My wife knows me well. She can sense when I get new models(whether brand new, or just new to me) I get happy, usually buy flowers, get her a present. Yeah she knows me

Heh, an interesting spin off thread would be “What do you bribe your wife with to get away with new purchases?”

I mostly just stick with chocolate. Either straight, or brownies. You can get fancy, high quality bars (which generally score more points) but nothing makes the house smell like a tray of brownies coming out of the oven. Smells like forgiveness.

I've spent some hobby money, but not on models. I bought the Uncharted Empires book for Kings of War, and some movement trays for the same.

I'd argue that they are both accessories that allow me to play the game, and not more miniatures to paint.

Seeing the Skeleton Horde Start Playing! that is about to be released, I don't know if I can hold my vows. I had a VC army back in 6th edition and all these AoS subfactions are really tempting me to start multiple small themed armies.
My wife is going to kill me, though. Haven't even finished building my Ogre army I bought last summer :/

Me and my wife get an equal amount of "pocket money" each month, so she doesn't care about what I do with my money and vice versa... From reading this thread it seems like a good strategy

I have the same arrangement.

Pool salaries, split fixed costs, put money into savings, take half of the rest each.

This way I can buy overpriced plastic and she can buy overpriced clothing, and neither of us need to feel guilty.

Yeah well, I married a German Accountant - while guilt free plasticrack would be good, her innate ability to rub two coins together and make three is pretty handy

I caved at bought the Hobbit Trolls (it was a good deal and I wanted to grab them before I had to go to GW) and some Mantic dungeon baddies for Frostgrave. So about £45 all in. I don't feel too bad.

I'm making pretty good progress on clearing stuff out now via eBay. It's mostly a space issue; I've got unused gaming stuff split over about 6 cupboards/cabinets, so I'm trying to cut that right down to 1 or 2. If I'm not going to use it in the near future, and it's not particularly special, then it's just going. With the exception on my 15mm ancients stuff; it's still bagged but I've been wanting to do them for years.

It's amazing what sorts of random stuff I've got lying around, and how many things I know I have but can't find (including 2 Kingdom Death mini's I wanted to sell before eBay gets flooded with them).

I think my vow is not to buy anything from GW.

Pretty much ever again.

It's difficult. Those Start Collecting boxes are tempting. The game sets (Assassinorum Execution, Hulk, Deathwatch, the rumored AoS one) even more so.

I've kind of failed already, because I bought half of the AoS starter from someone here on Dakka. The squatting of TKs and predicted squatting of Brets (the army I was starting ) has killed any interest I had in AoS though, so I'm probably going to trade away the Stormcasts and the Brets I had accumulated. The Beast battalion and entire TK range on "Last Chance to Buy" almost tore a panic purchase from my greedy lil nubbinz

The problem with swearing off all mini purchases is I can't help myself around new games. Especially Kickstarter ones. I've backed quite a few KS in the last few months. Put a dollar down on Age of Tyrants, Shattered Earth, and Wreck-Age; Shangri-LA. Went whole-hog on Maelstrom's Edge, Human Interface; Nakamura Tower, Karamaka, Battlestations 2nd Ed, and soon to add to the list: Lands of Ruin.

Don't know about the Shieldmaiden KS from Shieldwolf. I will probably never get to use any of the cool stuff they're offering. WHEN WILL I NEED A MAMMOTH? I DUNNO BUT I WANT ONE.

I'm hoping the Black Rain KS shapes up to be something awesome. There's always room for more cyberpunk.

I've also picked up Beyond the Gates of Antares, Firestorm Armada, Relic Knights, Dropzone Commander and a Sedition Wars box (with some of the KS goodies). I've been considering picking up Mutant Chronicles Warzone Resurrection too. I'm pretty hype for Dropfleet Commander even though I missed the KS (damn you unemployment!)

And it's all too easy to justify spending money on X-wing. It's Star Wars, it's my most played and most enjoyed game and the miniatures are prepainted! I can't stop myself!

Sorry to derail, so anyway, yeah. No more buying from GW. No matter what they throw at me.

Hi everyone, I need to join this support group.

I've been on a self-imposed moratorium on miniature purchases for the last few months. In the process I've been trying to sell off my excess and only trade for bits and pieces to round out existing projects. No purchases, though, and no new projects.

But last week I bought another Arena Rex model (Euryale, soooo cool!) and so the clock must start over again. I tried justifying the purchase by using funds acquired from some of my sales, but I know that is just me kidding myself. I am sick. I am an addict. I also need Stheno to round out my Gorgon ludus. No, I don't need that figure, I want it. But its the last one of the three... so, help?

Help me stay strong and not buy the multi-armed beauty.

For me, it helps to focus on painting the stuff I already own. If I'm not looking at stuff to buy, I'm not tempted to buy. I think that's the key -- keep yourself busy or occupied with something else. I'm also perfectly happy to scratch build rather than buy. But the temptation is still there.

Don't feel bad, 2 years ago, I got some Ork Boyz for my brithday, and I still need to paint them.

But first, I need to strip off the primer.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Very true!

I have been trying to keep busy with on-going projects, but an injured hand prevented me from painting over the last week. Instead of painting I spent a lot of my free time looking at my gaming materials which led to making up army lists in my head, which finally led to browsing for new goodies.

My hand is healed enough to use my paint brush properly without pain so hopefully no more moments of weakness.

Made the promise to my wife I wouldn't buy any new models or games this year until all is painted. Good news is so far this year I have stuck to my promise, bad news is I spent $500 this year on new fishing stuff

I'm a student and I'm on a 350 a month wage. And I'm a cumpulsive spender. And I want to fuel my plastic craic addiction so fething badly, but I have 3 Tactical Squads, Heresy Terminators and BAC Captain to paint, as well as some metal models to strip and paint. And I want to join in the FW win a Titan contest. And I want to buy my brothers unopened Orks. And I want to eat and go on my spring break trip.

I've spent all week researching various models I want and their cost and how I'll ever afford them and I need help.

Sincerely
A plastic craic addict

I am a known purchase embargo violator.

However after buying BaC I solemnly agreed to not buy any more models used or new until I finish painting EVERYTHING I currently own. I can't break this vow with my wife again or bad things might happen.

So for the next 10 years or so (at my current painting rate) I am banned from buying any new models.

The struggle became very real with the Deathwatch release.

I support you all in your struggle as I hope you will support me in mine.

Also still have 50 Imperial Fists Tac marines, 20 assault marines, 8 drop pods, 12 Sons of Horus marines, 10 SoH terminators. Emperor help me paint and not buy/trade for more!

I read through this thread and it inspired me to join in on the buying ban! Good thing I just bought a fully painted full custom Eldar army!!! It'll be unpacked and put straight in the glass cabinet with the other 2 armies I already have. Need to cut down on the stockpile and I think after reading through the thread, I'm motivated to sell a few things off on eBay. It's not something I want to do but I go into my hobby room and look at the shelves of unpainted models in various stages of building, from on-the-sprue to assembled and primed, and its a huge negative thing to me. Then I get the feeling of not doing anything at all about any of it and either jump on the computer or just leave my hobby room all together. Clearing out a good chunk of it might motivate me to get back on the ball.

I wish there were in-person support groups for plastic crack! HAHA

"I'm here because I have an addiction. I walk past the local gaming store and I get all itchy. I walk past it a few times but the addiction makes me go inside. Then I pace in front of and look at things that aren't even for my army. <sniff> I tell myself I don't need it but I think of the cool paint job I can put on it and the cool bits I can use for another project. And then....I give in to the temptation....the evil temptation and buy the kit. I bring it home, rip off the shrink wrap, pull out the trees and think of the paint job in my head and how amazing its gonna look. But.....<sniff> it just sits there. I look at it months later and its still sitting there!!!" <starts balling>
"It'll be ok Bob. So who's next?"

That's how it would go!!!

Good luck to all that are taking the vow! We can all get through this together.

There are minis in the new Deathwatch box I desperately crave. Not enough to get me to pick up the box. I went to e-bay to see how bad it would be to grab the ones I wanted.

I did not bid, even though some were just a few bucks.
I closed the browser and walked away.

I can live without.

This Non-purchasing vow is killing me right now. I am so close to completing my Ravenwing to codex compliance. I have my entire Imperial Fists 3rd company, 100 man Deathwing, and so Close to the complete ravenwing. Only need 3 attack bikes and 3 DA flyers. The temptation is strong. Does it count if you bought them "used" lol, that would be my only saving grace.

I will approve your purchase of 3 attack bikes and 3 da flyers if you do any of the following;

1. Earn double the mount you will spend through a new income - odd jobs, selling old stuff. Use the other half of the money on something responsible (your missus, your family, your house)
2. Paint 3x the amount of points in other stuff you have left unpainted
3. Spend the equivalent amount of time (at $5/hour) doing something different and positive - volunteering somewhere, learning another skill, learning a language, whatever.
4. Spend the equivalent amount of time (at $1/hour) doing chores you need to do - cleaning the garage, organizing stuff, etc (not general cleaning, specific jobs you don't want to do and could leave).

Or do whatever you want, it's your life.

Doing pretty good so far. To be fair, I bought an airbrush and accessories (this was a planned purchase) so I don't really have any money to spend on models anyway So far this year I've bought said airbrush, paints and accessories, and model-wise nothing but a Vaul's Wrath battery that I actually need for a tournament this fall. I've also sold quite a lot of stuff. So I'm feeling ok
