Took a while and I got distracted by my Deathwatch marine but I have finally completed my Contemptor Dreadnought. Great kit and a pleasure to work with, I hope the paint job does it justice.

I think the dread looks great. Since you don't use any red on him except around the base, he will stand out from the rest of the guys.

Cheers, the banners were alot of trial and error to get right on the first one. The writing is decals broken down into single letters.

I like the paint job. Do these Tartaros Terminator suits come with those shoulder pads?

Yup they're the stock pads, one blank and the other one cast as it is. Lovely model to paint.

You might have an issue running that terminator sergeant in games. DW terminator sergeants are standard equipped with a power sword and stormbolter, which can be swapped for LC or TH/SS, or upgraded for 5 pts to a chainfist.

BTW, where did you get that axe from? I really like the look of it, and was wondering if it is something you made, or something that you picked up from a different kit/bits site?

I was under the impression that power swords were now replaced with the option for power weapons (axe included) and modelled as such? (I am however inexperienced with the new powerr weapon rules) The axe is from the terminator upgrade pack from forgeworld. £14 for the kit but I needed the hammer/shield for my bellial and the combi weapons will be surfacing on other models.

You are correct. The new rule allows you to model a "Power Weapon" option in the codex as either

Power Sword
Power Axe
Power Maul
Power Lance

In this case, your terminator captain will have a Power Axe (Str +1, AP2).

The problem is the Dark Angel codex is so old, the Army List entry actually tells you that the Sergent has a "Power Sword". I wouldn't sweat it though. Dark Angel should come out by next April. Until then, you just tell you opponent that it is a Sword.

Yes, normally you can use any form of power weapon, but only if it states "power weapon" in the entry. For DW terminator sergeants, it states power sword specifically.

Cheers, I'd read the breakdown in the rulebook and hadnt looked at my old DA codex to see it specified as sword and not weapon, annoyingly it didnt get errata'd to weapon.

Been a while since I checked out your thread, great progress. Everything is really nice.

Outstanding work. Clever, and really great sense of cohesion.

I love all your conversions, and your paint scheme has excellent contrast. When you're ready for freehanding lettering, you might want to try using a black micron pen. More control than a brush, and as long as you go lightly the lines are very thin.

Cheers guys, I'm really enjoying working through my marines.

Currently I have completed a set of 5 crested helmets for use on my tactical marines. When the models are done they'll be up but sadly due to delays it could take a couple of weeks.

Got a chance to head to London today and picked up another couple of squads for my growing army. Anticipating the rumoured contents of the 40K starter set rounding out my Dark Angels esque homebrew chapter I have looked to fielding a plasma centred imperial guard attached force targetted at eliminating highly armoured opponents in precise strikes across the battlefield. Whilst the tank is still in progress I have completed my Company Commander:



The paint scheme is still in its infancy but I feel it meshes quite well with the marines.

Looking super sweet. I love the pose a lot.

Completed and Based Tactical Sergeant. He will be the standard template for my tactical marines (colour scheme and crests) from here on out. To differentiate between the new Black Guard (elite fully fleged tacticals) and the Recon Tactical Marines shown earlier (Half Plate).

Lots of little mods just the way an army should be.

Cheers guys, my painting is nothing fantastic and truth be told half of the painting techniques people reference leave me bemused and unable to work for a while. But since I largely paint for my own satisfaction its a labour of love.

Finally finished after being worked on for about a week:

I saw a change in the title of this thread, so I figured I would revisit it. Looks like you have been really busy. Obviously someone has been spending their hard earned money at the forge-world online store . Everything looks great. I love the different model variation in your army....the IG, the forgeworld stuff, the conversions on your SM.....its all looking awesome. I really like your contemptor though, an excellent paint job!

Cheers, the name of the thread shifts a little bit every time the project evolves, forgeworld did indeed eat a significant chunk of my paypacket for a couple of months just to get the models I wanted. Usually I opt for the cheapest option for running an army but with my marines I felt the need to spend a little extra where neccesary to make it a truly unique army.
