Subject: I Fought da law and da law burnt me at the stake for heresy. Arbites log!
Doing a little project of arbites, Just a few models. Or a unit/ Or two. Or three. Maybe a taurox. And a repressor. And a sector house...
Always loved arbites, their general style, the Judge Dredd influences (read: same thing). Basically wanted to do something with them since i saw the taurox, so it's happening now.
Very early days, just have a couple of arbitors with heads repositioned, and my very own Arbitrator Foreboding.
Foreboding was briefly mentioned as an in-universe fictional character in the Ciaphas Cain books, but i'm being totally meta and making a real person model of a fictional character within a fictional universe. I like to think he's like Dog the bounty hunter, and actually a real guy, they just point servo-cameras at him sometimes.
But yeah, pretty much the second i found out that that guy was a thing, i needed one.
I've also started on my Sector House, just a fun little project as i had a few building kits lying around! Have to track down a bastion to finish it though. Adding another level, and a LOT more detail, plus the bastion tower, this is maybe 10% in.
But the important thing is, it has the defence flamers installed, for dispersing foul heretics such as rioters or democracy campaigners
Oh, general art direction, for obvious reasons, is 2000AD, so dark blue bodysuits, black armour, gold sigils, green gloves/boots, standard-issue scowls.
Got a fair bit in mind i want to do, possibly a shira calpurnia if i can find a good base model, a taurox carrying a riot shield squad and repressor carrying a standard one. Riot shield squad may have a giant ogryn arbite, because a giant riot shield and shock maul would be hilarious.
Also doing 3 arbite bikers because, you know, Lawmasters.
Strongly considering a 40k Judge Cal (& Fish), we'll see!
Hopefully more updates soon, if my hobby ADHD doesn't kick in!
This soundtrack and Anthrax are pretty great motivation to work though.

Great start have you checked out Foundry and Warlord Games Judge Dredd range as well?

What's that resin Arbitor from? Never seen it before.

What's that resin Arbitor from? Never seen it before.
Looks like a modified version of the Arbitor that was the FW event model from a year or two ago with the arms and head modified. Might be wrong though.
Them models look quite unique would be nice to see them painted sometime to get full effect of them

@Llama, of course! got a nice lot of 2000AD figs from all over, i'm trying not to do anything really overt but i might splice some bitz over... Plus occasional little nods here and there.
@Joe, Aye, really simple to move the heads on the arbites around but they look a LOT less 90's with it done. The sculpts really hold up well, just a bit too static until you do that.
Also aye, had some maxmini heads, foreboding has one! Trying to keep them to a minimum though, want most standard arbites wearing the actual lid, or an enforcer one. No problem with the kitbashes but i don't want a mix and match of designs really, faceless arm of the law and all that.
I am sadly the world's slowest painter, i've had a luna wolves project for 2 years now and painted half a marine. Much quicker with building stuff. But we'll see what i get done!
Built the basic top floor, started a lot of the detailing throughout. Added various guns, a statue (Esteemed Judge Fargo, if you were interested... I love the old arbiter sergeant model but even for 40k it makes no sense. I can't have a guy with an eagle hat rocking around with a squad of tacticool'ed, realistic-ish arbites. But he makes a great statue!), a storage courtyard with a little 2000AD nod and some balconies.
Need to get ahold of a bastion to do the top floor/roof, at which point it'll have the tower offset, with a giant-ass eagle head protruding from it as a nod to the halls of justice, while the rest of the roof'll be a firing point. Also, random empty spaces of plasticard/sintra on the building right now won't remain so, going to detail, add rivets e.t.c. later, also adding a huge winged fist to the front panel because arbites. Plus work on the streets around it, obviously.
Also done but not pictured, primed the 3 models done so far! So maybe i'll actually get something painted... Sorting a trade for a drokkload of enforcers, arbites, some repressor tanks, e.t.c. right now too .

I considered it, but he's also just really static. I could do something cool with it with some work but given i'm getting a few of the enforcer sergeants with the trenchcoats, i'll probably just focus on one of those instead,
To be fair the mini just looks like a statue already, so he's perfect.
Currently working on some arbites myself, will be popping in here to steal ideas on your hall of justice
Will these be used for necromunda as well as 40k?
I'm much more of a fluffer (ooh er) than a gamer, i do remember really enjoying necromunda so possibly if i can ever set up a game! But most projects i do are just to look pretty.
I'll follow vague codex rules but only insofar as fluff, and build what looks cool rather than what makes any rules sense
For my 10 or maybe 12 planned guys I figure they can fit into a few set ups, scions using special shotgun rounds, the riot shield guys can be crusaders in a inquisitors retinue with robo hounds counting as arco flagellants, they all fit into necromunda plus if I ever get around to it an army of them can count as marine scouts.
Right, quick paintjob on the first two arbitors. Terrible pics, but whatever, it's just to keep up a vague flow of updates so i don't forget about this project too.
I think the colour scheme works. Close to judges, without shoehorning it in, and without having the overly vibrant look i don't like. As ever, the chipping looks better in real life, grr.
Action pics because reasons
Have to get hold of a bastion to finish the sector house, get those arbites in a trade sorted, and get hold of a taurox and a single bullgryn, so the only thing i really have left do to for now is paint Arbitrator Foreboding.
I think they look great, but I'm not sure about the green and black. It seems a bit dull, like it might all blend together from a distance. Maybe if you strenghtened the green with a green or blue glaze/wash. Otherwise they look good, especially the gold. Did you use a blood effect paint for the red lenses?
Btw I love the arbites compound, I'm going to have to get around to beginning my own, one of these days.

Mmh, i get where you're coming from, but i really like the muted look on most of my minis, with spots of excessive colour scattered around. OSL e.t.c. That's a matter of personal preference though i think, a LOT of people i know don't like my painting style that much, lol.
I wanted to get the black-blue-green Judge colour combo without coming out too cartoony and vibrant, anyway. Way i see it, arbites wouldn't exactly be glowing and obvious, too functional and tactical for that. So yeah, they'll be primarily muted, with flashes of colour from lit power-mauls, lights, vehicle lamps e.t.c.
The lenses are standard lens paintjobs with a coat of tamiya clear! so, similar.
How about a bit more red? I went with a dull red for my guns, a nice big bar of a different colour in the middle of the model might help? If not that then a bit of red around the visor? Or some more red somewhere else? With more red on top?
Rather than thinking brighter colours(I'm a fan of muted and realistic tones myself) I was thinking that by glazing/ washing with green(or indeed, red ) you could create a slightly more vibrant tone that would, I think, just make them 'pop'. That or slight bone highlights on the top of the green, so the colour is less flat. Its up to you of course, they look great either way.

I like the realistic (for 40K) "tacticool" look, a lot. Arbites need more love ... and a codex. Matt Forish has a lovely fandex here.
Automatically Appended Next Post: PS: Discussion thread for that fandex is here.

Well, did say i was terrible at sticking to projects.
Had a random urge to muck about with the arbites again recently - started repainting the first two arbiters (Blacker armour, OSL from the gun lights, detailing, rusted bases), then ended up building some more from odds and sods i'd gathered - scaling back the project a lot. Aiming for a squad of arbites, a Bullgryn, and a bike. Possibly a Repressor if i can get hold of one. Trying to do tihs as a free, trade-only project when arbites are metal crack on ebay is a bit rough!
Anyway - gang as it stands, little bit of work on the precinct house
New additions are a couple of shield guys, a champion with weapon swaps (Pistol i've had in my bitz box forever, power fist from the Elysian command set.), and a Not-Lawmaster. Added maul, GS-cast arbites shoulder, removed aquila on the chest. The two fellas in the back are missing heads as i'm casting them up for the bike fella and something else!
Working trades for some more arbites and a bullgryn - Also toying with converting a Mongoose judge cal for a Senioris! really trying toget hold of robodogs, too. As opposed to the Robo-horse the FW enforcer came with...
Updates soon!... probably.
Maybe. Who knows.
Don't rule it out.

Outstanding! You have pretty high standards if wearing a giant eagle on your head relegates you to being a statue. : ) I'd say 50% of the 40K range is at least as silly as that guy.

Llamahead - yup! Better proportions/detail. considered adding a chaplain or DA fairing to the front, but it came off too ostentatious.
Kestral - absolutely! lol. I do like that fig - i love 40k's intense satirical excessiveness in a lot of ways. But given how 'tacticool', reasonable and straightforward i do my arbites, seems odd to have some guy running around with a giant golden eagle hat.
Stabby - ta! Have seen the Judge heads - very, very cool, lol. Heavily considered grabbing some, but i'm just not sure where i'd use them! gathered enough actual arbites, casting arbite helmets, and all that. Potentially an eventual heavy-armoured arbite squad... we'll see.
The necrohounds i've not seen! Those are really, really awesome, i like those a lot, cheers. Have put them on the want list!
