Hey guys, I'll be exceedingly vague with the set up here as I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but I heard from a very trusted source that GW is working on some sort of project x that is due out around the end of September. The guy has no idea what it is - could be WHFB 9th edition, could be a stand alone.
I've been snooping around the interwebz and I didn't see anything about a big GW rumored release for late Q3/early "Q4, so I wanted to pop in here and see if any of you all had heard anything.
Really hoping it's a new standalone... Maybe a Warhammer Quest update or a BFG... Quest would make the oodles of money and might serve to breathe life back into fantasy. Were they to pop that plus a 9th edition in 2015 (bretonnia vs beast men starter set) I think that would be a great play on their part.

I'd hope for a BFG relaunch with a complete plastic line up for all the factions.
I know it won't happen, but I'm still hoping. Just like I hope to win the lottery.
As for 'Project X' (cue super villain music and lightning), I'll believe whatever it may turn out to be (if anything at all) when I see it on their store.

Is 'Project X' not what GW have been calling the seminars about their most recent releases, I'm almost certain there was a 'Project X' seminar at the recent 40k open day talking about Sanctus Reach, so it could just be about their most recent release at that time. Plus Warhammerfest is at the start of October so that might be what your source was talking about.

Almost definitely.
Or it's the annual "theres a gap in the rumours, it must be the relaunch of X" rumour we get every year for Sept/Oct/Nov.
Sadly.

'Project X' is the name of the GW seminars where they talk about recent releases (not upcoming).

Project X was what they were calling the seminar for the new campaign before the campaign's name was officially released.
