Yup, for anyone scanning this thread...

the sprue pics are the OLDER sprue pics, and have since been redesigned to have even MORE bodies per sprue!

definitely excited!

Spoiler:

We were lucky enough to visit Warlord Games today at just the right time!

As you can see below, this is a sample plastic sprue that was created by Wargames Factory of Ultramodern multipose warriors. These were never released prior to the deal made with Warlord Games. The idea behind the sprue is that you can use the weapons attached to the arms or the spare items to create warriors from a number of different armies, so you can use the AK74 arm and a suitable head for Russian troops, the M4 arm for US forces or the SA80 arm for UK troops for a range of theatres of operation.

As this was one of the original versions of the sprue layout from Wargames Factory, there are more weapons than warrriors that can be constructed. The good news is that Warlord Games have re-designed the sprue to include more torsos and legs, so you can construct more figures per sprue but still have a range of weapon and other options.

These will be out at Salute, as will the new Project Z boxed wargame – it’s time to gather weapons and ammo and prepare for the zombie apocalypse!

I can't imagine that Warlord are daft enough to not sell the rulebook separately. Though if the box is a good deal I see no reason not to buy it.

As for those modern military minis. I am really glad that I picked up a copy of Skirmish Sangin now. All that's needed is some plastic generic insurgent types to compliment them and modern day middle eastern wars are pretty much sorted (yes I know loads of metal minis exist but I would rather have plastics if possible).

I imagine that between the military set and a few pieces here and there from the Survivors, insurgents would be pretty easy. especially if you're even remotely adept with a little Green Stuff.

Wow. Those soldiers look great! My only disappointment comes from the lack of gas mask heads and that there are no heads wearing a balaclava with a helmet. Pretty minor quibble though and not one that will stop me from buying some of these guys.

Who knows, maybe the new sprue by Warlord fulfils those fetishes needs.

I'm sure the next plastic set, "Gimps and Furries", will cover the few demographics that WGF/WG don't currently have a plastic kit for.

Crossing my fingers for a horse mask myself.

I like the soldiers The original sprue would have only got you what... 16 guys per box? I'm thinking 4 sprues per WGF kit (3 of survivors/zombies, 1 of extra gear), but with a heavier balance towards weapons on each sprue... you might just get 4 sprues, or something... I guess the vixens box only had 3 sprues to make the 30 zomladies plus crawlers though. I guess we'll see. If the box even comes with 20 of those guys it will be worth it, probably worth getting more than one for various factions. Modern Warfare / Call of Duty the Skirmish Game! (tm)

Those sprues are pretty packed! And according to the article, there's now more legs/torsos per sprue than the pics thanks to a WLG redesign, which is good (there's quite a horrific arm/body imbalance on the original sprue, you'd be wasting a lot of plastic with only 4 guys per frame and 20-odd arms)

Price and final contents pending, I'd be very tempted to pick up a box, put together half a dozen or so guys for various nations (from the look of the sprue and what they say, there's parts for US, British and Russian troops, so a fourth militia/insurgent faction wouldn't be too hard to do either) and write up some rules for a tabletop version of CoD/Battlefield-multiplayer-style games; if I can make them familliar-ish/play like the video games, and simple enough, it might be a good one for playing with less wargamery types.

What you're describing is exactly what The Battlefield does - it has game modes taken directly from CoD, respawns, loadouts, multiplayer, etc.

Might look to that for some inspiration then. I'll probably still end up writing my own simply as I greatly enjoy the process of rules-writing, but it'll be good to have something to compare to.

The Battlefield is one of those rulesets that I've always wanted to play, but I didn't want to get a bunch of metal models for.

If a single boxset gives me at least two teams to play with, then I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

If you use 28mm models you only need 4 guys per team, unless you want to use squads (I think squads are mainly meant for 15mm) in which case you would need 16 models per team. Squads makes the most sense game-wise (in squad mode, you have 4 models per unit, and models are essentially "wounds", whereas with one figure representing each unit, that figure would have 4 "wounds").

Is that the difference between the "First Person Shooter" and "Third Person Shooter" modes?

I'm not sure what happened to them, but Crooked Dice did do a set of balaclava heads and gasmask heads for their soldiers that may work on these. That preview just caused a cancellation of TWD as the bikers and these soldiers sound much much better!

Could someone who is more knoweldgable on guns do a quick list of what gun types are actually on the sprue, aside from the standard machine guns? I can see the RPG and the rocket launcher, and what might be a shotgun, but I can't make out any sniper rifles or LMGs that, from a gaming perspective, might be quite handy to have for assorted rulesets.

Looks like various types of M4, AK74, L85 (SA80) and what looks like Sig STG's. Benelli M4 shotgun. There's some LMG varieties of the L85 by the looks of it, and some sort of H&K LMG. There's RPG-7's and AT-4's. Don't see any sniper rifles.

Cool, cheers for that. I think there are a fair few long rifles and maybe an actual sniper rifle on the survivor sprues, so if need be I'll just commandeer something from there should I need one.

Survivor sprue has a rifle with a scope that could work. I think it's on the male sprue.

Nope. I have some gas mask heads that I bought from them to make SAS troops and they brought out the balaclava heads about 2 days later

Those heads look good, but doesn't Crooked Dice trend more towards GW-esque heroic proportions? Wouldn't those heads be too chunky?

Actually, the heads of Crooked Dice are perhaps a wee bit smaller, so probably perfect for these.
