I believe I read that SMV is involved in sculpting and art direction? I don't think it's been officially confirmed what roles are, though.

As it says on the FB page, Dust Studios is in charge of the tooling, mold-making, and production of the figures. Considering the success they've had with soft-plastic miniatures and the recent advances in restic technology, I have high hopes.

All I've heard is that people are getting more used to its limitations so are making smarter choices about the medium.

(edit: typo)

Like not calling it 'restic'?

It's a stupid name. Just use the actual name of whatever plastic you're using. Don't make up names that don't actually mean anything. All the confusion over the differences between 'resin' and 'plastic' (when really, resin is just a type of plastic, and what we refer to as 'plastic' is generally polystyrene) is bad enough without deliberately making it worse.

you kickstarted sedition wars.

I didn't, but from all I've read about it and seen, even I'm wary & sceptical.

I'm warier about KS with miniatures from what I've seen of the final products in Relic Knights & the debacle that Robotech has turned into.

Yep. Really wish there were a better commonly accepted term than that confusing mess.

Some of... whatever it's called... when handled right, has been on par with nicer plastic (though still with painful mold lines), but the stuff certainly makes me think twice on anything with sharp edges.

Yeah...not calling it restic is hardly an advancement in restic technology. If that's what they're spinning it as, then that already makes me pretty wary fo the project

I think that was a joke/criticism about the medium. At very least, it was in response to my general comment on the medium...

Have you seen the latest Wrath of Kings production models? They're quite nice. None of the nasty mold misalignment/terribly placed mold lines/super-soft/detail-cray-cray shrinking that I've come to expect of restic.

And also, they've said nothing about advances in restic technology - that's just my conclusion based on my knowledge of recent trends in the industry.

Yeah, like I said above, I think people are just getting used to the medium, and getting better at using it, by extension.

Don't believe so, no. They were showing previews very recently, at least.

Wrath of Kings has not shipped yet. There have been quite a few samples of late though. If its of interest to the thread, I could post some pics.

I'm interested in seeing them in my hand and working with them.

From the images, hair strands and teeth seems to be a lot more crisp than other miniatures in the same use of plastic.

Mold lines are present throughout all the miniatures which may be the big issue. Cleaning up a handful of them is not that big of deal. but when the game requires 40+ figures, it becomes a pain.

If they are anywhere near as bad as the sedition wars miniatures for clean up, tossing them in graveyard.

Wrath of Kings is a hybrid of PVC and Polystryrene. The bodies are PVC and the weapon arms are polystyrene.

Looks lovely but after seeing what's come from CMON & SP/ND in terms of restic pieces and Robotech, I'm wary about how this will translate from the master sculpt above.

I know SP/ND has nothing to do with this one but I'm hesitant about Kickstarters generally given what I've seen recently as finalised products from various manufacturers.

Maybe fimo? I doubt it's a cast.

Final product will like be PVC, ala Zombicide.

They really do have a lot to overcome, don't they?

Ah, thanks!

It had a bit of a "PVC Look" to it, but I couldn't be sure...

I will say that my Zombicide figures have been great, and assuming GG is handling the production side there should not be any issues.

Just remember that it's a Boardgame.

I like it. If it will be for a boardgame with the quality of Zombicide, I will not be disappointed. And comparing the quality to Zombicide is a good thing, because then people will expect what they will receive.

I think it is going to be hard for any of the involved parties to downplay the McVey side of things to the point where 'remember, its boardgame quality plastics here!" will show up.

Unless they have a 'resin' miniature option too?

Zombicide hasn't, so I wouldn't expect it.

That looks like a resin master to me.

I dunno, looks a little oddly shiny in some parts for resin, but maybe just extra mold release seeing as how it is in the crevices and not the high points.

I have to agree with Tre, though. The miniature does indeed look like a resin copy.
