So, I dug myself into a deep hole of pain when I decided to paint a 1850pt Tau army in just 4 weeks for my first tournament. However, things started looking up when I was able to get these two beasts done within 14 hours!.. There may be hope for me finishing the rest of the army yet.

Please enjoy what you see. I'll continue to post new pics as i make progress over the next few weeks.. Wish me luck!!

I used some cork tiles and broke them into pieces.. you can get cork tiles from most hardware stores

They don't look like cork, that is why I asked. Usually, they have a distinct pattern on top. Did you do anything to eliminate that and make them look like asphalt?

No actually, I didn't modify the cork at all. This is how they came. I think if you get cork tiles made for flooring, like I did, you get smoother tiles. You can get cork sheets made for pin boards which have a rougher surface

Cheers!

Ah, that is the difference. I am going to start looking for that, because it looks just so, so much better than cork for pin boards.

Thanks!

Good job on the painting. One thing you can do to improve your final product is to "sand" out the parts of the models that are glues together. They aren't "mold" lines, but when put together it forms a "line" right down your pretty work.

Definitely love the color scheme, and the slight weathering is really a great look. My only gripe is the OSL, I find myself saying this more and more (I am not a golden demon painter by any means), it's just a bit exaggerated for how the light would travel, and just appears over airbrushed to my eyes.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

Thanks for your input. I was actually very aware of mould lines and the construction lines as I built and painted these models. However I (frustratingly) had to ignore them as I have a very VERY short amount of time to get this entire army painted for the tournament. thanks again, though, for your advice

Thank you to you all for your awesome comments

Here are a couple of snaps of the infantry I frantically painted up and finished the night before the tournament.
10 pathfinders and 22 fire warriors. Individually they aren't great but together I think they work really well.

So here is the army put together on display at the tournament. I ended up winning 1st place for best painted army. There was certainly some great competition there so well don't to them too. All in all it was a fun day. It was my first tournament and I'll definitely be going to more in the future. I ended up with two bad losses and two convincing wins.

Painting this army in less than 4 weeks was definitely a challenge and testes me quit a bit but I'm very happy with the results
Thanks to you all for your great compliments and criticisms. Couldn't have done it without you.

They look great except the OSL. I can understand it sort of on the suits as they are nothing more than sensors and not an actual head. On the Devilfiah though, if the driver has his interior lights on so bright it is coming out, how can he see where he is going. Ditto on the FW helms. They don't want to be noticed, not stick out like sore thumbs in dim lighting. On that note the sensors really wouldn't be lit up either as they should be receiving wavelengths of light not sending it out and broadcasting where they are. Maybe a shiny polarized look over the sensors, but OSL doesn't belong there.

Other than that they look great, excellent weathering, and the basing is awesome!
