The model is simply based off of a normal orc boy model.

I had an older bare foot orc model that I mutilated awhile ago, so the feet I thought were suitable for this model. I also wanted to give him a hood and several pouches.

The troll skull is from skull pass. Added a cauldron.

Wasn't sure if I could pull off the hands or not, the one holding the skull came out okay, but in hindsight I should have spread the fingers apart. Will have to do that next time. Its only the the 4th or 5th time I have attempted to sculpt hands or fingers, so I'm a bit new at that.

Well here we go, on to the building of unit #2. Like the previous unit this one will feature the big boys up front and this time I will be modeling them to brutalize skeletons.

Again the goal here is not to repeat a single model. As I was going through the first unit, and even though I'm mixing 40k boyz, the thing I've noticed is just the scarcity of heads and weapons. So to change that up a bit, I'm changing the heads. I'm also going to use a bit more fur.

Here is one of the up front big boys, we don't use those weenie drums other units use. We use the big stuff. I also changed up the gun holster a bit. I think that worked well. Need to put that in the memory bank for when I do my stuff.

That holster worked well, have to remember that. Good job on the arm-sculpt too.

More of the big boys for the VC orc boy unit #2.

Another front line Nob. Borrowed a head from the black orcs. Doesn't show up well in this angle but the plasti-card plate has a sculpted fist on it.

The axe is from the new plastic Minotaurs. There are some really cool weapons in that box, even though the minotaurs themselves are not the best looking model. Shield from the chariot kit.

And the standard bearer. I used the ogre banner, and added the skeletal'd zombie. Again continuing the theme of taking it to the VC. The orc really isn't all that special, but I did convert a little of him also.

This is another of the big bruisers for Orc Boyz unit #2. I like this Nob.

Not sure the mail coif turned out how I envisioned, but its different. Zombie trophy head fits in nicely with the theme. I'm happy with the look on the shield, although chaos beastmen, I think it works out very well.

Your stuff is awesome. The beastmen shield works. You've changed it plenty... Can't wait to see this unit all finished up. The last had a great dynamic as a whole.

Also, any ideas for bosses/warbosses yet? I'd love to see what you could do with them

Wow! I'm surprised I haven't seen this thread yet. Those conversions are fantastic and the level of detail to each model is quite impressive. Things like the kill marks on the axe really accentuate the character in the models. I love the shaman. Where did the backpack on the drummer come from, if you don't mind?

The beastman shield works. I have been looking at those for a while now, all the teeth and horns are perfect for orks. I think the chainmail is boss.

*edit*

Just looked throw the first two pages... and I have happened across this thread before! So, I am ashamed to have fallen behind.

The first unit is so much eye candy! I don't think I can get over it. All of your models, really. I think I'll have to turn up the animosity on the next unit of the squig cult. That unit is just too much, Psycho. I am inspired!

Also, where did you get those GS skillz?! Even the little pouches look amazing.

Yea some ideas on the warbosses, just got to get there.

The backpack on the drummer is from the 40k Nob kit. And the GS skills are years of practice.

Glad you guys like them, I'm making some progress on things.

Hey an orc playing wack-a-mole...

I thought an orc making a nice 2-handed clubbin' action was pretty cool...and it further advances the theme of this unit battling skeletons.

Next up to continue the in-fighting and skeleton VC theme, I decided to mix everything into one scene.

Next time I did this type of thing, I'll fix the feet on the one about to get body slammed. The white stuff on the slammee is just poster putty to hold the arm temporarily in place, some of the poses get a bit difficult to paint.

Also gave the slammee a nice gash on the noggin'. So often it is easier to not do final assembly, just partial then paint some components separately and assemble after paint.

For instance the head on this piece is also just tacked on with poster putty, its a bit hard to get to. Nice poses are great, but if you can't paint them they are not so great.

And the poor VC dude is already been broken in half.

Brilliant posing there Psychosis, the feet on the slamee may not be perfect but it in no way detracts from the scene. Always inspiring to see what you've come up with.

Many thanks guys.

Continuing More of the Orc VC killers, Unit #2, rank and filers. This one with a wee bit of stitching, battle wounded. Just a scratch.

Another beastmen shield with a orcy icon. I'm really liking the beastmen shields for these orcs, probably even better use than with the beastmen themselves.

To again continue the theme of Unit #2 and its disgust with skeletons. If you don't have a hand weapon use a skeleton to batter 'dem ta death. I also do like the addition of the nasal piece on the helmet.

A bit of armor platiing and mail always help too.

I kind of like the conical helmets, but afterwhile they are repetitative. Decided to change these up with a bits of mail. Same with the cleaver weapon, love it but can an only use is so much.

I'm also liking mail all over and decided to do some drapings of skin or cloth depends how you paint it on the shield.

Ah....look what I found, bashin' time. That's an eye patch on him also.

More of the Unit #2 scenery and story. This using the wounded orc from the Empire box set.

The one standing over him is one of my favorite orcs of the unit.

Another of the wounded, adds a bit of storytelling to the unit...

This the pair that will be standing next to him

A couple of plain regular dudes.

That's it....next is the building of the movement tray and assembling the mess.

Thanks man.

The whole theme of this second VC Orc unit was beating on skeletons and also to be just as rowdy in appearance as the first unit was.

I worked in some skeleton pieces into the custom made movement trays. I usually make my trays a little larger to make them in to some eye-candy, convey the theme, or add to the carnage, in this case all of the above.

Avoiding that uniformity. I love the chaos. Portray more of a wild nature.
The other side. Note the orc in the back rank has taken a spear to the chest. The little snot, clubbing the downed skeleton.

Some birds-eye shots.

There you go that is VC Bashin' Orc Unit #2. Hope you enjoyed them. Now I need to get back to Romans.

Orc Shamen #2, this is to go with those VC Orc boys. Why bother with the metal ones when you can have more fun building one out of plastic pieces and a typical rank and file plastic orc boy and your bits box.

The staff as you can tell by the glyph was once an orc boy spear, I added an overlay of GS and did the wood grain sculpting. I warped the ghoul heads into the staff also. Topped it off with a bit from the beastmen or skaven, can't remember which.

As you can see I gave him a pouch full of bones and other trinkets.

I think the tatter of bottom of the robe could have been better, and I maybe should have removed a tooth or two, but I am happy with the conversion.

I've been wanting to work with these new boars since I saw them come out. They are very dynamic in pose, much better than the old ones and much better than the current Warboss Kit. I've heard some complaining about the snouts and stuff, but having seen real wild boars in the wild, I understand the design, they don't look like domestic pigs like the plastic boar boss kit.

This is the boss for the two VC Orc boy units.

Covering the joins of the legs to the blorc body with armor plates and mail. I decided to add a bunch of glyphs as you see on the model's helmet, elbow, sword, and shoulder.

To continue the whole battling of the undead them, I put a broken tombstone on the base. This I will use again with the Wolf Riders.

I do like how the armor plating looks on the boar's head. I'm definitely planning to do some more of that.

Really amazing work can't wait to see more finished units. I love the character designs and thought you put into each model, the units actually look like mobs instead of nicely organised ranks and files. Genius!

Next up for the VC Orc Bashing Boys is a unit of Spider Riders. To continue the theme, I decided to go back to the skeleton/tombstone idea once again. I was dreading these models, to begin with. The riders are a converter's nightmare, one piece, super-tiny highly detailed models. Not what I call fun to work with. The spiders are fine, they are fun.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/Psy...20WIP/048-1.jpg
The VC element on the base and movement tray works.

The goblins are just stuck temporarily to the spiders with poster putty.

My favorite theme element is the skeleton wound up in the web.

What to do with the riders, as you see above, I just decided to enhance the detail with some more feathers, and some fur. The arms essentially are just cylinders so repositioning the spear arms is easy enough, but not necessary.

I think when I revisit the spider riders with my army, I'm going to use the current multi-piece goblins. Don't like the riders, the spiders are great, riders no so much.
