, do you have to pay import tax, and if so what is the rate for your country (for example, the UK is 17.5% VAT plus extra tax on top of that for certain types of goods).

Hi Legoburner

Myself and a few like minded local gamers have been placing combined orders to US GW mail order since last year, because of how much cheaper GW is in the US.

With the recent website upgrade they are now charging VAT 10% (in Australia it is called GST). But it is still 30 to 35% cheaper than Aust RRP.
Sounds like we may have to look at the warstore now because they don't charge GST (yet).

Anyway, have placed several orders with GW US mail order under $1000. Never had any issues with supply. Delivery has always been complete regardless of item quantity or order complexity. Quickest turnaround was about 4 days from Tennessee warehouse to regional Australia! Bloody amazing!! Would not have been any quicker from GW Australia? Slowest was about 2 1/2 weeks.

It is a shame that their bitz service has been gutted. It was very cool being able to order anything by part number. I am a little concerned that the changes we have seen to the website will somehow translate to a decline in service? "spider senses are tingling". Currently have advanced orders for 5th ed 40K, so will let you know if anything goes wrong....

The War Store - Simply the best kind of people to deal with. If it's in stock it usually ships the same day.

SciFiGenre - Outstanding Web-Site order tracking.

Both are about the same price wise and neither charge "out-of-state" tax like GW does.

DickBlick.com best prices on those Series 7 brushes and other misc. art goodies... never had an issue.

Not really a lot pertaining to 40K, but a good store nonetheless. I've never had a problem with them, then again I usually visit the B&M store

two_heads_talking wrote:shoot I remember when GW used to tell you to keep the incorrect item and they would ship the correct item. I guess too many people were getting "incorrect shipments" and were abusing GW... Well, maybe ...

Often GW were quite happy to send the correct item regardless of what they gave you. Two good examples from a while back:

1. Made a big order, and included in it were two blisters of Spore Mines. Order arrives, but no Spore Mines. In their place? Grey Knight Terminators w/Psycannons. Score! I let them know, and they send me the Spore Mines at no extra cost.
2. Did another order, and part of that was an old Cadian Lascannon team. Instead I got a blister that had the old Cadian Mortar team in there. I'm a completist, so I couldn't stand having only a single Cadian Mortar, so I had to have two more. As it happens, the only reason I didn't order any Cadian Mortar blisters is because they weren't available on the site. Interestingly the Lascannon Team Blister and the Mortar Team Blister share the same product code. Anyway, I E-mail them, explain the incorrect product, but then ask if I can order more Mortars. They say I can't (which is odd as they clearly have them), but say they're going to send me the Lascannon anyway, which arrived a week later, at no additional cost. I did an order later on and bitz ordered the Mortars (you could get them as Bitz it turned out).

This is why I love GWUS Mail Order. Not only am I getting a stupid deal from ordering from them (sometimes 40% off compared to the prices here in Oz, and that's after shipping), but they deliver light lightning (never had an order take more than 2 weeks to get to Oz, and it's usually only 6-7 working days), and they correct mistakes without hesitation. Unlikes, say, Forge World, their heart is in the right place when it comes to customer service, and I've never had any trouble with them.

Of course, with their bitz service gone and their website a slow quagmire of terrible flash windows, I haven't ordered there in quite some time, but come the end of the year when I do my Crusading Marine army I'm sure I'll head back to pick up those Grey Knight Weapon packs... if only I could find somewhere to offload all the swords...

I mentioned these guys briefly on the first page, but as I just got another order from them I'll mention them again:

Exodus Road Hobbies

They're not 40K, but do do SST, Battlefield Evolution and, most important of all, Classic BattleTech. It's a great site with good discounts. I did a fairly large order, around US$600 including shipping, and the owner sent me some free stuff - and actual useful free stuff, as in stuff I would have bought anyway had it been in stock on the website.

So I'm very happy with them. It's my third order with them (a friend of mine did two there, and he was also impressed), so yeah, include them as well on whatever you're doing.

Yes I have bought from places like the Warstore.com with very good service, Ive bought game stuff of eBay from stores who sell on there. Also I have bought supplies form dickblick.com and italianartstore.com for things like brushes.

Im also a seller of products on line from my own website with good customer feedback and developing a nice fan base/following.

Well, i would think bargainbingamer. They dont have A LOT of items, but they offer many miniature items, such as Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, with 40% off.
Fair deal i believe. Its a good site if you want Eldar (good or evil), SM, and Catachans.

I have bought directly from several manufacturers in and out of the US, including Sash & Saber (Old Glory), Copplestone Casting (UK), Old Crow miniatures (UK), Over the Wire Games (UK), Black Tree Design (then Harlequin), and American GW mailorder. I've also ordered from Rattlehead Games, Brookhurst Hobbies, Dungeontrader, and of course, Neal at the Warstore.

Usually what I look for when ordering online/over the phone:
1. Courtesy and Communication: let me know you got the payment, when you're shipping, etc. If I send you an email, reply with reasonable speed. I've never had a problem with any of the aforementioned companies, be they bigger companies like GW, or smaller mom & pop operations like The Warstore (where I got to talk wedding plans with Neal's fiancee once) and Rattlehead.
2. A decent web site with adequate pictures, and lots of ways to contact them (not just email, but a phone number and physical address listed).
3. Good prices and good shipping prices.
4. A good selection. I often use the internet to find unconventional minis (i.e. not FOW, GW, Rackham or PP). Now it's becoming less of an issue, as everyone carries Martian Zouaves and Weird War I Turks (or so it seems), but even so.

So far, I haven't had to pay an import tax, nor a state sales tax, nor have I found myself over a barrel with shipping.

Warstore is my first stop, almost always.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil
