Great looking army. I was wondering how much in points is this army worth? I am highly tempted with 30k but for now its a bit too costly for me.

Dude, these guys look AMAZING. Literally the only thing I could recommend is redoing the bloody painting and stuff with a coat of Blood for the Blood God technical paint to make it look wet, and a little richer.

Next is the Legionnaire; depsite looking rather ordinary he's going to be part of a Terror squad all equipped with Volkite chargers (have yet to arrive hence the missing gun), as such I'm going to try and have skulls and heads hanging off of them and will try and do something with each helmet to inspire fear (his is bone coloured to resemble a skull with painted on blood coming from the eyes); might try and do a skull on some lighting on others. etc... The legion symbol is pretty basic freehand and could be better, but I didn't want to kill myself doing it another 29 times so I'm not going back to make it super detailed or tidy it up. Finally I didn't do any white highlights on where the lightning joins up, just keeping it simple for my basic troopers.

I have been thinking on the rivets though; I've been leaving them blue to save time, but should I go back on paint them silver?

Currently I have 1950 fully painted, though its not a legal list yet. Total I have 3500; another 20 volkite guys, 15 terminators with axes, curze. Thanks a ton for the compliment

Hahaha, yea the joke is that its the "real" xiphon model as the official one took so many queues from the Viper

Yea usually my Raven Guard are what he's playing against if I'm in a bat rep, since we do fully painted I haven't had a chance to use my Night Lords yet. Sadly we power through our 30k games so quickly we forget to get the camera :(

That's a real honour coming from you, thanks so much. I find that it looks good enough to forgive poor transitions, which is great because I'm really trying not to get stuck on time consuming details/techniques

I actually am not the biggest fan of the gloss bloods because it can get too overpowering and I'm not the best at realistic blood to start. I try and keep my "actual" blood pretty muted and use it more as an interesting detail. Plus they're killing thin-blooded mortals, its allowed to be watery

Hahah, thanks. If I ever do noisemarines to use in 40k I can make them all play air guitar

Colour wheels never hurt

Sometimes I find that using complementary colours is too...obvious? Idk, its a bit hard to explain but it feels almost over used. I prefer to go with more of an analogous slant to my Night Lords (blues and purples) and use the red and bronze for contrast and to break the models up.

Looking at the attributes of each colour is pretty funny in this context; here's a couple of pictures (raining outside so used my desk lamp for a yellow tinged light source) of a trust worthy, stable and tranquil model

Other than tweaking the corpse and the blood still the model is done. I had my second attempt of making flayed skin; some on his left leg and on his right ...chest area? Because of the pose of the arm the bundle of skulls couldn't be placed so i madea ragged strip of flayed skin to cover up the holes for the intended bit.

I'll try and have better pictures up soon, but witcher 3 and rain might have something to say about that

The dread is looking very nice, I think the blood needs to look a bit fresher in places either by adding some gloss or Blood for the Blood God.

I agree that the blood needs more tweaking; I usually try and keep it subtle specifically because it looks bad en masse if its all flat

Going to add a bit of gloss to the blood to break up the flatness of it, hope it doesnt look too weird compared with the rest of my stuff.

I also finally got the first power axe terminator painted up

I'd try the gloss on a test piece first before you go ahead and apply it to a mini just to make sure you like it. Its not always easy to see how the mini looks your end, cameras can be funny things.

Looks great! I'd maybe have gone for red on the bolter casing for contrast, but it looks fine as is!

That or some faded brass fitting on the storm bolter, to tie it in more with the rest of the Terminator Armour. He's coming along great, though!

In other news: while I haven't actually gotten any models finished, I have put some more work into curze's armour. I initially was planning on just doing some line highlights, but it turned very quickly into blending

Because of this its going to take a while as 1. my light theory is pretty bad 2. there's a lot of armour... which results in a very long time for me to be satisfied with a segment. For my work today it was mainly struggling with his chest and left leg until deciding just to block out areas with the lighter colour; as a result there are some areas that look nicer and some that look fairly rough (I may have even missed a part with the lighter blue too), but its still a long ways off.

First Legionnaire of the second squad done. I picked up some Blood for the Blood God and its excellent; I've touched up all my previous models with it. I've also started making a ton of guys with their CCWs, which will be mixed into every squad to keep things interesting (I did forget to trim off the chaos symbols though :? )
