Dead man's corner is waiting to be built. But to know how to do that, I have to be sure how my rural roads are going te be like. Are they a part of the base for the building or not? After weeks of pondering and looking on the internet for inspiration, I started with a first attempt. It was a failure. I used thin plastic sheet, but it warped because of the heat of the glue gun. Plastic card of letter cases is thicker but it's a tough job to cut out. In the end, it came out as the winner. Curved roads will be harder, but we solve that problem later. W.i.p. of my piece of Normandy road.

Because the glue of the glue gun dries fast, I cut the cardboard in pieces. But in hindsight, I won't do that again. The lines are slightly visible at some places.

For drainage, I made the road a bit higher in the middle and added shoulders.

After the process of gluing I painted the road with brown wall paint with sand added to it. With plaster I added some tank tracks. After that, I spray painted it with respectively concrete, light brown and sand paint (Vallejo).

As for the curved roads,i had someone tell me to use old wood house paneling and a scroll saw was suggested.

A scroll saw would be a life saver.

Coffee stirrers & cardboard - Interesting concept to provide the "hump" to a road. So what did you use for the base, MDF?

It's plastic sheet from a letter tray. I got them cheap from a second hand store. It's thinner than the thinnest MDF, which is a benefit imo.

Wow.. !

That looks absolutely fantastic.

Think you can safely say that your second attempt has been a success! Looks very good.

Those mats make wonderful fields as well, now if there was only some way to make them less dense (without ruining the look) so that vehicles and infantry crossing them don't look like they are strangely levitating.

I always play where German and US troops have seen Children of the Corn too many times, and are afraid to enter them..

Cornfields are a future project. I think I will cut them up in pieces so you can temporarily remove sections to place miniatures inside. Perhaps use a Dremel or knife and make some room between the corn. Some burn marks and such.
