Word.

Most likely.

I'm on record with saying that the fantastic potential put forward in LEGION has, for the most part, largely been wasted in subsequent efforts by various authors.

I was referring to the limited edition nature of the release, thought you mentioned you were excited about this story, but only if it wasn't limited.

I know I'm disappointed, guess I'll wait until it gets released in normal format in an anthology or whatever in a year or so. Bummer.

If it wasn't for Alan Bligh and Forgeworld, my interest in HH would have wasted away to nothingness about this time last year.

Yeah, as much as BL likes to try the scaremonger routine, the 'Limited Editions' usually last for quite some time.

Maybe when the 'limited edition' the final book in the HH series sometime in 2022 that might change...

Prepare yourself for intrigue and double-crossing duplicity mixed with a healthy dose of good old fashioned Horus Heresy carnage – The Alpha Legion are back.
The Seventh Serpent is a brand new Limited Edition Horus Heresy novella from Graham McNeill. We caught up with Graham to get the lowdown on the new book: watch the full interview in the trailer.

It feels like a long time since a HH full novel has come out.

VISIONS OF WAR – INTERACTIVE EDITION

Hey readers,
Today we take a look at something a bit different.

Visions of War is the first Black Library art book ever to be released as an Interactive Edition. This gorgeous visual feast contains dozens of pieces of Space Marine Battles artwork, depicting humanity's finest at war with their various deadly foes around the galaxy.

The Interactive Edition of the artbook is a great way to enjoy this gallery of works. Not only is each piece shown at its best in high definition, but many also include interactive features, allowing you to pan across, zoom in and explore these highly detailed works like never before.

Our favourite features of the book are the sections that show how the works were created, flowing through the artists stages from sketch to finished piece. Here, for example, you can see the different stages for the cover of Pandorax, and can even see how the composition of the work has evolved as the piece was created (note the disappearance of the watcher in the dark – maybe a Flesh Hound ate him…)

Visions of War is available to download now from iBooks.

We still have a few copies of the original Limited Edition version of this book available too: a perfect Christmas present for any Space Marines fan.

Black Library Advent Calendar 2014 - Day 5

Wraithflight, today’s Advent Calendar entry, brings Guy Haley back to Craftworld Iyanden, once again fighting the voracious tyranids after the events of Valedor. Awesome spaceship battles are joined by a chilling look into the motives of the hive mind. Prepare to be very, very scared.

Iyanna was triumphant again. Fifteen worlds had been denied the ravening hunger of the Starving Dragon by the deployment of the Firehearts, funnelling it away from the eldar towards...
Something was wrong. A sensation at the back of her mind. The sensation grew teeth, became pain.
Her soul was gripped by agony.

That’s all for today.
Thanks for reading.

If you click through to the BL site you'll see the artwork, certainly looks pretty spiffy.

http://www.gollancz.co.uk/2014/12/gollancz-acquires-three-heroic-fantasy-adventures-from-celebrated-multi-media-writer-dan-abnett/

Gollancz is thrilled to announce the acquisition of World Rights excluding USA to a trilogy of self-contained action-packed heroic fantasies from Dan Abnett. A highly talented and prolific writer of novels, computer games and comics, Dan Abnett’s shared world fictions have been set in many universes, including DOCTOR WHO, ALIEN, WARHAMMER and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Gollancz Associate Publisher, Simon Spanton, acquired the three books in THE WIELD series from Charlotte Robertson at United Agents.

Simon Spanton said, “It’s been hard to miss Dan’s contribution to the genre over recent years. He has an amazing and proven knack for finding readers beyond the immediate genre markets so I am really thrilled that he’s joining Gollancz for this venture into his own world; a project where he can give his extraordinary imagination free rein.”

Dan Abnett said, “I’m more than a little pleased to be joining the Gollancz list. In my teens, I quickly learned that the sight of one of their classic yellow-covered editions on the shelf of a library or bookshop was a guarantee of an extraordinary reading experience. THE WIELD is a story I especially want to tell, and I am simply delighted that it is going to be published by the most respected SF and Fantasy imprint in the world.”

The highly original THE WIELD trilogy takes place in a human-populated society with a vivid dark ages culture. Following an ancient and elite band of warriors, THE WIELD books are dynamic heroic fantasy adventures packed with vivid action and bloody battles. The flawed but engaging characters and the enthralling premise with a clever twist, will appeal to readers of Dan Abnett’s bestselling Black Library books, and fans of David Gemmell and dynamic heroic fantasy.

The first book of THE WIELD series will be published in trade paperback and eBook in 2016 with the other two books to follow in 2017 and 2018.

Dan Abnett is a best-selling writer of tie-in novels, original fiction, comics and computer games. He is the author of, amongst many others, the Gaunt’s Ghosts books – Black Library’s most successful line. It was his run on the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY comic that Marvel based the mega-hit movie on. Dan Abnett has also worked in the video game market and scripted the latest Alien game – ALIEN: ISOLATION which has stellar reviews.

After the decimation of his Legion on the killing fields of Isstvan V, the primarch Corax sanctioned an accelerated implantation process to create new Raven Guard – a process subverted in secret by his enemies. But in spite of their horrendous mutations, the warriors of the Raptors still stand ready to do their primarch’s bidding. When a watch-pack of Space Wolves legionaries arrives unannounced, it falls to Lieutenant Navar Hef to greet their warlike kinsmen and decide whether or not they might be hiding flaws of their own

Black Library submissions call – Deathwatch
Attention, servants of the immortal God-Emperor! Charge your mnemo-quills and dust off your data-slates, because Black Library is recruiting once more…

Do you think you have what it takes to write for the exciting worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000? Can you see yourself as the next Dan Abnett, Chris Wraight or David Guymer? Are you able to write creative and engaging prose to the most harrowing of editorial deadlines, while still remaining passionate about the source material? If the answer to these questions is ‘Throne, yes!’ then we want to hear from you.

It’s been a long time since we had a submissions window. While some of you may have sent us your writing in the past, as has been hinted over the past year or so there will be a few key differences to the process from now on.

First of all, we are only looking for short stories featuring the Deathwatch, set in the current Warhammer 40,000 era. You can interpret that in any way you like, as long as the Imperium’s finest xenos hunters are showcased in a manner that fits with the existing background published by Games Workshop.

Secondly, we only need a single paragraph which summarises your idea for a full short story, followed by a sample of your best writing from that story. The sample should be no more than 500 words (and we will be checking!) but should be of sufficiently high quality to engage/excite our editors who will be reading each and every submission.

Finally, you should make your submission by email only, to blacklibrarysubmissions@gwplc.com – please attach your submission as a Microsoft Word document (not Works, not OpenOffice, not RTF or any other weird and wacky file formats) and also copy your single paragraph summary into the covering email. Failure to follow those basic requests will result in your submission being rejected. We cannot confirm receipt of any submission, and we cannot respond to requests for additional information or updates on the process.

The email address will be open from midnight GMT on Monday 8th December to midnight GMT on Monday 26th January. Any submissions that arrive outside of those dates will be automatically rejected by the system.

If we haven’t already crushed your youthful enthusiasm with our weighty word-hammer, then our editors look forward to hearing from you! Death to the xenos!

Couple of releases that may be of interest -- Xmas advent stuff aside.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/mephiston-lord-of-death-novella.html

THE STORY
The Blood Angel once known as Calistarius is no more. In his stead lingers a remnant of that proud scion of Sanguinius. He is a wraith, a dark tale to chill blood, an inscrutable enigma. He is Mephiston, Lord of Death. As Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels Chapter, his powers are formidable, his legend terrifying. Powerful as he is, Mephiston is sorely tested when he descends with his brothers to Pallevon following a rumour about their slain primarch. But there are secrets on this world, secrets that will shake the fabric of everything Mephiston is and challenge his understanding of the darkness lurking within him...

READ IT BECAUSE
Mephiston represents hope for the Blood Angels Chapter: the only warrior to face the Black Rage and emerge from the other side. At the same time, he is a terrifying figure, the very embodiment of death. Perhaps no character better represents the twin aspects of the Blood Angels than Mephiston.

In the aftermath of the war for Hive Helsreach, Black Templars Chaplain Grimaldus receives a unexpected distress call from an old ally. The Celestial Lions Space Marines are being targeted by the Inquisition and have been brought to the brink of extinction. Will they regroup and rebuild, or will they choose to go out in a final blaze of glory? That is what Grimaldus must decide...

READ IT BECAUSE
As if the prospect of Black Templars and Celestial Lions fighting side-by-side against an ork horde wasn't enough, Blood And Fire also shines a light on some of the deep divisions within the Imperium. in the face of such inner turmoil and underhanded treachery, even the zeal of the legendary Grimaldus may not be enough to save his Space Marine allies.

Good to see the price come down for ebooks, that's actually a good price. Hopefully this isn't just an experiment but a concerted effort to lower prices to counter piracy of the ebooks.

I still think they'd be well placed to offer a monthly subscription for the ebooks and audio books as they publish more than enough content to justify it while those who read black library often read a lot of black library. I know I'd subscribe.
