My friends and I made 40k into a drinking game. By the 6th turn tactics are non-existent!

hehe, we usually make it to about turn 3.

Nah but seriously, having a few drinks with your friends and a game is great fun and a way of relaxing for me.

Well, my group is generally older, so when we play at home, we'll usually have some drinks. We're all fine with it and we tend to stop before it endangers our little plastic army men.

At tourneys and the like though, I steer clear of booze. First off, liquor licenses up here are fairly picky and the shop can wind up in a bit of trouble if we're drinking. Secondly, it's a respect for our host angle. There tends to be minors around and even when there aren't minors at the actual tournament, the store still has a business to run. Alcohol consumption is limited to after the game for that reason.

One thing I'm seeing here that I'll echo is that when my role playing group gets together (which is rarely now), there tends to be more drinking involved. My take on it is that it's partially the 'let your imagination flow' angle and partly the comparative lack of kinesthetic activity in an RPG versus a miniatures game.

Im confined to a GW store, so it would be frowned upon.

I love to drink whilst playing ANY game...especially CoD:MW2. a drink or two puts me in that pwn groove...

and as for playing whilst 40k-ing, yes please. It is more relaxing, and allows me to focus...

ever since I quit cigarettes, I need something...and mediation which I try to practice daily, is not conducive to gaming.

in my gaming circle its almost compulsory to drink while gaming (the gaming club meets in a bar.) the most extreme example being that when a few of us went to a near by tournament, got there and found the bar closed we went to the nearest off licence to buy a crate of beer for the duration

Yep, in its most extreme incarnation we do a shot every time you give up a kill point. It actually makes Orks behave more believably.

I don't drink and I generally don't let anyone else drink while gaming. There are times thngs can get heated, and adding alcohol to that mix is never a good plan.

Most people are nearly as good at anything, let alone needing to think about a game, while drinking.

I have not Drank since I was 19 and I am 22 now..It just is expensive and harmful in the long run!

My buddies and I usually have a couple when playing at each other houses, not at the FLGS during tournies though. We don't have a store where I live now so that solved the tourny problem! Use moderation though, one time a guy I work wtih drank half a bottle of jack and bit a necron warrior in half to motivate the rest of them.....didn't work

How about starting the 40k drinking game.....?

Take a shot for every kill point your opponent gets.... Would make for some interesting results.

Haven't really gotten to the point where I might get a drink while playing (just a few games under my belt) but if our group is playing at someone's home then why not, we're all adults. Would never go to my FLGS even if I'd just had a few, I think the minors there don't need to see tipsy grown-ups.

I stopped drinking and smoking a few years ago (*pats self on back*) but if the other guy wants a drink I won't stop him. After a few rum-and-cokes he'll be deep shtriking hish... hish... ah forgot whut ah wuz gunna say... hic!

I don't drink, and for some reason, I don't appreciate it when my opponents drink. Grab a soda or bottled water or something.

Obviously, if I'm at my LFGS or GW store, I won't be drinking, but 90% of the time when me and a buddy set up on the kitchen table, there's alcohol involved. It's not like we get totally wasted, though. It's just fun.

I say don't drink (a lot) unless you're playing 40k orks

i dont drink personally, but if you wanna knock back a few during a game, go ahead.

I do NOT drink while gaming, I prefer to enjoy it sober. I don't especially mind drinking while gaming, I just don't do it often. On the other hand, I don't mind if someone drinks while playing me, so long as they don't hurl on my minis, and they don't mistake me for their ex and start trying throw metal minis at me.

I usually don't but doesn't mean I wouldn't and don't really care if someone else is having a drink so long as they aren't really getting drunk. Mainly because I don't want someone to be getting tipsy if they are right next to the models I have invested countless dollars and hours.

Personally, I like it when everyone is SOBER while playing! I've found that any kind of drink (or what have you ) only hinders the game and only invites stupidity to the table, regardless of what game your playing!

I can occasionnally have a beer while playing, but nothing more than this...

A few beers over a game with my 19+ age friends sounds like a good night to me.

Can't due to age, but I wouldnt if I could. We get a lot of kids through our store on gaming days. Even pardoning that I'd hate to see how terrible I manage my army while tipsy.

Of course! hell it makes the game so much more fun! Who ever realised rolling dice could be so funny!

If we are gamingat someone's house there is always alcohol available but rarely if ever do any of us get so sloppy we cannot play. Obviously at FLGS stores this is out totally.

Having a few drinks while playing I like to do....being drunk and playing rarely ever unless at friends house and we've been drinking and we get the bright idea to play a game at 1 A.M. which we never finish wake up try and play and wonder if the beer can was always blocking LOS.
