Ah, so not stuff exclusive to only this event, but exclusive to any event they run?

Truly exclusive!

I mean the problem with Games Day was that GW had let it become really crappy. They could have avoided doing that so Hammer Fest will be equally crappy if GW don't put the effort in to make it good.

Has anyone been to the Ricoh Arena and can tell us what the venue is like?

Not surprised to see it move elsewhere, the NEC is pretty costly, I am surprised like many others however, to see they have not squeezed it into Warhammer World.

I think I will go and see whats happening for both days, I went to cov uni so I have friends around and I can bail and do something else if its that bad.

It sounds like it might be good, and the past few games days have been a bit of a let down, surely it can't get any worse ?

Suspect the revamp they're doing might have made this impractical ? Also can be a bit of a PITA getting to Warhammer World currently due to the ongoing tramsystem works

Still least it'll be easier to get there from the town centre when it's all done

Depending on layout it will be cosier than Gamesdays at the NEC and that may not be a bad thing. The venue is much of a muchness. Like any other event and banquet centre.

Interesting that they make the point that each day will have different seminars and that you'll need to go both days to see them all, but nowhere do they actually list what's on which day..

Or offer some kind of 2 day ticket which is slightly cheaper than buying 2 one day tickets.... Seriously GW?

So there is different content on the different days over and above the Golden Demon?

Fair play to GW as they have come up with a way to reduce costs by using a cheaper venue that'll still fit in numbers close to last year's Game Day at the NEC and increase overall attendance by having two days with different content. All that's needed is limited quantities of goodies that you can't reserve to get you to go to day one and Golden Demon to get you to go to day two.

Seriously though, the change of venue is overdue, the NEC is just too big and expensive for what Game Day had become.

I believe its the same set up both days but sunday has the golden demon, but there may be some fiddling round the edges.

I stumped for the sunday as I want to enter GD this year and its a day away to relax, flights to brum and can stay at the venue in the hotel

Hopefuly it wont be the usual 'shop' but have a few things to see and do and make a day of it, obviously there is going to be a big sales bit, GD's always had that, but make tables, demo's, activities is what makes the day entertaining.

My mate text me about this yesterday. I'm all very MEH about it, but it's a weekend away... But it's in Coventry.

Please point me to where I can get a modular gaming table, of equal or better quality than the RoBB, for £100! Making my own doesn't count, as that requires skill, determination and time!

I'm liking the look of those mousepad style mates though, and they're well easy to store...

To be fair neither of those (KS projects) are out yet although both look to be near fulfilment

and no formal decisions have been made about what they'll cost when they hit general retail (although I'm sure they will be cheaper than a RoB board)

If you want easy 3D terrain there are various tile systems on the market, for example the "Hexon" system by Kallistra Games

Total Scenic System offers square tiles if you prefer them.

A system from GHQ.

This one is some kind of self finishing system. I don't know the details. You presumably get plain pieces and paint them yourself. Much like Realm of Battle.

All these systems are more flexible and extendable than RoB and cost less.

But they don't look as nice. They're not bad if you want a basic table suitable for gaming and don't care too much about making pretty diorama tables, but they're far short of the "RoB at half the cost" standard.

The real problem with the RoB probably has way more to do with the limited number of people who have room for their own 6x4 table, don't want to just throw a sheet over the kitchen table and put some random boxes on it for hills, and don't want to make their own table. I suspect if GW cut the price in half they probably wouldn't get all that many extra sales, and most of them would probably just gather dust in the closet until they go on ebay.

Honestly? I think the RoB (both versions) look quite bad. One is just a repetition of boring things, the other is filled with loads of skulls... boring.

that's the book then.

Words alone can no longer convey the horrors of the war that now grips the Imperium. In what should have been an age of enlightenment and glorious triumph, instead warriors from both sides reel from the twin agonies of betrayal and bloodshed; those still fighting on the front lines, and those long forgotten by those they might once have called brother.

Words alone can no longer convey the horrors of the war that now grips the Imperium.

Guess there's no point in buying the book then

I think they look just as nice. The only aesthetic advantage RoB has over the modular systems is that it has "realistic" slopes if you think "realistic" slopes are important for looking nice. They often are a bad thing in practice for wargame models.

I like pretty diorama tables but I wouldn't take RoB for one, I would make my own, and it would be a city scape.

If you've been to one venue, you've seen them all. It's decent. It's got a Tesco megastore on it's doorstep, so if people want to load up on cheap food at lunchtime, that's always handy.

And the major positive in my book is, you don't have to go through Coventry to get there! Sorry Cov!

The big question this year, though, is will the lighting for Golden Demon be any good? From last year's reports it was an absolute fething disaster!

Probably will be better, the big issue was the room it was held in was so dark, so the little halogen lights GW used was the only illumination. At the LG arena the year before they used the same cabinets and lights, but the big overhead sodium lighting setup was brilliant so everything at ground level was well lit, including the mini's. So hopefully the arena has good overhead lights.

More likely a data entry error, but a few quid is hardly going to flood the event with Americans so it wouldn't matter...

Hang on, I could get my brother in Oregon to buy 100, he would send them over here and I could sell them to UK gamers for £18 each and we would clear £600 profit!
