my review

sicarius = 10/10 = its sergeant centurius all over again! we know his identity now! definatly getting two (one is going to be for a friend)

kantor = 5/10 = should have had head, not helmet, not recognizable with a CF captain

new land raider variant = 10/10 = burn heretic, burn! i love it

drop pod = 10/10 = plastic! but it sucks, cause it beats my $7 pvc ones...

scout bikers = 9/10 = wheelies here i come! only detract is the pistols/personal weapons

scout captain = 10/10 = i spy an inquisitorial henchman conversion, also cool

old armor marine = 10/10 = always awsome to have more older style armor, old is new!

land speeder = 5/10 = could have included a new variant, plus i have never put one together before, so the re-cut doesn't affect me.

assualt veterans = 10/10 = the middle one has been nailed down for an EC conversion. plus thier all awsome

rhino commander special character = 5/10 = who's gonna take a special character that will (possibly) die when his ride blows up?

new techmarine/ big A$$ gun = AWSOMESAUCE! big guns are cool, i love tech marines, and i hope it has rending.

rearguard vets = 10/10 = more vets are awsome, getting a (metric) TON of all three sets.

new codex cover = 1/10 = meh, it sucks, could be so much better, having a guy splitting an ork in half down the middle or something, so bleh, common.

holy carp that's a lot of new pics!!!

"He stared up at the heroic figures painted on the roof of the mezzanine. He had no idea what they were supposed to represent. I'm a little sad they are making an entirely new model for Captain Sicarius.

I had spent alot of time painting up the limited edition Sicarius model with the twin lightning claws and now it looks like there will be an entirely new ruleset for him in the sm codex to reflect the new model (powersword and something)

I will have to retire the model into something other now... *sigh*

Hmm... yeah I'm gonna get the Thunderfire. And the Vets. And the Land Raider. And the Drop Pod.

*sigh*

Those are some damn nice looking figs.

How many new vet figures do we need though?

The assault marines will for sure make their way into my lists though.

Wow, I'm actually impressed with everything there. Usually there's some goofy SM models in every new wave that are just ugly to me. Everythign here looks cool, now to see where the Codex goes and what I have to do to chage up my SM.

Not impressed, but not disappointed either. Models in Power armor just don't get me excited. I'm firmly in the Meh camp, take them or leave em.

New plastic drop pods will be sweet though, too bad it will take a new Space Wolves codex before I even think about collecting a marine army.

You know, I've been looking at these, and they don't really grab me as that exciting or inspiring. Perhaps if the Veteran Assault Marines were plastic, I'd be excited. But these look metal, and a lot of the details are sculpted overly broadly.

Still, I wonder what the Conversion Beamer will look like...

It would appear the 5th Edition Codex covers are going to visually focus on a single, iconic member of the army. Thus, the new SM Codex has a single SM standing as the focus point of the cover, whereas the 4th edition cover is much muddier - you can't see anything until you get up close and in good light. Visually, the 5th Edition cover is much more striking and visually clear from across the room.

From a design an composition standpoint, the 5th edition cover is unquestionably superior, in the same way that GW's move to show the actual models on the boxed sets is a genius stroke.

Well I guess its a good thing I haven't built my veteran assault squad for the 8th Company of Ultramarines (blood angels). I'll deffinately be using those assault marines!

For those that haven't figured it out I'd imagine the guy in the rd helmet is the dismounted version of the guy in the rhino. He has the same chest piece and backpack.

I wonder what all those round things are on the far left landspeeder sprue? Could that be the new scout variant upgrade parts?

Well I know what I've got to start saving up for

Not a huge fan of the BFG, but I am going to jump on the Scout sergeant train. Great model. Poised, collected, and no doubt outnumbered behind enemy lines or some such heroic stuff.

This new Sicarius is possibly the only Space Marine model I have ever liked.

What's the deal with the techmarine NOT escorting a giant compensation-for-something gun?

Really?

With all the Jes Goodwin goodness that already exists?

For me, the new Sicarius isn't all that.

It continues the new and rather sad trend of over-decorated Ultramarines....

Kantor and the Land Raider are my personal faves. Well done GW.

I'd've preferred if Sicarius had kept his claws. He was more interesting then.

My thoughts:

1. I agree that the cover sucks balls. Would have been nice to have someone other than the smurfs on the cover.
2. The scout character is awesome!
3. The techmarines gone platform make me warm in my special place.
4. I wanna know what joke the master just heard if it makes a space marine smile.
5. Scout bikes and speeder are "meh" to me.

Thats it for the moment.

I like the new models, but the cover art is very disappointing. All new cool stuff and whamo, look at the bland cover art. There is a alot of empty space on the cover.

Its a thunderfire cannon, originally a two barrel epic scale squat weapon, now apparently confiscated by the SM.
