Those scout bike sprues are packed full of extras. I like what you've done with them.

You could always magnetize the sarge. What I did for my bike captain was to glue one hand on the handlebars on the bike, and magnetize the other one at the shoulder. It seems the best options are going to be:

Nothing (so BP, chainsword, pointing arm, etc)
Powerfist
Combi-melta

While you could do a wrist swap for the BP/combi, the fist needs a shoulder mount.

Thanks everyone.

Finished up the basing on the Scout Bikes, did the metallic edging on the bike, and hit them with glosscoate:

Now they join the stack of models waiting on decals and then weathering.

Edit:

And I just now realized that I am an idiot and that I glued the guy actually holding his shotgun onto the bike with the shotgun still in the holster .

Oh well, he's so badass that he dual-wields shotguns...

Scout Bike update: Was able to pop the drivers loose and switch them up, crisis fixed!

Working on Sniper Scouts right now, especially the camo on the cloaks. I suck at painting camo, the only pattern I have down is the pattern I have used on my Flames of War tanks:

So I figured I would see how it looks on the cloak after changing up the colors a little bit:

I think it looks decent, and should look even better after hitting it with a wash. The dark green is a bit subdued, but I think it works okay.

You can also see at the top of the picture that I started to actually write down what color I use for what. I usually leave my colors out while I am working on something, but we had company yesterday and I had to put them away. Then I had to figure out which of the colors in my case of paints was used for what.

Once these guys are done I will start on a squad of Sternguard Veterans. I picked up the box today to use for bits, but I probably will not use the bodies for them. I think they look nice, but they are a bit too much for a whole squad. My plan is to use the Raven Guard bolters for the Sternguard squad, a healthy mix of Forgeworld Armor (as well as some of the Vanguard Veteran armor and maybe some of the torsos from the Sternguard box), fancy shoulder pads, and fancy heads.

I think I will use the bodies from the box as Sergeants though.

Nice camo. Might just be the picture, but the brown is hard to see. But then it's camo, it's suppposed to blend.

Just remember when using real camo not to forget which cover you parked the scouts in. Mine have missed a few rounds of shooting due to unobtusiveness. One thing I have to say for fielding bright blue marines, you don't forget to move/shoot them. Sneaky little gits get overlooked from time to time...

Came back from an unscheduled trip to Germany this week, and also finally received the decals I ordered a few weeks ago.

So here are a few finished models:

The Chaplain:

He needs some weights on his base, the metal arm makes him tip over quite often.

Pretador:

(I finally gave up on the symbol on the front plate...)

And the Scout Bikes:

(I need to make two more of those)

Also finished up the Librarian, but I can't find his backpack...

New baby takes up a lot of time, but I'm actually still slowly working on stuff.

Putting together a squad of Terminators, and also started working on a Stormraven:

Got the main body done, only bummer is that I got seal happy and forgot to cover up the canopy before hitting it with dullcoate. I wonder if the "frosting fix" would also work on the canopy...

Tried to go minimal with the markings...well minimal if you ignore the giant chapter symbol on the wings

I tried to cover all viewpoints, big symbol on top, small on front, beneath the wings, and the side view will be covered by the Raven Guard doors.

Now I just need to put together the top turret and work on the base.

Is the ring on top the same size as the Razorback hatch? I was thinking about just doing the Forgeworld Razorback Lascannon kit instead (which would also make it easy to switch out weapons by just switching out the tops):

And just to show the goal for this month, the finished 750 point Raven Guard force:

I'm participating in an Escalation League at my local GW store, so this is what I hope to finish this coming week so that I can get some games in. I've had some reservations about bringing the Stormraven at 750 points, but I've had this model for almost 6 months and really wanted to get it painted so this was a good excuse. There will also be other guys bringing their fliers, so I'm not the only one. There are no points for winning games so as a whole there shouldn't be too much WAAC stuff going on and the rest of my force isn't exactly all that intimidating.

Fluff wise the 3rd Company is doing the regular Raven Guard thing (planet of IG being attacked by CSM, nobody helping them, Raven Guard saving them, blah blah blah). Intel has revealed that the CSM are after a rare Techo-artifact (who knows, could be STC-something) so the Master of the Forge organized a strike team to search for it and secure it if able.

Master of the Forge
2 Servitors (w/ Plasma Cannons)
5 Shotgun scouts in a Storm
10 Sniper Scouts
5 Scout Bikers
Stormraven to extract the MotF and the artifact and provide backup when sneaking around is no longer effective.

I think painting the canopy with brush-on gloss would make it more transparent, although not fully clear.

The raven looks quite good, and the escalation league sounds fun

Talked to our resident "frosting" expert MajorTom to see if he thinks the frosting fix might work on this.

Got busy today, but when I prime the other models tomorrow (and got the garage heated up) I will hit the front of the Stormraven with clearcoate to see if it will free up the canopy and then just cover it up before hitting it with dullcoate again.

I need to see if I even got a can of clearcoate laying around somewhere, I've been using Future as my gloss coat since I got the airbrush...

Like the looks of them, small point about the Storm Raven. The chapter emblem on top of the wings looks a little out of sorts with the Raven flying feet first, if that makes sense. Something to consider, keep up the good work!

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

I've spend some time trying to figure out which way looks best and was torn between the two options.

In the end I went feet first because of the imperial eagle at the front. The eagle is visible from the front, so the feet are naturally pointing "down" when viewed that way. It's the same way with the small Raven on the Land Speeder Storm. The surfaces are angled down, so the feet are pointing down.

But both of those symbols are also visible when looking at the model from the top, so the raven at the front of the Storm is flying feet first and the imperial eagle at the front of the Stormraven is flying feet first. So I ended up going the same direction with the Raven.

It does feel a bit "off" facing that direction, but I felt like having the eagle and the raven face opposite directions would look weird as well. Kind of a no-win situation

Working on a new Chaplain to lead the jump units to make full use of the Raven Guard chapter traits:

Base model is the Lord Executioner, axe head replaced with staff from Terminator Librarian, Anvil Insudtries skull helmet.

Finished the Stormraven, and was able to save the canopy by using MajorTom's trusty "spray-sealant-disaster-recovery" program.

Long time without updates, but I'm starting a squad of dreads to be part of a siege assault squadron for the Raven Guard:

Gotta do some edge highlighting, weathering, and decals as well as finishing the base. Hoping to have him finished by the end of the week.

Good work! I love Raven Guard and have an army myself.

Black is a very hard colour to get right (Just as hard as White and Yellow IMO). To stop it being quite so matte I gave mine a VERY light drybrush of Etherium Blue (I believe that's right) over the top, and a slightly heavier one along the edges.

I prefer the light blue edges to the grey you've used, but that's just my favour. Give it a try!

I've been using a silver weathering powder and a pencil to make the grey on vehicles. I like the look of the weathered edge more than a soft highlight.

On my models I end up doing a grey highlight with a brush and then add a blue glaze to tone it down and give it some depth, which is probably similar to what you get with the blue highlight.

My progress for today: Ordered some Ghost Tints which came in the mail today!

Tried to get a decent transition between the colors to simulate a nice hot inferno cannon.

Tried to see if I could get a similar effect on the flamer shooting out from inside the drill, it didn't turn out like I hoped but it's okay.

I did learn that I gotta turn my regulator down as far as it will go to do weathering with the ghost tints.

Now I'm working on the writing on the front, the silver edging, and then hit it with future to prepare it for weathering powders and decals.

Final progress shot, just in case the next step ruins the model for good

The final plan is to do a "white wash" on the model to simulate frost from fighting in the winter time. I've looked over quite a few tutorials, and it should look good...but I'm still worried about it

(Also need to paint over the banner and redo the name...)

So I finished the "fighting on a planet covered in snow and freezing over" dread:

I don't know if it was the hair spray or if it was the matte varnish I airbrushed on top of it, but something caused the white wash to crackle...which I think helps with the whole "frozen surface" look.

Overall I think I'm happy with it and I can see this becoming the look for the rest of the army. It gives the "all black" of the Raven Guard some interesting appeal.

I know you said it was purposeful, but my first and only thought was, "Oh feth, someone matte varnished when it was too cold..."
