One of the best selling points about getting into the game is that, by and large, the starter packs are very solid for getting in for a reasonable price. The Latigo group has a particularly high point value by price, since they're all character pieces.

Well, and at least in 1.5, Perdita and crew were VERY beginner friendly. They were very straight-forward and very powerful. Other than a Fransisco sling-shot, they had no "tricks" per se, to learn.

I was always a fan of that crew, but ye Gods are the new models hit or miss. They range from cool to offensive in the span of one box.

Viktorias and Pandora are finally out, a week and a half late. Now to see if MM will actually manage to get my preorder out before the weekend. (What's the point of preordering if the store is slower to fill pre-orders than new orders?)

On the topic of Latigos, they're probably the only case where I prefer the original metals. New Perdita looks dumpy, and Nino looks far better with a sniper rifle than a gatling gun.

I've never understood Nino's weapon, the old one didn't look much like a rifle, either.

I feel like it's a mixed bag:
Perdita looks worse (love the original)
The nephilim looks nearly the same, w/e
Francisco looks worse, despite not having a dumb gun any more. Wish they'd gone with the book art.
Santiago looks better (but I'll be rolling w/ santana, so w/e)
I like nino's pose and bandanna, think both have weird guns
Papa looks great, feel he's the most improved (looks dangerous, rather than some sort of silly jumping guy)

I'm pretty much avoiding the actual Ortega models:
-Alternate plastic Perdita
-Santana
-Miss Terious minus casket as Francisco

Don't really feel a need for Nino or Papa Loco, so I've got an awesome core to a crew already to use with other guild stuff.

I can't speak for 2.0, but in 1.5 Nino is a cornerstone of my Ortega crews.

Packs a punch.

He was ridiculous in 1.5. He's balanced now.

Niño is still target número uno whenever I bring him. I don't think he's made it past the second turn yet, my regular opponent always goes out of his way to kill him. Niño's trigger that forces an opponent to lose cards or the model dies is even better in 2.0 (and not just because it deals damage first), card hand management is so vital and he screws with that very well.

Eh, he's powerful, but compared to a lot of stuff in other factions he's not exactly unstoppable.

Also, heavily reliant on terrain build and density.

Nice perches in the deployment zones and long drawn LOS? Deadly.

Winding labyrinth? Not nearly as dangerous.

My opponents generally find Austringers much more obnoxious, despite not hitting nearly as hard or accurately.

100% agreement. Playing my Ortegas last night reminded me just how much I appreciate those models... simple as they are.

Meanwhile, my wife had a Seamus vs. Seamus mirror match, and neat 3d-renders aside, her Seamus box painted well, looked massively superior to the new Red Chapel box painted adequetly. I definitely don't think Seamus' crew got a particularly nice new box.

Pandora on the other-hand.... :-p

Sadly, Nino still had a gatling gun... It just wasn't as big.

Like the Lucius box, but I don't like this one at all. Kirai doesn't look locked in despair and lost love doesn't look right at all.

I think I'd agree... I like the metal Kirai better than this version.

Yup, definitely going to pick up metal kirai. Hopefully the Dreamer and Collette plastics follow a similar trend so I don't regret buying them in metal.

Is it bad that I like the art for the set pieces rather than the characters? I think Kirai doesn't look like kirai, Lost Love looks like a stunt double from the Temple of Doom, and Lucius looks a little too neverborn-y for me (I realize his fluff changed, but still)...

The quality of the art is still well done, but just not pulling me in :-\

On Kirai I'll agree (I don't know much about Lucius); I have the metal kit, and her model in that is in a very, very different tonal nature then this. Isn't Kirai the Avatar of Despair or something like that? Here she is more... uh, I'm not sure what that pose is, exactly, running dash, I guess?

It's not that the art/new idea is bad (in fact I think it's very good), it's just that I don't really see the connection to the older models. Did she get changed in the M2 shift? That seems... odd.

Kirai is the Avatar of Vengeance IIRC. There's been no mkII fluff I remember on her.

If I remember her fluff correctly she was a gardener (hence the shears), but she seems way more pin-uppy than before and that pic doesn't capture the somber tone that the original mini had.

The flavor-shift could be justified.

Sonnia Criid used to have a confident face and now has an iron mask and a somber tone. Maybe Kirai got over the whole vengeance thing and decided to join Collette's showgirls.

I don't like any of the kirai stuff. The seishin look like big scary monsters instead of wispy insubstantial spirits.

Hmm, as with the ortega's Kirai is a bit of a mixed bag, I kind of like the sheishin but the size not so much. Kirai itself is well, just, no. Like the others I think I'llt ry to hunt down the old metal box because that just doesn't look good at all imo.

Are those seishin things classified as "Beasts" (and thus available to Marcus)?

They look really neat.
