May as well use this slot.

So here's the Marauder giant WIP. The barrel will be finished tomorrow, and the sword is pretty much done, barring varnish. I've gone ginger with him - I thought from feel but I noticed that the box art has a ginger giant on it as well, so it's probably seeped in at leas tpartly through osmosis over the years. Still, he's giving me a kind of west country farmer combined with celt - despite the cut sleeves that are much more swiss-german.

So the problem I've got is how to paint his clothing. As I've said, I'd prefer to avoid the patchwork style of the box art, even though I've seen some lovely examples online. I'm tossing up whether to go for a mono-colour, some kind of simple heraldic device (chevron or par chevron, etc) in two colours, or perhaps tartan - though painting tartan on something this size could be nightmarish.

I really like the colours you have going on with belakor. Kind of reminds me a little of the Balrog.

I think the 50mm non-lipped base is my first choice and then the 60mm one.

Second on the 50mm round, no lip base for Beli.

Talos looks great. He's a big ol' dude.

Tartan on the giant would look amazing, I have faith you could pull it off.

Tartan would look spectacular. An alternative could be to use provincial colours so for example nuln from warhammer uses a half and half black and yellow I think and the reik is white with red trim.

I've been doing a bit of console gameplaying and reviewing in the last few days. The figures have become a bit of a slog, but I'm still doing a bit on them each day. I've been really struggling hard on what to do with the giant. I've settled on Tartan rather than patchwork, but the blue/green or red? I'm leaning more towards the red after putting together a couple of very bodgie photochops.

Giant's head is done now, though

I did a bit of playing with his face with stuff I rarely get to do on human-toned models. Ruddy, boozy cheeks and nose. A bit of blue-grey around the eyes, 5 o'clock shadow, reddened lips and zits.

His gear is done as well. I might go over the metal shield rim one more time, though. Seems to look a little yellowish for some reason, and it's bothering me.

Legs aren't done yet, but this is to show the fleshtone progression - so it won't be quite as ruddy as it looks in the two tartan shots up top.

Bellingham still looks messy. I fear that my chosen scheme is going to leave him looking messy regardless. I found a pic online of a Belakor that's got a very similar scheme, so it's influenced me a bit as well. I've gone for a "scarred" look to the star of chaos on his chest and filled in his nips with some areolae - since if they've sculpted nipples on him and I'm doing his chest in a fleshtone, we may as well do it properly.. I need to work out the colour to do the straps on his armour plates and the skull across his chain tabard. I'd usually go for a dark teracotta, but a dark red might work as a subtle spot colour while staying harmonious to the rest of the model. Green, blue, purple, tan would stand out too much, and brown/leather feels too "cheap" and natural for such an exalted Daemon Prince.

He seems to look a little better from the rear, though. Less stuff going on. Though the front will look a bit different once it's all properly shaded and blended and cleaned up - though I don't think it'll look all that much different...

I'll have to get onto the bases for both of these clowns as well. At the moment it's looking like something that will happen post-Christmas. Getting them both finished before NYE is looking debatable now. Here's to hoping!

I love Be'lakor or however you say it, and it is nice to see an alternative to the standard paint scheme which I find a bit bland. Love the work on the giants head and it is nice to paint more facial effects on a larger model. Good luck with the tartan!!

You've done an amazing job on the marauder giants face, really does the mini justice.

Thanks guys - I'm hoping that Bel will come up once he's cleaned up and the horn/bone parts are properly reshaded and highlighted - and the black skin gets its highlights as well.

I notice that my gakky photos of the giant are a bit washed out as well, so I'll (hopefully) manage to get some better ones later on that show his face a little better. Probably once he's done. admittedly.
