I buy Visions when it features models I'm interested in. Blanchitsu has been moved to that out of white dwarf since the day Visions came out, and I've got to say it's always a treat. Then again, I am more interested in the painting/modelling side of the hobby than most, so I can understand if it's not very popular. Our store only gets like 2 copies in each issue and between them has at least one on the shelf at any given point. So... that's an indicator of how popular they are I guess. Still, the new size, the quality of images, I find it really inspirational and actually have gone back to my old ones every now and then for inspiration.

It seems that for the two local GW stores local to me (Warrington and Liverpool) some editions of WD are sold out by Wednesday, other weeks they'll have a couple of copies left over. So WD weekly seems to be selling at about the rate expected (I don't know how many they get in normally).

As for Visions, I had a direct debit sub to the old white dwarf (a present from the Mrs.) and I get it for something like £3 a month. The initial small format version of Visions was poor, the larger one is in my opinion worth the £3 my wife spends on it a month.

As for WD weekly, I just this last week bought a 12 month sub. I like it. The two mags together make good bog reading and the Visions new format really does help and drive me to paint and model better.

My flgs said they wont be carrying WD anymore because nobody is buying.

I don't think they have a choice unless they don't sell GW at all. On the other hand they can send back unsold magazines now, so this makes little sense...

I was buying white dwarf when it first went digital, but stopped after it switched to visions. its not useful to me in any way. I don't have a local GW so even if I wanted the weekly I can't get it anyway.

Instead I buy wargames illustrated on my ipad, and one I think called miniature wargames. Both are cheaper than WD was and offer more content. And neither is run for the benefit of a single company, instead they have a wide variety of topics.

I buy it when it's relevant to me but I wouldn't subscribe. I bought them weekly for a while to get rules and painting guides for all my new Mechanicus models, but there's not enough interesting content to keep me buying it now that those releases are finished.

I'm not sure they always can (or if it's practical). My FLGS has a lot of WD:W back issues on the shelf that haven't sold, but haven't been returned.

I don't know, but my FLGS has stopped carrying WD and Visions as well.

If there are rules in them keeping them to sell later would be more advisable than returning them. Has the weekly got any bigger? I haven't bought one in ages. The release schedule GW have embarked upon could only be kept up by a weekly publication. I can't keep up with the new releases any more and I think that's made more difficult by not being able to get WD. This thread has made me think about subscribing though.

I also have never seen ravage magazine before. The covers look amazing proper old school WD feel to them. Can you get hard copies of these in the uk?

yep and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be, around October/november last year the magazine just became a huge product placement; they stopped publishing battle reports, designer interviews, tactical advice from the writers, features on models painted by the writers and minigames just to name a few, they also stopped crediting the writers of the articles, the whole magazine just became a massively impersonal product placement. now it is plagued with photos of the week's pre-orders and the rules for them to tempt you into buying both the new models and the magazine so you can field the new models (albeit basically) without buying a codex. I still buy it as they very very occasionally have a good feature in there. however if you are looking for a magazine written by hobbyists for hobbyists try elsewhere, if you are looking for "free" rules and product placements then white dwarf is what you want.

terrible it's not a true battle report, it's just a series of 1v1 battles that tell you the outcome and little else besides (it feels nothing like their old battle reports from about a year ago), no pictures, just the result

No they don't have to carry it, trade accounts can choose from up to 3 modules for their stock, wd is an optional add on.

That's a shame! Though hardly a surprise... If they had a good battle report each week like the old ones, the magazine would be good beyond collecting a few episodes here and there when your army gets a new wave of releases.

I was on the fence about getting the AoS white dwarf for collector's sake. SadPanda says there will be a few miniature with it, so I think I will be getting it after all :-D

what? rules for the models or actual free playable models that come with the magazine?

There used to be an online shop that imported them called Valiant Wargames, although sadly that looks like it has closed down now.

I think you would need to either import from the US from CMoN or get the download/kindle edition.

I still have the launch issue from 2nd edition 40k (that came with the free Space Marine), it looks like it has been through a tumble-dryer a few times!

I will hazard a guess that the AoS launch edition will not be as good.

i've had the digital subscription to Ravage since they started it a couple of years ago...
it's a fun read, even though i'm not a gamer (it is very much a mag for gamers), and it is very reasonably priced...
it makes a good compliment to Visions...
one is pure eye candy, while the other one is a good read...

by the way, am i crazy, or did the price of Visions drop recently???
i could have sworn it was $12.99 for the individual digital issues, but now they are $8.99...
the subscription still gets you 12 issues for $80...

cheers

One free sigmarine! Maybe to entice you to buy a whole new game system and army to go with it.

yeah, I found the post, really hope it turns out to be true as truth be told I rather like the look of the new "empire" stuff. I hope all of the rules are provided in one place so that I can collect some. FYI issue 74 ACTUALLY HAS A BATTLE REPORT, after nearly 7 months without one, hopefully they return to white dwarf as I rather enjoyed reading them.
