I know orks are all about conversions, but I have never done any myself. I have 3 assembled killa kans that I built during 5th edition. If I recall they have an assortment of weapons. It was back when I was new and just built what looked cool, or what I wanted to try. So mu currently built ones may not be very good in a game anyway. Fast forward to today and I got my hands on a stormclaw boxed set which also comes with 3 killa kans. Now I've heard kill kans got a bit of a nerf in the new dex, but my orks are more for fun than for competitive. But that being said, winning is fun too right? I know everybody seems to be liking the mek guns, and I picked up one to at least have 1 legit one, to see size and all that. Haven't assembled it yet though.

So my question is, should I build the kans from the stormclaw set as kans to go along with the other 3 I have, or can I use them as a starting point for a conversion to mek guns? Thanks

I love the look of 'kans and personally would be loathed to build them as anything not-stompy.

That being said you could probably make a decent Mek-gun turret out of 'em. Don't build the legs on them and find a way to mount a gun on where the kan's face would be. Stick the body-gun on its base and use the parts from the limbs to make some sort of brace/turntable base and walla! It goes from walker to gun emplacement.

It might be interesting to see if you can build a Kan to walk on all fours and have the gun strapped to its back. (Think a Tyranid Pyrovore or soch) If you can get it to look right, it could be an interesting conversion, but for what it's worth, I think the Kans are still damn good. Despite the my initial impressions, the "nerf" was just a points increase (or not) depending on what weapons you put on it (Only 10 points more at worst) and a "moral" type test for the vehicles. They're still worth it though, in my opinion.

You left out the worst nerf in my opinion: their melee weapon went from S10 to S7. They were (and still are) easy to tarpit, but before they could keep vehicles out of their threat radius.

If they have any use now, numbers are the key. They can have up to 6 in a squad now. I don't have the models to test it, but it seems to me that a dread mob featuring a Morkanaut and full Kan units could be a threat through target saturation.
