Another thread about what all armies people had got me to thinking about building another army. I already have two armies (Crimson Fists Marines and Chaos Daemons), and I really don't want to start another until I'm "finished" with each one.. I So I sat down and put together a list of models I want and once obtained, I'm done with that army (except for painint of course). Here's what I think will finish off my personal vision for each of my two armies:

Crimson Fists:

1 Land Raider (non-Godhammer variety)
5 Assault Terminators
5 Tactical Terminators
2 Land Speeders
1 Storm Talon
1 Storm Raven
1 Techmarine
2 Drop Pods

Chaos Daemons:

20 Bloodletters
10 Pink Horrors
6 Seekers
3 Heralds (one each for Khorne, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch)
1 Screamer
1 Cannon of Khorne

That's pretty much it. Doesn't seem like alot, but I know it will take me a couple of years to acquire those models, and probably even longer to paint them.

So what is left for your armies?

My Space Wolves have been in limbo for write some time, but in the last month I've added a Dread, Wolf Guard Terminators and Thunderwolf Cavalry, so they're actually nearing completion as a 2000 point force once I add a couple more troops units (I have the models, they just need a repaint).

My DA are pretty much done although I might add some more Ravenwing. My BA need a complete rework and may end up becoming an all Death Company army.

My Ultras are building to a full Battle Company, so I still need the assault and devastator contingents and a few more tac squad.

My GK and IG are all but done to 1750 and 3000 points respectively.

For my current 1750 listbuild, I need:

1x IG squad box to make Veterans
1x IG squad box to make an IG squad (lasguns ahoy!)
5x IG squad box to make a full Conscripts blob
and somehow pull together a further 9-10 heavy weapons teams with autocannons.

Well my army is being built around some fanon fluff I'm working on, long story short my Chaos Lord is trying to assemble himself a full legion of Renegade and Chaos Marines so I've divided my army buying into the 13 Companies he will have. Each company will be roughly 3000pts of models all with themes (Chaos Wolfs, Chaos Samurai, Bizzaro Ultramarines, etc.) Some armies will use Imperial Codexs as well, and I'm trying to use some of Anvil minis parts to make a couple Inquisitor strike teams to use as Count as Fallen Inquisitors in my army.

Long story short I think I'll need roughly 30000 dollars to finish it so I suppose after I graduate and get a good job, a house, a car, etc....then maybe just maybe I will be able to finish it.

To finish up my battle company to the point I’d like it to at I only need a few more guys. And that’s just WYSWYG wargear upgrades. More efficent command squad, a combi flamer sarge, swappable captain. All told, less then a half dozen guys.

In an ideal world I’d have enough transports for the whole lot of them. But I think I’m going to stop at 3 pods, 3 rhinos/razors (which I own, mostly painted). It’s enough for the tactical squads, and probably the upper end for what I would put on the table. I’m not in a rush to get stuff just to look pretty on the shelf.

I need more tanks. While technically part of my company, they are a big part of the army. I only own one pred, would like another. I could also use a WW, AA tank, and a vindi; maybe two of each, but that’s a stretch goal. I don’t see myself fielding a LRC/R but sometimes I’m tempted. If I owned one, it might see use.

I need a stormraven. Possibly a dev cent squad.

And by the time I get all that, whatever the hot new unit from the next codex is.

With my lists in the original post, those are what I want to obtain to fulfill my vision for each army (I can actually field large armies for each one). I think the SM additions will bring that army up to about 6K, while the CD additions would be more reasonable at about 3500-4K

Well, my main Sisters army is done, as is the expansion needed for bigger games. But my "dream Apocalypse size army" is not done. I recently did some work on how much I need and it is actually closer than I thought. Hard part is going to be penetient engines, or equivalents.

At least....

2 GW Baneblade hulls, one will be a Stormsword once I get the right guns and such only the hull is built, the other a Banesword or which ever one carries the Quake Cannon, the treads are still in pieces.

An Ordinatus Minoris built from the hull sof a T2 Hunter Killer tank and VK4502b with a mounted titan Melta Cannon for its main weapon. only the HK tank hull is built at the moment.

T95 Gun Motor Carriage 1/35th scale that will become a Shadowsword. still in box

WW1 Mk4 tank, possibly a Crassus variant like the triple bombard, still in box

1 Hellhound to be modded, 1 LR tank, not sure what it will be. perhaps a Exterminator but built into a Steam Tank, not the GW steam tank, just a steam powered tank with pistons, pipes, boiler and all.

1 Taurox, still in pieces.

M41 Bulldog, convert to Malcador, which one im not sure yet.

a Manitcore, Wyvern, LR Exterminator need paint, they only have a base coat.

I also have a massive War Zepplin that needs paint. But A friend of mine is going to air brush it and such.

plenty of blueprints in my book for future projects, hopeing to have an Ordinatus Majoris one day, but it will be the type that carries multiple Emperor Class titan weapons on board with load of armor, guns and shields, a Battleship on treads. it will have the carrying capacity to move platoons or squadrons of tanks for support and have a skysheild on its back for aircraft or a little extra firepower.

Beyond the Land Ship im not sure. I might move on to increase the forces of my custom Space Marines after I built my Land Ship. BUt otherwise it will never be "finished"

For my Nids:
2 Harpies, 1+ Box of Gargoyles, a crap ton of Termagants/Hormagants, and a few of the new big MCs (plus a couple of Warriors.

For my Eldar:
More Guardian Defenders, more War Walkers, and my friend is trying to talk me into getting a Revenant Titan, but I say "No. If I get a titan, it's gonna be a Phantom."

Plus painting on pretty much everything.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

The army will never be finished because the war will never be finished. Even when I am long gone, this army will fight under other stewards!!!

In all honesty I don't think I ever can simply because there will always be one more brilliant idea to convert.

Nothing. I am simply expanding it when I feel like something worth while comes a long.

If I have a finish point, the goal posts keep moving. I dont wanna end up with a HUGE collection of models like some people do.

For Fantasy Flight Games to stop distracting me with Star Wars IP?

If I can dip my entire army in paint and be happy with the results?

Get GW do stop updating every army I have (in 1/4 the time they used to) so that core elements need so much tweaking?

If my friends can stay with one game system long enough without being distracted by something shiny like a magpie on crack?

Yep, pretty much covers it!

I think setting a point goal is helpful for staying committed. I actually have practical reasons (If that's possible when collecting toy soldiers) for getting to 4500 points. My local GW store hosts monthly apocalypse battles in which players are asked to bring 4000 points (with a free super-heavy).

I would love more time. Now that the school year is starting I will have approximately zero hours per week to model.

In truth my army almost complete in the fact that I can field most guard builds, but to finish up the conversion I would need a few more boxes of Brettonian men at arms and MK3 breacher arms from FW for my vets.
Things it want though
- at least one of every knight (including yet to be released ones)
-2 vulture gunships
-Thunderbolt fighter
-maybe 1-2 manticores or deathstrikes
- A Black Templars ally force, but that's a whole beast unto itself
