I was looking at this older thread

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/545728.page

and there seemed to be a lot of molding problems with detail loss and all that. Has anyone bought a recent starter set? Does the same problems and assembly difficulty still exist?

I am thinking of getting it but the things mentioned in the older thread seem daunting. I'm not an experienced modeler by any definition.

I don't know about the starter set, but I bought a couple of the the heavy vector kits that comes with it a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a marked improvement from the first ones that I had bought when the faction came out. It required a lot less cleaning / prep time and had almost no visible mold lines.

But that might have been just a fluke...

Maybe I should try that first. But then again, the starter set is rather good value. Caster, 1 heavy and 2 lights for a good price. Add a corollary and mabe an Optifex, it should be ok to start gaming.

The other thing I thought about was to get a heavy as well, so that I would know how to magnetise the heavy that came with the starter. From what I can see, the starter only allows the Cipher config.

Ehhhhhh... perhaps by degrees?

The hovers are alright, and the resin/metal kits are great. I like the general look of the faction enough to suck it up, but I can certainly understand someone wanting to wait until PP gets their plastic in a better place. It's probably my only major problem with the game right now, and it's a big one.

My experience is that the first few plastic kits of any new release are sometimes questionable. But if you get a later plastic box they seem to be pretty good.

Frankly, though. I always expect some flash and other stuff with models. I haven't found other models ranges to really be any better or worse on a consistent basis.

There is a thread going on the PP forum currently about the plastic quality. It's still up and down, but it seems the newer kits don't have the ridiculous molding issues as the CoC starter did.

I would love to see pics if anyone gets one. It seems weird proxying robots using my werewolves.

I hope to get it soon. If I manage to, I'll try to post some Picts.
