Hi there. This is my 1st list for my 1st ever game of WHFB and Wood elves. I have played 40k for a while but was desperate to get into WHFB. Just to mention that I am not necessarily trying to be competitive, I picked Wood Elves purely because I love the models and I like their background etc. I am looking forward to playing this army and I have no doubt I will struggle to begin with but, hey, Im in it for the fun and the hobby side of things mostly.
Spellweaver: level 4, dispel scroll, talisman of endurance - 275
Waystalker: bow of loren - 110
Glade guard x15: full command, lichebone pennant, trueflight arrows (spellweaver in here) - 270
Dryads x12 - 132
Glade riders x5: full command, banner of swiftness, hagbane tips - 155
Deepwood scouts x8: master scout, hagbane tips - 138
waywatchers x6 - 120
1200 points on the nose. My biggest dilemma is picking which magic lore for my spellweaver. I initially thought shadow as the withering will help me loads, but I am now more leaning towards Life, as in theory it will prolong the life of my units. I would like to get 2 spellcasters to take 2 lores but I am saving that for larger games. Plus, these are more or less all the models I currently have (besides another 11 glade riders).
Any advice/criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance : )

Welcome to Wood Elves
First off, personally, i have found the Waystalker to be a little lackluster. Remember, multiple shots doesn't stack, so you are paying 110pts for 2 BS 7 Str 3 ignore armour shots. Sure he has Sniper, but i have found he is far to dice depended to have a place in my army as all to often he accomplishes close to nothing.
So, what i would suggest would be dropping him in favor of a Branch Wraith to hang with the Dryads, not only does she have good combat stats but she also brings that second lore of life you wanted, albeit at level 1
This also has the added bonus of putting less points in the Waywatcher unit, because they *will* have every magic missile possible thrown there way and the less points in there the better!
With the extra 40pts you save, if you are OK with proxying the first few games, try run the Glade Riders as Wild Riders. Wild Riders are CRAZY GOOD on the charge, try them once and you will not be disappointed!

Thanks for your reply Alex! Good point about the waystalker. It's a shame but I can just use him as a regular waywatcher in future. I like the branchwraith idea, it's good, at the very least I can get earthblood which, although not nearly the best option, it is better than nothing. That would leave my lvl 4 free to take shadow.
I love the idea of wild riders, and I have actually promised myself they are the next box I buy. I don't think I'll get away with proxying them though as I play at a GW store (as my flgs is horrible and the guys in GW are really great). I will however be buying them anyway at some point so I will try them out.
Thanks for the advice : )

Working just off of the models you have, you could do something like this.
Spellweaver: level 4, Talisman, Dispel Scroll and Asrai Longbow. 280
Branch Wraith. Level 1. 75
Branch Wraith. Level 1. 75
Glade Guard. 15 Glade Guard. Full Command. Gleaming Pendent. Trueflight. 260
10 Dryads. Branch Nymph. 120
5 Glade Riders. Musician. Hagbane. 118
8 Deepwood Scouts. Hagbane. 128
7 Waywatchers. 140
1196pts.
What has happened is i have dropped the Waystalker, Banner of Swiftness and down graded (I'd say upgraded personally) Lichebone to gleaming pendent to make points for 2 Branch Wraiths. I also had to trim off two Dryads to make sure you had the models, but no worries on that because it made points for an extra Waywatcher. I also dropped some of the more...excessive upgrades such as full command on the Glade Riders when you only really need the musician. You will have to try out if the Branch Wraiths work for you, as many people will say Dryads are a so-so combat unit, i personally disagree.
You stick them in that Venom Thicket you are assured to have and they become very effective with 27 poisoned attacks re-rolling to hit, even at strength 3 that will hurt! Also has the added bonus of giving you two extra channeling die and two rolls on Lore of Life, sure they are level 1 but when inside a forest they cast like a level 2 due to +1 to cast. And while i am not saying always do it, try out Lore of Beasts on the level 4. Specifically Savage Beast of Horrors or Wissans Wildform make Branch Wraiths monstrous, i haven't tried it often, but the time i did my opponents jaw dropped as each Branch Wraith put out 6 Str 7 attacks each!
Good luck.

Yeah I've seen people slate dryads and I don't have any experience to disagree with them, but on paper they don't look that bad at all. I'll definitely try it out with the 2 branchwraiths, if I can get regrowth or flesh to stone that would be good. Lore of beasts looks good, as does lore of death. It's so hard to choose but I'll have to try them all out in different games and get a feel for what I like.
Thanks again for your help Alex : )

Hello!
I'm starting up a Wood Elf army as well, so I'm scowering for what list people are using. I came across this thread, and was wondering if you could clarify something:
ALEXisAWESOME wrote: I also dropped some of the more...excessive upgrades such as full command on the Glade Riders when you only really need the musician.
Why? I'm going to have 8 Glade Guard coming (1 box), and am angling to get it upgraded to 10, and I wanted to make sure I understand this.
Lack of Standard Bearer is because they lack ranks, and will likely not win a combat based on combat resolution, they will be there to cause havoc and flank.
Lack of Glade Knight is because he lacks additional attacks, and thus isn't any better in H2H, and his 5BS isn't worth 10 points?
Am I on the right track there? I just want to make sure I understand. I see a lot of advice on here without an explanation of why it's good advice. And I'm not always clever enough to sort it out.

+1 BS not worth 10 points; Standard Bearer not useful for their purpose (harassing, warmachine hunting, chaff clearing).
