The Blade of Belakor

This is a powerful weapon, used by Belakor before his ascension to daemonhood. As a daemon prince he stored the weapon in a secret location, not needing it yet not wanting another to wield it. It was stolen from him by Tzeentchian sorcerers after Belakor was cursed, and thus entered into the Old World. It has a twisted sentience of it's own, thirsting for blood and betraying its wielder at its own whim.

For Warriors of Chaos, Daemons of Chaos, Beastmen.

85 points

This is a magic weapon. Any model hit by this weapon must pass both a strength test and a toughness test for each hit. If either test is failed, the model suffers a S8 hit. If both tests are failed, the model suffers a S10 hit. If both tests are passed, the model suffers a S6 hit.

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Sword of Secrets: 45 Points

"This ancient blade whispers to it's wielder, though the voices drive the wielder insane."

Before the battle begins, a player with a character wielding the Sword of Secrets may ask their opponent to reveal "hidden" units, such as Dark Elf Assassins, Nasty Skulkers, Night Goblin Fanatics, and other units which are deployed secretly.

Additionally, the weapon grants ASF and a 5+ Ward Save to the wielder. However, at the start of the controlling player's turn, roll a D6. On the roll of a 1 or 2, the character suffers from the stupidity special rule.

I don't like 2 attribute tests. First, I don't think those ever happen. Second, it makes it really likely the user fails. Third, that's a gigantic number of tests. If a hero has 5 attacks that's 5 rolls to hit, potentially 10 attribute tests, then back to normal saves. And each save results in a test at different strength, so you can't roll them all at one go. Too much dice and individual rolls. Pointwise it's probably not bad, since anyone who can afford >50pts is likely a Lord with near 6S, but it's just the mechanic that makes it cumbersome.

Sword of Secrets, I'm not sure if you should add wards/armor to weapons. And 1/3rd chance of being stupid on a hero who likely has great LD isn't a big enough penalty to lower the cost of these buffs, which would make the weapon much more expensive. There's an overwhelming likelihood of this weapon being better than the sum of its parts. Even if it was Stupidity 100%, no one is going to take it unless they have super high LD and then it's still cheaper than buying those items separately. The extra roll is extraneous.

The more I was thinking about it, I wasn't fond of stupidity. I was thinking about adding an initiative bonus instead of the 5+ ward as well.

Any suggestions on detriments that would fit nicely?

Always Strike First: let's say 25pts.

Revealing secret stuff: automatically, across the board, at the beginning of the game? I'd say 40pts or something in that range. Within 18", I'd drop it to 25pts.

Getting two abilities on one item is better than one ability each on two, because of slot-limitation, but a point premium for that sort of thing is really tricky, because of magic item allowances anyway. So I'd bump it all by 10, maybe 15pts.

I'd also just say the Sword automatically makes you Stupid. Look at Azag's Crown. It gives him the Stupidity special rule for exactly the same reason as the Sword would; multiple voices in your head gets confusing.
It might not be a big penalty, but I think it'd be enough to drop the sword down to 45pts again.

So: Sword of Secrets (magic weapon) 45pts: grants the user the Always Strikes First and Stupidity special rules. Any unit coming within 18" of the weilder must reveal any hidden models, such as Assassins, Fanatics, or Nasty Skulkers.

I think that's fair. Auto stupid is the way to go. And even if it's unlikely to be much of a detriment, it's still a chance your Lord could stand there drooling. And Stupidity adds ITP.

If you don't want Stupid and the ward, I'm not sure about +I. +I and ASF makes it really likely you get those rerolls and it becomes a more expensive weapon. Especially because you can give it to a slow lord like a Tomb King. Those abilities affect each other directly.

Like if a bow gave +BS and Multishot.

There's an interesting idea. Most armies have a Big Weapon, but since Wood Elves are so shoot-y anyway, it could be a bow...

Bow of the Wild Wood (Wood Elves only, magic weapon) 90pts: longbow. Grants the wielder the Multiple Wounds (D3) and Sniper special rules regarding attacks made with this weapon. Any successful hit with the Bow of the Wild Wood will always wound on a 3+, with no armour saves allowed.

Falx

The falx is a sword-stave, with the blade curved forward and sharpened on the concave edge only. It is a particularly brutal weapon, capable of destroying armor and limbs with ease. It is customarily wielded in long looping arcs, removing limbs and heads, and is capable of splitting shields in half with a single blow. Therefore, it is almost always issued to frontline formation-breaking units.

Any Chaos Warrior or Chosen may take a falx for 3 points each.

This is a melee weapon that is two-handed, gives +1 Strength, and has the armor piercing and extra attack special rules

Both items are for Storm of Magic only

The Staff of Nagash

285 points

This is an incredibly powerful artefact, long thought lost in the aftermath of Nagash's defeat by Sigmar.

Arcane Item. The user gains +4 to cast and dispel. Furthermore, It provides Magic Resistance 4, a 4+ ward save, and contains the Purple Sun spell as a bound spell with power level 12.

Mortis

380 points

Mortis was the blade used by Nagash. It shattered Sigmar's rune-forged armor with the slightest touch.

Magic Weapon. Any model hit by this weapon immediately looses all items of armour, with the exception of bonuses for being mounted or barding on mounts. Any model that suffers an unsaved wound must immediately pass a Toughness test as well as an Initiative test. If either is failed, the model is removed exactly as though it had suffered an unsaved wound from Heroic Killing Blow.

If its user is killed; the Phoenix Blade explodes in a fiery conflagration: center the small template over the model--all models it touches must pass an Initiative Test or take a Str 5 hit (fire damage). I'd like to see a balloon type machine (either for Empire or Dwarfs). Kind of like the gyrocopter with a steam engine, and give it options like dropping bubbling oil. I think outfitting it with a cannon would be clunky, maybe rockets or volley gun barrels. And have it earn steam points like the tank to spend them on moving or using weapons.

WAAAGH!!!

A GUO can get a Balesword that does D6 no flaming for 75 pts. But he only has 4 attacks and he's the only unit that can take it. Oh, and he costs 450 base.

Starfire

Starfire was the last weapon forged using the Hammer of Vaul before Hotek stole it during his defection. It is forged from magic-bound gromril, layered and folded over 10,000 times. Originally commissioned as a two-handed great sword for the Prince of Caledor, it was broken in battle against Malekith's Destroyer, and subsequently re-forged into a longsword. The reforging was flawed, however, and a hairline crack developed unseen. This flaw was exploited by the Dwarf Thane Morgrim, when he duelled it's bearer, Imladrik of Caledor, during the War of the Beard. At the battle's climax, Morgrim's rune axe shattered Starfire and continued through the Prince's neck.

55 points

Magic Weapon. Grants +2 Strength and ignores armour. However, at the end of each combat phase, roll a D6. On a 1, the blade has shattered. Starfire is destroyed and may not be used for the rest of the game. In addition, due to the shock of having his weapon shattered, enemy models automatically hit the bearer in the next combat phase, and may re-roll all failed to wound rolls against him as well.

No roll to hit is necessary: the dense cloud of pellets ensures a through pulping of it's target and any bystanders.

Furthermore If a model wounds the bearer more then one time in a close combat phase it' need to reroll to hit.

That last one's a bit awkward. I'd say something like:

How about:

Such a attack hits automatically and is resolved with the strenght of the model that performed it (including the strength bonus from weapons). Additionaly if a magic missile is cast succesfully against the bearer or the unit that the bearer joins, it might be reflected back at the caster on 4+.

So basically you get maybe 2 units of glade guard who are hitting on 2s at S5 armor piercing when within 15 inches? no. even for 150 points that is way way too good. Make it either +1 BS, +1 S, or armor piercing, not all 3

The Claw of Nagash

When Alcadizzar slew Nagash, his first blow severed the necromancer's right hand. This is the only remaining part of Nagash's original body, the rest having been burnt by the Skaven. It consists of Nagash's warpstone-mutated skeletal hand, encased in the gauntlet of his Black Armor.

Arcane Item. This item casts the 18+ version of Invocation of Nehek as a bound spell with power level 5. In addition, if a miscast is rolled, instead of the item being destroyed, the bearer suffers 1 wound with no saves of any kind allowed, that CANNOT be healed or regained in any way

Avanuir

This magical blade was the first sword forged for and used by Malekith. He used it until his defeat by Caledor, where he left it on the field of battle while he fled. Rumor persists that it is one and the same as Sunfang, the heirloom sword currently in possession of Tyrion.
