This is something different

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2087444096/pop-up-miniature-terrain-kit

We're producing a kit so you can craft paper pop-up terrain for miniature tabletop wargaming and RPGs!

WHY POP-UP TERRAIN KITS?

Tabletop Terrain is seldom destroyed during play. The real problem is storage and transportation. How to you field enough terrain to populate a 4x8 table and still have room in your dorm to sleep? The answer is Pop-up Terrain! It stores easily and can be taken anywhere. Also, it looks sweet!

The Original Goal will fund the creation of a kit for making five 12" across (14" from furthest corner to furthest corner) hexagonal pop-up settings. Along with simple written & comprehensive video instructions.

Graveyard

Ruins

Gazebo

Engine Works

Outpost

Stretch Goals

MORE COVER (Done)

When we hit $5,500, we'll add 30 sq. inches of bushes, debris, and cargo designs to THE FULL & ASSEMBLED KITS and downloadable PDFs that you can use as additional parts to customize your pop-up terrain settings.

VIKING VILLAGE

Now we've hit $10,000, the VIKING VILLAGE terrain setting will be added to THE FULL & ASSEMBLED KITS and downloadable PDFs. It's base will consist of two 12" across hexagons.

FISH SHACK

Now we've hit $12,500 the FISH SHACK (one tiny setting) will be added to the FULL KIT & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. Three tiny settings fit into the space occupied by a single regular hex setting. It's the ideal place to buy really flat fantasy fish!

Now we've hit $15,000 the HEDGE ROWS will be added to the FULL KIT & ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. The hedge rows will be on a single hex. This will be a sparsely filled shrubby terrain. Quick! Someone tell Edward about this, I think his hands (scissors?) were getting a bit rusty!

No we've hit $17,500 the ROCKY FIELD will be added to the FULL KIT & ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. The rocky field will be on a single hex. This terrain will have rocky outcroppings & open space. Perfect for fighting skill against skill alone, just ask the man in black.

protype

Now we've hit $20,000 the FOREST will be added to the FULL KIT & ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. The Forest will be on a single hex. Nothing bad has ever happened in a Forest, right? I mean it's just full of cute singing woodland creatures, right?

prototype

Now we've hit $27500, LONG LONESOME HIGHWAY will be added to the FULL KIT, ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. Long lonesome highway includes several flat road features that can be used to customize your settings.

Now we've hit $30000, BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS will be added to the FULL KIT, ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. Bridge over troubled waters will include several flat water features that you can either permanently add to your settings or throw them down and pick them up as you see fit. It will also include a mini setting foot bridge that has a river running under that is designed to be used with the water features.

next

When we hit $32,500, ON TARGET! will be added to the FULL KIT, ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. On target! has objective markers & target dummies (insert eyebrow raise), both that can be added to you pop-up or just be collapsable card stock gaming fun! They use slot-together technology. Oooh Ahhh Shiny!

When we hit $35,000, THE PLAYING FIELD will be added to the FULL KIT, ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. It will be completely flat (it will have textures on it) and won't even be intended to pop-up! Just a cool empty space, so that you don't have to have weird table space in-between your hexes

could be useful if you either tend to wargame at a variety of locations, some without decent terrain, or play RPGs and tend not to bother with terrain as it's too difficult to store

Stonehaven have run 3 successful (and timely) KS projects for minis so are reliable although this is slightly different I'd say they were a good bet to deliver cool stuff on time

NOTE: Grid overlays are promised as something that will be available on the pdfs (not the printed sets as far as I can tell) so if you had to have htem they are available

That's a really neat idea.
I wouldn't us it in regular games, but would love to see it integrated into a boardgame or similar. Call it "Pen and Paper", and make it an awesome dungeon crawl adventure thing. Somebody do this!

It's pretty neat.

Having a bunch of those papercraft buildings that have gone on sale for a buck in the past, these would mesh nicely with them... other than the fact that they aren't in color.

Even that isn't much of a big deal, considering you can pledge to have them print the stuff off for you. This has been my biggest gripe with the paper terrain- having to print it all myself! On the other hand, I guess you could grab your crayons and go to town on it!

Stretch goals are interesting too. Scatter terrain and a village if funding gets high enough.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Unfortunately, I already have ridiculous amounts of terrain, so it is of little use to me, but still a very cool idea.

These look really good. I might try to get someone else from my local game group to chip in on a set.

I backed for the $15 PDF level. I have enjoyed assembling the stuff I got from Fat Dragon and Dave Graffam, and these will make a nice change from all the cubes I have put together so far.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

I'm in. Although I hope they are planning on letter sized for the PDFs instead of their 12inx18in

That's a good point. My printer at home can't handle paper bigger than A4.

I wouldn't object to a colored version as well, but these look fairly easy to color or paint.

The unpainted look is actually strangely appealing... I almost want to pick some up and match them with some monochrome-painted zombies or vampires or something for a horror-skirmish game.

Or do some Sin City-themed Necromunda.

It really is!
I'm thinking sepia toned RedBox miniatures minis, maybe with some spot colour for effect. There's something that really grabs me there even though I have no other use for these.

Oh wow, thanks guys. Now I totally know how I'm going to paint up all my Bones.

Seriously.

Probably.

Either way on topic, these are pretty cool, but are they really requiring 12" by 18"? That seems so...Odd to me. How many people have printers that can do that in their homes?

Well, they are printing on 12 x 18. I assume they will be smart enough to reformat the files for printing at home. In any case I did ask for them to clarify that on the KS page already.

None of the individual pieces look big enough to require larger than legal size paper to print on. With the possible exception that they did the floor tile as one image. In that case it shouldn't be too much trouble to divide that bid floor tile into halves, or quarters, as needed.

Got word back from StoneHaven, PDF will include BOTH 12x18 and 8.5x11 formats

First stretch goal met. Added 30 sq. inches of bushes, debris, and cargo designs to THE FULL & ASSEMBLED KITS and downloadable PDFs that you can use as additional parts to customize your pop-up terrain settings.

Next Goal $10,000

When we hit $10,000, the VIKING VILLAGE terrain setting will be added to THE FULL & ASSEMBLED KITS and downloadable PDFs. It's base will consist of two 12" across hexagons.

Prototype picture only. Actual Setting will (probably) not be in the colors of the Minnesota Vikings and will instead be covered in awesome detailed textures. The models shown are based on 65mm and 25mm bases. Awesome Minis are not included.

We should have some snippets of what the textures will look like in the next little while.

Backers you are wonderful! Please keep telling everyone how incredibly awesome these are!

Colored versions would be nice since the ones buying this would be looking for plug and play type of thing. Me myself I like the not-colored versions since it reinforces then pen and paper feel for RPGs, but I'm guessing a lot of people would rather have them colored.

Alex - ever gotten a book mailed from the US? $15 shipping these days is pretty on the money, or even cheap (unfortunately). Try mailing a book from your city to Melb or Sydney and see how much it costs....

Ummm... dwarfs can get drunk anywhere! (Seriously... trapped on a desert island, with only a coconut palm for company... a dwarf will find a way to ferment coconut milk in the shell, and get drunk.... )

Looking nice, so far.

The ability to fold flat like a concertina card is... a neat feature - I have a lot paper terrain, some can be disassembled for storage, some can be partially disassembled and flattened... but having entire scenes folded up?

That's a new one!

Next stretch Goal, Fish Shack

I bumped up from PDF to Printed pledge.

The first 5 models are 2, 10x18, sheets each.
The viking village will be at least that, if not more.
The stretch goal will add ?

So at least 12 sheets of 10 x18, which would translate into at least twice as many 8.5 x 11 sheets..

Too much for me to bother with trying to print matched up doublesided prints on my printer.

That, and I hope we keep getting more stretch goals added

A Little Bit Further Down the Road!

When we hit $15,000 the HEDGE ROWS will be added to the FULL KIT & ASSEMBLED KITS & DOWNLOADABLE PDFs. The hedge rows will be on a single hex. This will be a sparsely filled shrubby terrain. Quick! Someone tell Edward about this, I think his hands (scissors?) were getting a bit rusty!

A Few Things!
We should have some detail examples of the textures for the fish shack for you tomorrow in the update.

We are not planning on adding add-ons or making you pledge more to get everything we make during this project. This means that everything from the stretch goals will be added directly to the PDFs, FULL KIT (x2 too), & ASSEMBLED KIT. This also means the fastest way to meet the stretch goals is through spreading the word all over the internet and then strong arming all your friends to pledge to this project! Yay! Friendship!

I am a real fan of their art style, and these folks are good people besides.

They KNOW how to run a project, and their quality figures is top drawer.

Got in on the dwarfs, and the gnomes, but didn't get in on the others.

THIS project looks like a ten pound bag of fun in a five pound bag.

Great idea, and I can really see a good use for all of this stuff.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book.
