Competitively speaking, are Tyranids ok? I'm thinking of starting the game with them.  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

A new edition boosting CC would help but without a new, and decent, codex Tyranids will be bad. It is bloated with poor units, making the codex in reality very small. Most units and options are poor even in non-competitive games.

Whether or not GW purposefully makes some armies bad and etc then let them shine sometimes as a business is another story. I don't need to point out the pathetic state of things when you can't expect thousands of dollars in small miniatures to not have gak rules strapped to them.

Space Marines is one of the few armies able to use a model with Toughness 5, 4 Wounds, 2+ armour save, 3+ invulnerable save, 3+ Feel No Pain, It Will not Die and Eternal Warrior in a 12" move body and S8 AP2 Councussive. Ah, and now they have 4 new psychic schools - one of them let them re-roll saves. Yep. Another one lets them move terrain.

What unit is this? Definitely not in my codex. Are you talking ITC approved models?

Also ultramarines tactical doctrines are once per game not every turn. there were a couple other things that stood out but yea.

I think a main problem with tyranids is point cost. They are supposed to be an army where you can out-model any army yet an orc player can easily use significantly more models if you are trying to play competitively. the other issue is even though they give you customizable options, using any other than a essentially golden combo will land you dead in a matter of turns. it makes them SUPER restricted in terms of what they can look like and what you can use. in comparison to a space marine commander, as long as you stay away from a few weapons that are really bad , you can use just about anything.

Hahaha, ok. Rather expensive unit, that, for what amounts to 1 (albeit strong) attack in melee.

Tyranids can't even have their own thread

It's impossible to discuss anything without people complaining about balance, which in turn will shift to a really strong model or unit. Like, the Wraithknight.

As time approaches infinity, the probability that a Wraithknight is mentioned in a thread approaches 1.
