My wife loves pirates and wants to get in to Warmachine with me. She has been staring at the Talion Charter. Since we are both new to the game, and I've chosen Menoth (One half of the two player battle box), what do you suggest she picks up to fill out a Talion Charter Battlegroup and where would you direct us to expand that to a two player battle box size army (I'm guessing that it's 25 pts?)

Thanks!

Two player battle boxes are 21 pts(Menoth) and 20 pts(Khador).

There is already a Talion Charter Battle Box in the Journeyman League PDF: Broadsides Bart, Mariner, Freebooter, and Buccaneer.

I'd suggest upping the Menoth half of the 2-player to 25 with a min Choir and Vassal then start her off with the Bart "Battle Box", a min unit of Press Gangers, a min unit of Sea Dogs, and any two of the following: First Mate Hawk, Doc Killingsworth, Mr. Walls, and Bosun Grogspar. I'd most suggest Hawk and Killingsworth, but the Bosun's ability to prevent Knockdown is useful, too.

I would suggest picking up the Forces of Warmachine: Mercenaries book. It has all the models that can be used in the Talion charter with the exception of Vengeance, collossals and Wrath. Most of the Pirate models were out a long time before those three books anyway.

The cheapest way to find all the models and get an army builder would be to download the WarRoom app and purchase the Mercenaries faction. From that point on you will get all the updates as new models are released. Also, in the army builder, you can build an army that is legal for the Talion charter (some of the contracts can be confusing).

I suggest you the site BattleCollege.com for more informaiton about Warmachine and Hordes. It's some sort of Wiki explaining in detail all miniatures of the game.

I must mention that Battlecollege, though a fair source of knowledge, can be a bit behind when it comes to rules updates and such. It's good for general reference, but take it with a grain of salt.

Platuan is right: Hit the battlebox for her. And it's so fluffy for pirates that it's not funny. Later, if she feels froggy about it, you can get your hands on Shae, and most of your models will still apply fairly well.

Thanks all for the advice. I'm going to start up with Platuan's suggestions.

It's one of the Mercenary Contracts(Mercs can't just bring whatever they want like other factions). It restricts you to the Pirate models and the new Journeyman, gives you access to Shae(and thus the Commodore), and lets you use any non-Rhul Merc Jacks.

Are they kind of like the themes for the other armies? Also, what do you need in order to field minions/mercs in another faction's army?

They are not like Tier lists. Mercs get Tiers and Contracts and you choose to play one or the other. They're more like sub-Factions.

For fielding Mercs/Minions in another faction, the model's card has to say that it works for that faction.
