Kan - formations are good and I do use them, but they are not always what we want and we have to pay a tax on the additional rubbish that gets thrown in.

Now I'm not saying it will be, but past formations have shown that GW really know nothing.

I'd be over the moon if one came with with 2-3 crisis units and a commander, or something similar.
But chances are they will throw in some other rubbish.

You're thinking of the formations from the campaign books I feel.
By and large, the book formations tend to be all meat and no filler with some options thrown in for some(the 10th and 1st Company Task Forces in C: SM for example let you pick from the different units which fall under Scouts and Veterans respectively).

With the return of the Armoured Interdiction Cadre, I think it is safe to say that we will be seeing a revision or just flat return of the Rapid Insertion Force(1 Stealth Team) and 3-5 three model Crisis Suit Teams.

The formations themselves are usually full of meat yeah, but the detachments are where the filler comes in. See tomb blades in the Decurion, and plenty of units in the Eldar Warhost.

Personally I'd be fine with any formations as long as the rules aren't broken and the opportunity cost is high enough. 7th edition is formation edition like it or not, and formations are one thing that would bring the Tau up to the 7.5 standard of power.

That's the riptide and broadside one right? I wonder how much that will change in the new codex? Especially if ripties become 1-3 squads. Will it even be legal at that point?

So one unit in the Reclamation Legion(which is the only "Troop" choice that Necrons get)...but really, the Eldar Warhost? The thing which for its Troop choices can take a Windrider Host?

Honestly I love formations. I really do. They're a lot more interesting, to me, than just the standard "I brought a netlist" thing.

TheNewBlood was thinking about "meat" in the Formations themselves, like the Vypers, the Tomb Blades you mentioned, or random Vaul's Wrath Batteries and War Walkers.

Though, considering the nature of the existing Tau Formations (mostly the Apoc Formations that will be probably included in the new Codex), I would say that the Tau will get much tighter Formation compositions, more in line with the SM rather than the Necron/Eldar.

Seriously? A formation is literally a studio-designed net list!

Okay that's fair.

I should have been a bit more clear/specific:
Honestly I love these Detachments made up of formations and the fact that formations are considered Detachments in and of themselves. I really do. They're a lot more interesting, to me, than just the standard "I brought a netlist" thing.

I LIKE that if I wanted to run an all Space Marine Scout force(the 10th Company Task Force, consisting of 3-5 units chosen from Scout Squads or Scout Biker Squads with an optional Sergeant Telion) from the Raptors Chapter acting as ambushers, I can give them air support with the Storm Wing(Stormraven Gunship and 2 Stormtalons)--all without ever having an HQ in my list!

I look forward to the same thing with Tau players being able to do the same.

I, personally, feel that the prevalence of Formations and them acting as Detachments in their own right? It leads to a lot more varied and interesting lists from people.

The formations encorage a mixed force a bit more, so I love them.

I just hope our new formations do not force stupid team ups (like forced pathfinders, god help me if that happens), and that no overpowered "spam me" formation like the wraiths show up.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

That's a wild guess. Nowhere in the Ghostkeel rules or rumours say that Fire Team could do something similar to that.

You activate the holophoton and then Hemlock can't fire the template.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion & X-Wing: CIS / WWX: Union

That's what "For all we know" implies.

NOBODY knows what "Fire Team" does right now. All we know is that the Ghostkeel has it and the Stormsurge does not.

So you throw something equally as terrifying at it to start with. The Holophoton affects one enemy unit by making it Snap Shoot that turn.

Judging by the name "Fire Team", I would take a wild stab in the dark that its related to shooting, and to multiple units/models working in a team.

For example, a bonus of some sort (say, +1 BS, or pinning) by shooting multiple Fire Team units at the same target at once.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
