Maybe I should, couldn't hurt.

I did this about 10 years ago. Just started a new job and was still going through the phase of dress sharp before I felt I could loosen up, dresscode wise. So, full on suit, tie, polished shoes, well groomed and smelling fresh. Walked into a GW to pick up something, I forget what. Suspect it may have been during the time they were releasing 4th Edition Epic Swordwind. The shop manager was unfazed. However, the gaggle of unwashed regulars seemed to cower in the corner, terrified. The seemed to relax, but only slightly, when I started chatting away to the manager.

One wife spoke of her disgust: ‘He’d often get plain packages in the post, but he just told me they were football DVDs and car manuals. I feel so stupid. When I saw his name on the list I immediately ran into the bedroom and found a shameful box of 50-sided dice, broken models and indecipherable yet impressively illustrated rule books; which he’d attempted to conceal beneath his back issues of Bra-Busters and a Katie Price autobiography.’

‘I feel like I don’t know him anymore, I just keep imagining him undercoating tiny little tanks with other men!’

Brilliant!

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

'T Other Half doesn't play anything herself, despite me getting X-Wing for her to play. She beat me in the 2 games we have played, and it's boring.
A visit to the local GW a year or two back ended up with us buying the 'Radagast' starter box of The Hobbit. We got it for the Dwarf models (Fili in particular), which I have yet to paint up.
A run out to a FLGS last weekend and she was looking at the eagles, until she saw the price, even discounted.
And then I talked her into playing Zombicide:Black Plague last week, after the crate turned up. We're on for another game this weekend, after it turned out to be "not that bad after all".

So, my trips to GW with Her have gone better than I would have thought.

I love it when my wife comes into the shop with me. She distracts the salesmen and I quickly find what I'm looking for and I'm out! Only downside is she sees what I spend which means I end up paying almost double for everything I buy there .

This is exactly how it goes with my wife and I.

My wife encourages and supports me in my hobby and often tells me I don't get enough time at the hobby shop. Further proof I married the most wonderful woman on the planet!

GW didn't mean to hit your wallet and I know they love you, baby. I'm sure they won't do it again so it's ok to purchase and make up.

That is awesome to hear, my wife doesn't mind me painting and will actually throw in a brush every now and then but that is something I do at home...starting to think I might be under house-arrest but I'm the last one to know

The Wife will often encourage me to head to the FLGS. That said, I’m a stay at home dad, so don’t get out much. She likes to see me happy, my hobbies make me happy, and she acknowledges that. Supportive, but non-participating.

I try not to get into the "She-buys, I-buy” thing. That’s not healthy for the budget. But if I spent as much on minis as she does for hair dye and new clothes, I’d have a lot more on the shelf.

It does make it easier to justify my occasional impulse purchase though...

@ TheAuldGrump, I wish I could get my old lady to play but she has more interest in walking on broken glass barefoot then playing a game of 40k with me...

I'm in the same boat unfortunately! Although she does play computer games (which is unusual enough in itself) so I can't really complain!

Pretty funny article. I will say there is a general perception of a GW store being for kids, at least that's the comment I've had when I say about painting miniatures. Changed somewhat from the old days when you could only see halfway into the store through lack of light, with long-haired surly-looking people stood in the corner with Iron Maiden or Metallica playing
There is nothing quite like the joy when your good lady plays against somebody else, and stomps their army into the dust using the same tactics that you have used against her.

Our favorites are four player/two sided games, where we can work together. (And stomp the other army into the dust. )

The Auld Grump - right now she is trying to master Goblins while I play Abyss.

Kilkrazy wrote:When I was a young boy all my wargames were narratively based because I played with my toy soldiers and vehicles without the use of any rules.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Same.

But in my wife's case, replace"hair dye and new clothes" with "wine and new cloth diaper prints".
