A pulled shoulder and real life (I'm buying a house ) have ruined my hobby time.
All I've managed to do since the last update is;(sorry for the bad pics)
Fail at making and applying a serial number stencil to the gunship
I'll have to try again once I'm less angry at paper, paint and craft knifes
Blue tacked a marine together
(I have since undercoated the plasma gun and arms)
And starting fences on my comm centre terrain
Task for this weekend is to sort out the hobby corner
It's got too messy and the more messy it is the less I want to do hobby stuff.
Also very happy that my op:icestorm has arrived.
Not so happy that in the 2 and a bit months Since I put this order in, Wayland are still waiting on some Ork heads to send me :(

From the great sort out
Albion rifles imperial guard
Basically I wanted British ww2 imperial guard, quite low tech (the guys with no guns are waiting for a good 28mm scale bren gun)
This is Commander Shepard from when I started a Cadian force years ago.
(And I was playing mass effect obviously)
He needs a bit of a repainting to fit with the rest.
This is a conversion for a primaries psyker, I need to add some green stuff wires to the back of his head before I paint him.
Here's a close up of the infantry squad blobs
New heads, shoulder pads shaved down aside from the SRGs left pad. Grenade launchers made to look like those single shot ones you get in COD. Torsos green stuffed to remove the pecs and the power cell of the rifles moved from underneath to the side.
My Catachan devil vets (I've had these guys I one shape or another since the black crusade global campaign, the fluff was that the commander rescued them from that planet that abbadon blew up and they just stuck around with him and his Cadians.)
Catachan, Cadian, parts mostly with some bits from chaos marauders and Necromunda.
As I wanted them to be slightly lower tech than normal, sentinels didn't seem right so I gave them a scout jeep.
There's another jeep ready to be kit bashed in my pile too.
And of course you can't have guard without tanks
I stopped painting them when I couldn't get the soft edges on the camo makings . I'm going to have another go with my sponges when I get a chance. Otherwise they will have to wait till I get an airbrush.
I've got another leman Russ and a baneblade still on sprue too.
I'm going to get pictures of my ultramarines and deadzone stuff later
Thanks for looking Automatically Appended Next Post: Paradigm wrote:Good to see they got your copy of Icestorm to you, I too got a bit annoyed with the waiting but it is damn well worth it as a set. Looking forward to see what you do with it.
Ta Para
Looking at how small some of the detail is I feel I might ruin these, but we only get better by going out of our comfort zones

Ultramarines so far
I've got to buy, make and add a multi Melta for the second hatch on the land raider. Both it and the rhino need some highlights and weathering.
Terminators
I might rip off the shoulder pads and replace them with forgeworld ones. I'm tempted to add some purity seals to em as well (it's this constant tinkering that stops me from varnishing my minis)
And the in progress tactical squad I hope to have the plasma gunner done this week. I want him to look like a tech marine in training so some tech stuff on the belt, a cogboy shoulder pad from the rhino kit and some his backpack to look like its carrying a high power vox.
There's the scout too but I didn't take a close up. Still working through these the most difficult part was finding different heads because I don't like the scout ones.
Theres an entire box full of marine bits, a drop pod, two bikes and a new tac squad kit to make in the pile too.
I think because I'm no playing 40k anymore some of the motivation has gone from getting these projects finished and I've prioritised Deadzone because I'm actually playing that.

Nice looking Ultramarine detachment there! Very sharp blues and clean whites!
I doubt you'll have too much trouble with the Icestorm minis, they are packed with detail but that really helps, actually! Just block in the colours and hit them with a wash and Bob's your Uncle!
I can sympathise with the 'not getting to play much' bit, I haven't had a game outside of pressganged family members since about March!

Ha pressganged family members tend to be poor adversarys too, or far too favoured by the dice gods.
Ta for the kind words as always dude. I was going to go for a bright clour scheme for the infinity mins but after seeing yours I'm thinking of changing my mind.
I was hoping to get some small flag decals so I could add them to the fusiliers shoulders(xcom style) but alas I can't find any small enough. Some are easily done but the UK and Welsh flags are way outside my skill at the size I want them.

Scaffold Update
So my scaffold has been sitting on my shelf for a while and it's a really quick win to get it done and build some hobby momentum.
But I couldn't decide if I should do the platforms as wood planks or try to sci fi it up a bit. And planks won't add much weight which will stabilise the piece.
After a lot of Umming And Ahhing I decided to just breakout the coffee stirrers and go for the wood planks, even in the future your going to go as cheap and hasslefree as possible.
Still to do on it
add a ladder in the gap, paint the new plasticard I added, put a wash on the planks(I want to keep them light n piney) and I might try to model a turned over paint bucket plus spilt pain to add a bit of cool factor too it.
Thanks for looking

A tiny bit of progress on the comm centre and scaffold.
Comm Centre
I've painted and added some extra details to the floor of the comm centre.
Time to get the opps room done, I need to get some office chairs and server stacks from ainstys and some screens from antenocitis.
Tomorrow I'm going to get the vents for the generator and warning signs for the fences done.
Scaffold
Although it doesn't look like much I have painted the new poles on the scaffold and but a light wash on the planks.
I'm going to buy some leaders and try out my paint bucket idea tomorrow. Almost done.
I've also tried out using sponges to get a disbursement effect on my challenger tank camo.
Not happy with the outcome so I definitely need to get an airbrush. I'm going to watch the series on beasts of war when it comes on but do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for looking
P.s. Anyone know of a manufacturer making 28mm fire extinguisher?

Started putting my operation: icestorm minis together (after messing up my card cutting for the generator vents )
Here's a size comparison of the fussiliers and Nomad grunts(not even going to try spelling what their called yet ) with guardsman Bob.
Their bigger than Infinity minis used to be maybe this is a consequence of using digital sculpts?
But they are glorious and still within my scale tolerances,
After a lot of time messing around with restic the ease at cleaning metal was a breath of fresh air. Even if I did come very close to chopping off the Nomad girls pointing fingers.
Thanks for looking and apologies for the poor photos, I've only got the iPad for internet an pics at the moment any tips on taking better pic with my current set up?

Hello to anyone stopping by
Can anyone suggest a good Hasslefree process of taking pics with an I-pad. Not getting good pics is starting to effect my calm.
I currently don't have a laptop or a good camera, is anyone else in the same position as me and what works for you?
Thanks for any help

I don't have a camera or anything either. I just use my phone (see my blog! ). Good lighting helps a lot. I think taking pics under a white light works out better. I just hold my mini up to the light at an angle where its lit up as clearly as possible. Sometimes it comes out a bit lighter then it really is but there are apps to fix that or the auto balancing thing the dakka gallery uses is good too.
Or you could build a simple lightbox. They're easy to make and work well and probably more practical lol. There's lots of tutorials online.

Need to buy a red lense from ak interactive and do the door and the ground flood will be complete.
Objective for today is to finish off my ultramarine combat squad/kill team.

I am now accepting commissions for any hobby project! I've been in the hobby since '92. Specializing in traditional brush methods, creating a gritty dark aesthetic. From single character models to entire armies. From individual terrain pieces to entire table tops. From tabletop level to masterclass level painting. From purchasing and assembly to leveling up your assembled armies paint job. If it has to do with the hobby I can do it! Hit me up and let's chat about your project! |

I hate painting eyes
After 2 hours of ruining good models I'm only at this stage.
The 1 black line on a white orb normaly works for me but today I might as well have used crayons
And now I can't even get a decent sized pic I give up for tonight

Ta Camkierhi
Infinity Operation: Icestorm painting has started
Ive been very hesitant with painting these infinity minis, for fear of ruining the cool models and I didn't have a definite paint scheme in mind
Infinity PanO fussiliers painting progress
I love the fusiliers, so much so i've already picked up the booster box and I'm trying to get hold of 2or3 more of the combi rifle guys(not miss PanO2014, one is enough of her) to try and convert.
Most base colours and eyes done
Infinity Nomad Alguaciles painting progress
Most base colours and eyes done. In hindsight I should have just primed the black at the start.
Resin supply drop
Ainstys castings http://www.ainsty-castings.co.uk
Not amazing casts a few bubbles but nothing horrendous
I'm now going to be ready to start to finish off the interior of the comm centre the only question is do I wait for antenocitis kickstarter to pick up the monitors I need for the ops room
And yes that's a Tardis how could I resist.
Zinge industries http://zinge.co.uk
Really awesome casts no bubbles from what I can see, lots of great little details including keypads for my comm centre doors.
And finally ...............
Tall scale marines
Some better pics first
And the money shots
I've followed the classic "true scale" method as done awesomely by vet sergeant here
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/437416.page
Where I've gone differently to the srg is I've made the torso thicker by 1mm and added an extra 1-1.5mm to the torso length as below.
I wish I could find the original tutorial still so I could chuck a link up. A lot of hard work but well worth it to settle my OCD.
And a massive pile of Space Marine plastic to tall up when I have the patience.
Thanks for looking

Hooray, a convert to red-bereted Fusiliers! Coming along nicely, it has to be said!
TS Marines do look cool, I really have to try that myself one day, although probably with Chaos or Deathwatch.
Nice supply drop as well, that stuff is quite the varied bunch and a TARDIS to top it all off! Dr Who Deadzone mod anyone? (Daleks would, of course, be completely OP )

I want to get a TS deathwatch squad done at some point (along with chaos, space wolves and grey knights or go mad first), they just take so long to do I normaly get distracted by less labor intensive hobby stuff.
A Dr who deadzone mod could be cool, I think he'd fit more in with Mars attacks tho . I just like the idea of putting the TARDIS in ransom places on a board as an Easter egg like the Nuka cola tiles for Deadzone.
And I recon my bad ass Enforcer Sniper could still one shot a Dalek
