Found a need to build a new army. I present you with more Angels Sanguine:

Spent a lot of bits on these guys. Mostly just because

The army is going to play a lot different from my Sons of Medusa, and thankfully so. Going for a mix of weapons within squads to help deal with different threats. I still need to pick up a Death Company squad but that's really the only other purchase for these guys.

For those who might not have seen them, I've moved my Angels Sanguine Terminator squad into the new Gallery for these guys. The army will follow the colors laid out with them!

Pretty psyched to get these going after thinking about it for so long!

Nice looking jump-packs for these guys.
Looking forward to seeing the army progress.
Question is : Will Dark red be the new green? :-)

Thanks Jakob

I'm hoping they'll take off like my Sons of Medusa did Though if they do, I'll be in the market for a new project log for them! For now though, I'm expecting that this will be much like the Space Wolves, in where I get them complete and they head to the back burner for a while. Though the angels will be double the space wolves point value out the gate!

For those looking to know a little more about the bases and see them without marines on top, I posted a bit about them on The Painting Corps today.

Thanks guys I do hope to keep the variation going throughout whatever additions I make to the force. I'm not sure I'll be adding a lot more past the death company who will make use of weapon variants and possibly a few helmets.

A buddy was bugging me for a WIP shot so I obliged and decided I should share it with everyone to give a little progress report!

Still more to work on the red but it's close. Then the black will go quickly enough and I'll start in on the yellow for the helmets. Note the sanguinor who's finally together in the background! Thanks for that headache GW...

Thanks Ygg's, I'm not sure how 'epic' it will be but I'm hopeful

I've even got ideas on making a display board for these guys.

So far they're one shade darker and I've started highlighting. Only four models in though. After that it's the black side which I hope will go much faster. Then it's blacking out metals and then...well you get the idea..

A lot to go still.

Angels Update:

Armor colors are down!

Still a TON of details to go. I might still go back in on the black side of the armor and touch up the highlights a little. They were washed out almost completely (it was just a Codex Grey highlight) so I'm thinking a few touches here and there would help.

Metals up next. I'm just happy to have gotten this far as fast as I did!

Great work. It's inspiring to see you consistently putting out high-quality mini's.

I've always had a special love for Angels Sanguine but the wifey refused to allow any collection of miniatures named "BLOOD angels" (emphasis her's).

These look like they'll turn out top-notch.

Git, Thanks bud I dig that model as well. I kind of miss this style of wolf scout. The new wolf scout heads don't do enough to change up scouts and make them personalized like these old models. Not that these guys are realized the greatest though. The details get a little cludgy here and there and the poses aren't exactly inspired. I guess that's where the scout plastics are a benefit.

Asylum, Thanks! I'm glad you dig them!

For anyone looking for a little more about these guys, the Reinforcements article went live this morning on TPC!

I do wonder if I should start pulling finished stuff out of here and into the Showcase forum. Thoughts?

Hey g_d, I've never really understood the purpose of the showcase... just figured it was a place for folks to put finished work that didn't want to do a p-log. Does it have another purpose?

Heads can really make or break a figure. While those old one's might not be executed as well as the modern ones... they have a lot of character. Weety's RT blog is filled with great examples of characterful old faces & it's fun to see them.

The showcase is sort of for that. But it's also a good place to put stuff out there for those who aren't really invested in the project log section. It's definitely a more casual experience than digging through p-logs to find the finished stuff.

I think for taking things from your p-log and posting in showcase, you're better off posting army sized things there. This is likely the direction I'll go with posting things from here.

The best part of doing these wolves is that the majority of the army is from the old school models. This was a friends army that he handed over to me when he got out of the game, so it's full of a lot of old stuff that is pre-4th edition. The next squad up for the wolves is a Long Fangs squad full of old 2nd Edition models and weapons. Should help in terms of making the army more effective! But they'll also look really neat, especially for the younger crowd who might not have seen anything like them!

Yeah, my son's Doom Eagle army is mostly made up of my early (1st & 2nd ed) marine stuff. His friends (10-11 yr olds) just love it. Not as sophisticated as the stuff being produced now... but they're quite unusual so the kids really get a kick out of them. My MW have gone in that direction, but that wasn't my original intent. I'd planned on giving all my old stuff to my son & starting a "modern" marine army. Now of course... were *both* collecting the old models.

"Best laid plans" and all that...

Still working on the Angels Sanguine!

Took a little detour with the Sanguinor, but he needs to be painted too!

A lot more to do still all around, but they're slowly plodding along.

Got a game in with them today, though it was against Jin and he's not exactly a 40k player , was fun killing my Sons of Medusa though and getting to know the army a little while giving a re-primer on 40k to him! Fun force to play though and once I remember to use all of my rules they'll be much better.

Ah, nice to see you giving some Sanguine love! I plan on breaking up my BA army (if I every get around to it) with some 'loaner squads' from the lamenters, flesh tearers and angels sanguine to mix things up a bit. Am def loving your reds, you have excellent color selection abilities sir, you get a lot of depth in your primaries without compromising their ability to look 'realistic'. Good job!

Thanks for the replies guys

Tom, going with the lesser seen chapters is the way to roll. I'll be interested in seeing how you tackle them for sure. When it comes to using color, I tend to go super saturated and work my way back using washes and other techniques (like battle damage for the SoM). For this one it was Thraka Green that helped tone the reds just right.

jirc, glad you enjoy the blog! It's a long and winding road from the start to where I am now with it But it's always a fun to bounce from project to project!

Thanks lips. I fully intend to keep this blog up and running for a long time to come. There are just too many small armies on my plate to not

Speaking of the thread, I went back through the pages, there's a lot of stuff not in here, but it definitely lives up to the random nomenclature! Though I do think I've settled in to use this for anything outside of my Sons of Medusa at this point. So any Orks, Warriors of Chaos, Eldar, Angels Sanguine, and Space Wolves stuff will likely be put here.

Ooo..Orks...or maybe eldar? Horses? See, this is why I need a random kitchen sink thread like this!

Ooolllllldddd model from my friends collection I was given some years back. Never thought I'd get around to working on it, but here it is! It randomly caught my interest the other day so I modeled him up on a 40mm I found (a resin one I had to sand down!) and here he is, with his armor done and detail work to come!

Very nice SW Rune priest terminator you have there!! I have a few too.

I hade been considering turning it into a white scar libby as I always imagined that they had similar styling cues for example, stormseers etc.

I am sure youwill do an amazing job of this old and venerable model

I just read through this thread and really enjoyed the ride! I may need to look through some of your other threads sometime. I loved your idea for soaking a McD's bag in water/glue to use as fabric. I'll be trying that next time I need something like that. Your painting is spectacular. I need to start spending less time reading about other's modeling experiences and get back to mine! Thanks for the inspiration!

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.

dantay, I think they might work nicely. Maybe a few less runes? Then you might have to worry about the wolf icons here and there.

Just going to xpost from TPC:

Well, affirming that I can never stay with a single project any longer, I've dug in on a new model that just happened to catch my eye a few days ago.  This Space Wolves Rune Priest is from the way back days of 2nd Edition and comes from the collection of old wolf models my friend handed over to me when he stepped away from the hobby.

There was just something about seeing it in my cases after getting the Wolf Scouts finished up that made me want to give him some table time.  I rummaged through my bases and found a 40mm that I had in resin, unfortunately the base was pre-modeled with details I couldn't use, so I just sanded the top down and pinned the chunk of metal that is an old school terminator to it!

The paint is following my basic scheme for them so far, with the runes being the only real hurdle of thought.  I had considered going with gold for them, but after getting the other gold sections down, and seeing the cool blue/silver that has come from the Mithril Silver being surrounded by all of that Shadow Grey tone, I'm quite happy with how it's looking.  I did give them a quick hit of Badab Black to give them a little additional depth though.
