So did anyone else get into the beta? I'm just quite confused by the beta at times since it seems to differ from the TTG in quite a lot of ways

Warmachine Tactics is not supposed to be a direct representation of the TTG, its just a TBS like XCom.

And I didn't get into the beta, I thought that my pledge level included the early beta, but when I went to check yesterday I realised that it didn't... doh!

What levels included the beta? For those of us who fail at tables.

edit: I'm pretty sure I should get it, I got the warcaster adept. How do you get to download it? I haven't got any emails or anything...

It does a bit, quite understandable. I know when I was watching a demo video of the beta that came out recently, I was thinking how similar it was on it's face, and yet then those differences pop up and throw you. I think I'll be alright with it, but it might just take me a while to shed my preconceptions that are tied to the table-top game, and separate the gameplay experiences completely in my head, despite the similarities. Easier said than done, of course.

Got it downloaded, but keeps crashing my Video Card. I think my laptop may not be up to snuff. Have to run the diagnostic Whitemoon sent me.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

It's on Steam. You should receive an email from Kickstarter with the product code.

Mine came a lot later than some others.

They're sending out the codes in batches of 500 because more would raise some internet red flags/swamp the servers with downloads.

I must say the game feels VERY beta. Like more of a playable alpha build. Lots of place holders. Frame rate chugging. Weird graphic hues. Unclear interface. Stats missing. Unclear mechanics.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm still looking forward to it and it has a great chance to be a good game, but right now it still needs a lot of work to be a true beta.

Fair few people reporting low frame rates, but generally in the choppy but playable 15-20 range, 1-3 fps is definitely unplayable. Probably report it to the devs (white moon dreams), to let them know there's a possible glitch for you.

The game "plays" like xcom as a video game...but has the same feel as the table top. It's a very good representation of a table top game brought to video game. GW needs to take notes.

I always though the (new) X-COM had a very table-top feel. Really you could probably port the whole thing very easily to minis on a grid, with d100s and barely have to change a single mechanic to have it run smoothly & intuitively. I hear they even tested that way.

^ The multiplayer mode where you can build your army and each unit has a points value sure put me in mind of a tabletop system.

Anyway, here's a comic that popped up on my facebook about the game. I thought some of you might appreciate it.

There will be a story mode single player campaign in the final game, I doubt that it will be present in the beta though.

The beta test is mostly about checking the multiplayer aspects if the game, which is a bit unfortunate. I missed my chance to get in on the beta, but I'm still pretty confident this game is going to be amazing.

I'm a bit worried about this project. They are really optimistic about the release date and spouting nonsense like "nearing it's completion" while from what I can tell it's actually an alpha that barely made the step up from a tech-demo. Beta should basically be optimizations and some content left with all the important stuff like functionality and interface in functional order. There's degrees of beta, of course, but that thing? No, alpha at best.

 motyak wrote:

Well, I can see motyak has it running, but since I only recently bothered to actually read sufficient information to inform myself why I didn't get the beta key - who knows, maybe someone else made my mistake? - if you backed with $65 or more you got beta (or $85 in case you went all-physical rewards initially)

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Its safe to say they have progressed farther than what has been released to the public.

The fact it doesn't have any crashing problems, only some abilities are still buggy I'd say its actually pretty close to being done.

The stuff they have given is almost complete.
