The only reason I can think of posting something like that is if you wanted to provide an example of a gakky photograph, in which case it gets a 10

Maybe that's the context, then.

personally, i am not scared of hurting feelings, as much as knowing that it happens quite easily...
over the last decade, i have read so many posts on forums by people who are hurt by votes of 5's on their models...
while a 5 would be middle-of-the-road work, most of the reactions i have seen are as if the vote cast was a 2...
it is even evident in this thread, where i talked about voting 5's on an average paintjob, and a few posts later AllSeeingSkink is using me as an example of someone who would vote a 2 simply for less-than-perfect blends...
that is quite an over-reaction, but it definitely goes to show how people feel...

I'd be pleased-as-punch to get a bunch of 5's. That's probably what my middle of the road dipped figs deserve anyway.

I used to vote quite a bit on here. I don't anymore for several reasons, first among them being that scores here are so arbitrary. As others have mentioned I have votes on some models that are too high and some I would think are crazy low.

Now a days If I want a model voted on I put it on CMON.

If I am looking for feedback or validation of something I think I did well I'll post it in the P&M Showcase.

a tonne of seriously good opinions on this.
i strarted this thread (itbt) bcs I was a little bummed that the artists who were popping up their latest efforts were, imo, getting no sort of recognition or feedback whatsoever. I spend 80% of the time in the galleries and 20% on the forums. Bcs I paint. I LOVE WK40K for the figs, the fluff and most of all for the 40verse. the game itself comes and goes and all that but the verse is what keeps me happy. Thts just me. DkDk is an awesome place.AS I saif I spend most of my time in the galllerybcs I love to paint. The game is cool n that but the figs and the painting is my buzz. ANYWAYs... I would love it if the artists who take the time to post pics of their work gota littel more recognition.
now, .... some folk were saying - oh they just want validation. ok. yes. thats true. but....whats wrong with that? I'm not the shittest artist in the hobby nor am i the best, i'm pretty good adn i'm always looking to improve. do i want validation? yes! i want validation in the sense that i would like other members of DkDk (amateurs adn pro-p alike) to give me an indication do they think im going in the right direction or completly shagging it up!!
i'm an incedibly cynical person, but I have a very high opinion of the general members on this site. so i value the consensus here. Some folk were saying - oh the voting means buggger all or well its totally subjective therefoere it means nothing. this isnt the oscars guys!!! I like thats its totatally each persons opinoin!!! adn so it should be!!!
every person on this site are gamers - be they wh40k, infinity, pp or whatever.....voting is on what you like and what you think is good.
Jah - you are coming from one point of view - you're a propainter, and a damned good one (i've looked into youre work - wow!!) - you said you dont vote bcs you feel you might hurt feelings bcs you'd be judging aginst a pro-p standrd. whats wring with that? you have worked hard to be that godd - you should be allowed to be more critcal. judging a person work hard doesnt make you a dick, if you give some tips and advice. thast makes you a gentleman, in fact Jah - if anybody - your votes adn comments would be most appreciated bcs you have something to say and have a gakload more tricks adn tips up your sleeve than most folk!
whose that other guy who was commenting....ah! beafraid...cheers fella! i agreed with so much of what you were saying. passioante person you are!
anyways - my point was (and i'm realy sorry for going on so long) that i wish follk would take a minute or so to pay heed to the gallery adn the artists that put their work up -
truth be told - i py less a little less attention to the pro-paint 'companies'that seem to have sneeked in and the únassembled, unpainted pics that come up, but I really enjoy going through the galery and seeing the work that is going on. Some may say that 2click voting means bugger all - well I really disagree. I just finshed a wraithlord there recently, popped up a couple of pics adn got my first 5+ votes and it made my day. I was(am) very happy with tthat fig and it was realy nice to see that some folk thought it was a good piece of work too. validation? sure. i saw that and turned from my computer to my work station and moved onto my new project with a fething big smile on my face and more importantly confidence in myself as I started painting my next fig. it may be just a wee vote but it does make folk feel better. someone actually left a commetn on that fig as well and that made an even bigger impact. so - dont be too noncalant or cynical about the voting being worthless, or just ego stroking or whatever. the voting has no rules. it;s down to each and every persons own personal opinion - the more people that vote - the more balanced ti becomes. but do vote; it goves folk, who have taken a chance on putting something very personal on a publuc forum something back. if you give a low score - be honest, take a second to say why. that score and that comment will be really well recieved and helpful. I spend 4-5 hours a day painting and about 2-3 hours a days trawling the internet for tipos/tutoriols -not bcs i'm gak but bcs i want to learn.
anyway - i have blabbed on enough. that is just my opinion and i thank allof you for some great points and opinions. never be afraid to give an honest opinion and pass on your own hardwrought skills. This is (imho) one of the best most beautiful hobbies going and its only made better through community.
thx for listening and sorry for the loooooooong post
