This is probably a question asked and answered more than once and I hate to post it yet again (but I cannot seem to locate a thread pertaining to it). Coming from Warhammer 40k and Fantasy, I would need the core rule book AND the codex/army book for my army. I see that Warmahordes has an army book and faction books. Do I need the faction book as well as the rule book? Will it have all the units stats etc to help with list building or is it mainly fluff?

If you want the fluff, it's worth the purchase.personally, I would.

But no, you dont need to buy it - all the boxes come with the cards for the units they contain.

Pp don't really do codexes in the gw sense. Those 'forces of war(faction) are the closest thing we have, but are a bit different. In the update from mk1 to mk2 a lot of unit profiles were updated, and the forces of... Books allowed pp to easily publish all the up-to-then changes in a single publication for each faction (and push the storyline forward!). However, pp release expansion books fir their games periodically, where every faction gets new stuff simultaneously. These new releases are in the expansion books.

WhAt is a very good purchase is the pp war room app. You can buy the 'faction deck' of your faction for a few quid, and it gets automatically updated whenever a new model is released for that faction. And of course, the physical model will also come with its cards.

So yeah - all you 'need' is the rulebook. Seriously think about war room. And if the fancy takes you, invest in the rest.

You definitely don't need the army book because the rules come on cards included with the miniature. The army book is useful if you want to plan what stuff you'll buy and have their stats available. I don't own the army book and I'm fine.

I have War Room downloaded and have just been messing with the free content here and there to get an idea of things. The past few days it has seemed pretty glitchy but not sure. Do tournaments recognize War Room for tournament play or is that more dependent on the tournament?

You can use Warroom in tournaments, but Warmachine is an open information game, where you have you to show your opponent your cards/rules if they ask to see them. So if you're using Warroom you'll be required to pass over your device and let them manhandle it; also if you're playing a game in a tournament, using Warroom, you don't have your cards, and your device dies, you lose the game.

So yes you can use Warroom in a tournament, but it's a little risky.

I would probably bring the cards as back up in case the device dies. When I show my opponent my list, is it typically just printed on paper, the cards I will be using, both?

War Room is perfectly fine for tournaments, but if you are on an Android device that's already long in the tooth it can be a bit slow. It's worked out of rme of late though.

At tournaments you typically have your lists on your tournament sheet which lists your wins and losses and such. When I play I use War Room primarily, have cards on hand if folks want to look at anything quickly, and the army list is about because, well, it is about. Any card details from there are pretty easy to check on and things like that with what amounts to mulitple copies (which actually is nice for things like sharing information but letting you still see your cards on the tablet).

And stuff.

I've got a brand new Droid and it still runs slow and crashes half the time. It's definitely not about the age of the phone. I'd NEVER use the thing for a tournament.

I've never had any issues with mine.

I rather use cards though at a tourney. (A) I'm unashamedly old school, and (b) no way I'm bringing an expensive piece of kit like a tablet around to be nicked.

There are a lot of versions of Android used with a wide variety of phones and brands, which makes it a bit more prone to stability problems with various apps. Most phones it'll work fine on, though I tend to use it only as a card reference and list builder, and wouldn't use it during a tournament myself, just on the off chance there was an issue (and because physical cards are much easier to share).

I've also used War Room successfully using Blue Stacks (an android emulator) on the computer, so that's an option if you have issues with it on another device.

Looking for a club in Brisbane, Australia? Come and enjoy a game and a beer at Pubhammer, our friendly club in a pub at the Junction pub in Annerley (opposite Ace Comics), Sunday nights from 6:30. All brisbanites welcome, don't wait, check out our Club Page on Facebook group for details or to organize a game. We play all sorts of board and war games, so hit us up if you're interested.

Pubhammer is Moving! Starting from the 25th of May we'll be gaming at The Junction pub (AKA The Muddy Farmer), opposite Ace Comics & Games in Annerley! Still Sunday nights from 6:30 in the Function room Come along and play Warmachine, 40k, boardgames or anything else!

I have a first-generation iPad and War Room tends to crash on it after a while. It seems to be related to the time it's been running or the usage. Maybe it's leaking memory or something. I'd try restarting the app before trying to use it in a game, and I think that would work out okay. Personally, I just stick with the cards and save War Room for looking up cards or the rules reference, though it's good if you want to proxy something to try it out.

War Room is a fairly ineffeciently programmed app and so will tend to crash if you push it wrong. No clue on a Droid phone, but I note tablets for a reason. I think using the interface on a smaller phone seems like asking for headaches wiht how small things are.

I use it on a first-generation Nexus 7 tablet and while slow at first, it has improved greatly in general stability. It can lag a bit on first boot, but tends to do the job it needs to most of the time and in a format that at least for me is much easier to read. I forgot my tablet home a week or so ago and found myself reliving the headache of losing cards constantly and generally tracking things about.

And stuff.
