Really quite like my version of "Master of Signals" . What do you think ?

This home brew Vanguard squad seems to have been going on forever ( before the new plastics one were released by a LOOOOONNNNGG way ) but I manged to get a fair bit done tonight and had fun in the process.

Top marks in my book.

I really like these , they're a hotch potch of parts from the bits box , new resin from Anvil Industries , and real evil stuff left over from when my youngest lad was 3 or 4 and covered everything in orange paint .....

So , I've sat and looked at things for far too long , I really havn't been interested lately. The Vanguard squad is slaying me , REALLY CAN'T GET INTERESTED.
But started some new resins bits tonight and I'm hoping they'll get me started again.....

Had enough of infantry for a bit and wanted to dirty up some tanks a bit , enter the LandRaider I had sitting around in a coat od gloss varnish , ready for some oil paint grimeing up !

Lighting has made it look a bit more orange than it really is , I hope ....

Love your work mate! I'm a bit late to the party, but the master of signals is amazing. Clever use of bitz and excellent painting, as usual.

It's a shame that 40mm bases are not game legal for powered armoured models cause they give a lot of character those Vanguards.

Keep it up!

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

Thanks mate.

Fortymilsmortymil. I'm not too concerned about game legal , more about how they look and more importantly on the bigger models , how many times my son and his friends knock them over , bigger bases stop the paint being chipped !!!!

After a couple of good games of the first edition "Space Hulk" with my boy today I decided we should have a model for the C.A.T.

Et voila , C.A.T rises from the bits box !

Big H... You are the best Father ever.

And great work on the models too! The dot camo looks really sharp, and the tanks are coming along nicely.

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.

Nice to see them coming along. I love the Master of Signals. Assault marines look like they have ambushed some Thousand Sons.

C.A.T. built from EPIC Leman Russ chassis? I really wish that they would re-release EPIC.

Hey buddy! great looking work! The assault troops look great!

Just a quick question.... (not sure whether to PM or put it in this section) Could you advise me on where (if you use it) you get the silicone for creating your moulds to make your resin parts?

Really fancy giving it a go.... just not sure what i am looking for when it comes to silicone etc......

Thanks mate

Teehee. Always the case with bitz huh? either that or the one piece that you moved a hundred times, but can't find it when needed.

HaHa , ain't that the truth. OR my little fella goes and uses parts I had been saving to make a Dwarf / Space Marine magician with Laser Hammer !!! 10 year olds will do that !

I really had to get all OCD and put all my bits in hobby organisers and little drawer things from IKEA . Labelled , organised, easy. ( also weird) but happy !! :-)

Haha, I don't have that problem, my ten year likes to play, but she doesn't do any modelling of her own yet. My two year old likes to get into my paint brushes and such. Always fun when you're detailing to have a little munchkin trying to steal brushes and paints.

Nice on the bins, I have zip lock bags, and then into bins, but it tends to spread across the room as projects continue until CHAOS!

Lol, yes very spooky. I can't tell you how many times I've gone back into my office to make sure blades and glue were back up on the top shelf.

Yep , drives you crazy doesn't it ? I've got a big bottle of SuperGlue dissolver at the hobby table and luckily the boy is quite good with a hobby knife tho he does press on too much and snaps blades all the time !

What is that vehicle and where did you get it? It looks like a cross between a Landraider and a Rhino which I fully approve of. If you made it yourself I would really like to discuss acquiring one for myself, if not please direct me to where I can buy one.

These are looking great!
Loving the use of old models like the terminator librarian, I have that too and I'm trying to find a use for it.
The camo is looking brilliant too and it works especially well on the tanks!

Thanks mate , I do like to resurrect stuff that would normally be classed as "scrap" !
I do prefer tanks/vehicles. Troops are just that bit too small for my patience and eyesight levels !

Had a happy few hours this afternoon on these whilst waiting for the gloss varnish to dry on my landraider so i can pin wash it .
I like to wait 24 hrs or so for the varnish to cure to avoid any melted varnish mishaps

Started work on the second Land Raider's grime and pin washing , only gave the varnish 24 hrs to cure but it seems ok .

Much prefer oils for weathering , pin washes , tinting etc , its so easy to move the paint around before it dries.

Right , during an evening of convivial red wine and a Dwarf / Goblin skirmishing in a box I decided I would matt varnish my latest Land Raider.

Almost immediately after the varnish touched, the paint bubbled like i'd hit it with too much thinners , it didn't frost , just looks like paint stripper got spilled on it. Its not uniform , just in patches.

I have used the exact same paints , Tamiya sealed with Humbrol gloss varnish , Abteiltung oils and (shock horror) GW satin / matt varnish on top many times before with really pleasing results.

Mostly I have let the gloss varnish and oil wash layer cure for 48 hrs or more , this time it was only 24hrs. Could this be it ?

Any one know what went wrong this time ?

The pics show where it is most prominent , tho it also occurs in places harder to see.

If I could replicate it it might just work for a Nurgle paint job.....

That is quite strange indeed. I don't use oil paints myself so I won't be of much helps I'm afraid...
Could it be humidity level or temperature in your area? Like you said though, this could be a happy accident to use for future projects

You check this blog out :http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com

Those guys are awesome artists and they're quite friendly too. Maybe they'll be able to help you.
