Subject: Plastic Toy Advertising Follies (Resin and Metal, too)
Okay, given that everyone seems to need to hate GW, PP, Wyrd, or whichever KS has failed to deliver after a year, I thought it might be fun to make a "follies" thread for them. And yet, I don't want this to devolve into a hater/white knight whinefest nor do I want this to be a "bad miniatures showoff" thread. Those have been done already. No, the purpose of this thread is to mock the sales and advertising efforts of our favorite miniatures companies. If you find some bit of sales or advertising effort that is so bad it's funny, go ahead and show it here.
I'll start.
Spoiler:
Ladies and gentlemen! Step right up. The first item up for sale today is a Space Marine Bike Squadron. Yes! I give you today not two, not three, but ONE single solitary Space Marine bike copied three times and pasted up in different sizes to create a false perspective. But that's not all, folks! Take a gander at those [/i]lovely[/i] twin-linked bolters carefully set into the front of those that bike. You'll search far and wide to find the like. Now I know what you're saying. You think it's just a shoddy assembly job - but it's not!! Those bolters are hardwired into the Space Marine's targeting system and follow his gaze as he studiously examines his controls sets to killing 'Gaunts, Grots, and Squats. Being ambidextrous, the Space Marine has the ability to keep one eye on the controls and one eye on the target at all times. True story, folks. I would not lie to you. But, wait! There's more. Look carefully at those bikes and you'll notice that they are not really mounted on those bases. It's true, folks! The bike and base are separate pictures that have been cleverly photoshopped together to give you the sense of drama and excitement as you let loose your imagination about how you plan to purchase, build, and paint your own bikes.

Ahahah, bit slack there on GWs part. I was looking at Baneblades last night *shifty look* and noticed all the IG super heavies based on that chassis were either shooped or magnetised. The same hull was used for all of them, with just the top being different. Magnetising is fine and I didn't think it "bad" as such, but it was noticeable they were all the same rather than different.
Shadowsword, Banehammer. Emphasising: not bad so much as noticeable for advertising. This is even my recommended practice for the kit. --- One Mantic has done that they later retracted was to include a ruined "Games Workshop" sign on their terrain in the characteristic style during the kickstarter for their Mars Attacks game. The advertising folly bit comes in with them retracting it by shooping it out or removing the image (I forget) later in the campaign. First result for "Mars Attacks terrain" on google image search however:

There is, of course, the ever popular picture of the Lightning Claws sold by GW. The same set of bent and/or stuck together claws copied five times.
Spoiler:
Oh, and here's another one: You can preorder a three-pack of GW Imperial Knights for $420 to be shipped this weekend.
Or you can buy them individually right now for a total price of....$420.

Ack Ack
Whenever I see that manic picture it reminds me of this
There's always the classic Baneblade with the broken track. GW put all that work into a shiny new website and they still can't even fix their tank!
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I present you the pinnacle of imperial technology, the ultimate gunship. People, who assembled it definitely knew what they were doing and every part is exactly on its place.
The Bolter is particularly annoying because they made port and starboard ones so that the ejection port can always face outwards (or inwards if you want).
I think the first run of the recut Leman Russ boxes had the hull Heavy Bolter upside down.
Yes I did have a quick look for that one but sadly couldn't find it.
Pretty funny - photo on the front of the box with the heavy bolter upside down, shows exactly how much effort goes into the presentation of those things.

I can't believe they still haven't fixed that Baneblade... (or at least re-photographed it!)
