Hey people, quick question can a forward observation officer be used as a spotter for a fielded howitzer?

My guess is no because it doesn't specifically say so but I thought I would ask

Mortars are useful as heck. Their purpose's to get you rid of enemy gun teams such as mg's or snipers, who can'rt afford to move if they want to do something worth their points. Just give the mortar a spotter who'll look after the whole battlefield, hide the mortar away from the battlefield and bomb the enemy up from range and cover.

According to how cheap mortars are, and how devastating they can be for an army losing its support, I'd definitly say they're amongst the worthiest units in the game: don't forget tat if neither the mortar nor its target have moved, you ain +1 to your roll. After a few shots, it gets you down to like 3/4+!

Hope it helped you!

I never run my Soviets without mortars, always run a medium and a heavy at Regular status.

They keep static teams (Machine guns, Artillery etc) on the move and unable to fire whenever they move so even if you don't hit anything the opponent is constantly aware of the threat that comes from it.

Maybe they won't move them until you have to get 4+, but it's constantly looming over them that if it hits it'll be devastating!

Plus, I've had amazing rolls with my mortars. Destroyed a Tiger (I think?) with one. Superficial damage, set on fire and he failed the morale test. Not bad for a 50 point weapon

I'd keep them in the list mate, definitely.

Alright, we'll call it a draw
