I spent hours using the vehicle/robot creation rules, probably hundreds of hours with the Robot/Dreadnaught creation rules that came in
WD.
The only proble with the former as that they made any sort of usable Armoured vehicle massively expensive. 500point land raiders anyone?
They were very difficult to destroy/target then with the overlay system.
Nah, when the rules using the acetate overlay were introduced, they revised the points values massively downwards (a Rhino went from a couple of hundred points to 25.

Who were armed with weapons that
GW never made models for...
Sure they did. OK, so the boltgun looks like what we now call a fleshborer, and the heavy weapon trooper has been variously described as carrying a multi-melta or a missile launcher, but that squad could be built using three of the four
40k Zoat models.
As for Overwatch, it was originally in a rules/tactics article in a White Dwarf in the 110-120-something range - which as well as describing how to use overwatch to defend against traitor Marines moving from one ruined building to another also discussed the option of chucking grenades over a wall so as to catch the bad guy hiding behind a tree.
The article in
WD 129 was mostly about Space Marines, but
IIRC, everyone could use the new Overwatch rules.
Gads. If I could remember this much information about
useful subjects, I'd be dangerous. Heck, being able to remember the correct rules for games I play nowadays would be a start ...

With

Good work. I like these retro reviews.
There are hooky PDFs of this book, and all the
RT-era publications, as I've got 'em all.
One possible future subject might be the Confrontation ruleset, that spawned Necromunda (and Inquisitor, I think). It's spread across half a dozen White Dwarfs from 1991-2, but if you have scans of 'em, I think there's plenty of material to look at.
Perhaps I should have a go at
WD 130 - the very first
GW publication I ever bought. I'd need to get back into my 11-year-old mindset, and get back that sense of not having a clue what it was all about, but it was still all cool.
