So we're playing a progressing league and after two weeks at 15 points we're moving up to 25 points. for next weeks games. I've already bought the models I need to make the points jump, but I want advice on how to use the list.

Kara (+6) [25 points]
-Defender (-9)
-Hunter (-6)
-Hunter (-6)

B14 (-4)
P. Eiyrss (-3)
Squire (-2)
Reinholdt (-1)

I know it's super squishy and lacking in any sort of tar pit. I'm used to squishy and after losing most of my matches in the first two weeks (but improving each game) I feel like I'm starting to understand how to position myself. There are still some models, spells, and tactics I have no clue about, but my local players are awesome and more than willing to help me out. Still, I figure that Dakka tends to have some idea what's up so I open the floor to advice from fellow Warnouns.

Well, with regards to models, spells and tactics you have no clue about, do you know any particular casters you might run up against that you have no experience against? You know, bob at the store is a well feared player of X warnoun, but he hasn't busted X out yet in the league, but he plans to now. Or something like that?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

We have literally every faction except mercs and CoC covered and 23 players that can make almost every Tuesday gaming night and more that drop in every so often.

Well then, that's....an amazing store. It just sounds absolutely brilliant!

Well can you tell us which spells/models etc you have no clue how to deal with in particular? Is it snipe-feat-go feats like Ravyn and eLylyth? Trololol good luck damaging me feats like pStryker? You wanted to advance? Really? feats like Harby, eHaley and eDenny?

Is it 'mountain of flesh' Grissel lists, unending tide of doomreavers, titans ahoy, xerxis medium base infantry horde, something like that?

Give us some direction so we can help

Are you playing Steamroller or just kill the caster/kill 'em all?

I'd consider dropping one of the Hunters for a Minuteman. Cygnar was my first faction, I even ran Kara for my first Journeyman League and I was nevera big fan of Hunters,

For damage output when compared to a Defender they are not more effective unless you're shooting ARM20+ large base models. Whilst Minutemen are better against all Small and Medium based models, and against Large Base models at ARM16 or lower.

Sure the Hunter has a longer Leash, but after Turn 2 this doesn't matter as much.

Whilst the Minutman has much more flexibility, and absolutely wrecks infantry. Walk up, activate jump pack and get placed 5" behind the enemy line right next to their key solos/UA, and puts a pretty good auto-hitting damage roll into all models in B2B contact, and then effective blast damage to everything within 2". Then you can put two POW14 shots into whatever survived the initial Flak Field. Plus it's a point cheaper.

25 points is kind of an awkward amount. You can buy some stuff but not everything. And if you spend too much in one area another suffers.

IMO you need a troop unit of some sort. You have too many jacks for 25 points. And alot of points in support as well. I'd probably drop a Hunter or two and/or Eiryss and get a unit of some kind.

12 points will easily get you a unit of precursors or boomhowlers.

But definitely drop a jack. Even at higher point levels 3 is alot. I'm not super knowledgeable about Sloan but I don't think she had the focus and support for herself AND 3 jacks.

I can't drop any jacks because our 15 point lists can only be jacks and we can only add 10 points to that list going into weeks 3 and 4 of the event. It's designed to get people to play fun lists and enjoy a few derpy games.

I can't drop anything and the hunters have honestly done work for me given the jack heavy meta that the rules have created.

Target priority for your Jacks. Don't split you fire over multiple targets for your Hunters unless you are going after medium based infantry.

Don't be afraid of Ryan firing off speculative Mage Storm shots either.

Make sure Refuge is cast on Kara and upkept from turn 1

One option is to have Eiryss on one flank and Black 13th on the other

Jack heavy? Why not add in some disrupting stormcallers?

Played tonight, got three games in. Went 1-2-0 but the last could have been a draw if I felt like being an ass. Wins don't matter though as you get full points for games played and wins only go for best general.

The first two weeks were played using the Hardcore Deathmatch scenario. Thankfully this week's scenario was less bad for my army being Balance of Power.

My first game, and my only win, was pretty much a mirror match, the main difference is that he went with Sword Knights instead of Eiryss and Reinholdt. He tried to get a little too close wanting to take the objective early, and I shot out one knight from his wall and pasted his caster.

The next game, this was close and could have been a win if I'd played just a bit better. Had me up against a Skorne player.

I think his list was like this:

Supreme Archdomina Makeda
-Molik Karn
-Bronze Back

Nihilators
Paingivers
Swamp Gobbers

Anyway, Molik went down to an early feat after he didn't realize that Hunters have parry. Unfortunately I underestimated how far his Bronzeback could charge and the lost me most of my Defender's systems that turn and the death of the Defender and one of my hunters the next turn. His Nihilators were then free to charge up a flank unopposed. I could have won if I had held the B13 back a bit more and used them to plink off the Nihilators for an extra turn. As it was it was close with me killing all of his warbeats and losing due to scenario.

Game three was against an Everblight player.

His list was:

Thagrosh
-Carnivion
-Scythean

Warspears + Cheiftan

This one was my last game and we hit time, but after his Scythean came back and his warspears had killed off the B13 and were putting the heat on Kara it wasn't looking like a win. This was a list I needed a tarpit unit for and at 25 points it isn't one of the tools I have yet.

When we go up to 35 points I'm adding Boomhowler and Co and that should make a huge difference.

To be fair even with Boomhowlers you would have struggled as the Scythean has Take Down so their 4+ Tough wouldn't help.

They would have tied up the warspears and let me castle up a bit more so I couldn't be picked off.

So we're growing from the 25pt. level next week and I need to figure out what models I'd like to add. Thus far I'm thinking of making few changes to my 25 point list and going with the following at 35pts.

Slow Grow - 35pts.

Kara Sloan (+6)
-Hunter (-6)
-Defender (-9)
-Hunter (-6)

Boomhowler and Co. (-6)
B13 (-4)

Squire (-2)
Gobber Reinholdt (-1)
eEiyrss (-3)
Gorman (-2)
Arlan (-2)

The changes made are as follows eEiyrss in for pEiyrss. The additions are Boomhowler and Co. to add a tarpit and then Arlan and Gorman add utility.

Slow Grow - 50pts.

Kara Sloan (+6)
-Hunter (-6)
-Defender (-9)
-Hunter (-6)

Forge Guard (-8)
Boomhowler and Co. (-9)
B13 (-4)

Squire (-2)
Gobber Reinholdt (-1)
eEiyrss (-3)
Gorman (-2)
Arlan (-2)
Rhupert (-2)

No changes can be made between 35pts. and 50pts. but I can top up Boomhowler's unit, and add Forgeguard and Rhupert to either help Boomhowler tank or to hold another flank.
