Greetings Dakka. My friends and I finally got around to having another Winner DrinK All tournament in my basement. For those of you that didn’t catch my first: (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/551324.page)

The concept is simple everyone brings 2 six packs of Beer. The first is to drink during the tournament, the second goes to the prize pot. The winner of the tournament gets all the beer in the pot. We have 6 players so that is 36 beers to the winner. We do battle points for scoring, 8 for a win, 5 for a draw, 3 for a loss. You can gain up to 3 extra battle points each round 1 for killing a magic die contributor, 1 for the capping the BSB, and 1 for the General. The last round we play Capture the Crown where you get 2 extra points for the crown.

This year we played 3K and for armies we had 2 Empire, 1 Ogre, 1 O&G, 1 High Elves, and my Dark Elves.

Capture the Crown!!

We all had a blast, but the beer did not stay at my house. Our results were:
31pts Empire
24pts O&G
21pts High Elves
20pts My Dark Elves
18pts Empire
15pts Ogres

I got smacked in Round 1 by an Empire gun line that made it an uphill battle to recover from. I can’t feel too bad though because that was our overall winner. The crazy thing was he was borrowing my army. All joking aside I have not played Warhammer in a year and my first time using the new Dark Elf book, so I was happy with coming in 4th. I did walk away with something because I won the “crown” in round 3.

Some things I learned.
1)Do not underestimate mortors.
2)40 Blackguard Rock!
3)Foot of Gork really hurts
4)I now fully know what Mangler Squigs do

This may be the greatest tournament format of all time.

Consider this idea well and goodly stolen.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

There is not this idea.

An important question remains: What were the beers?

Looks like Pyramid in picture 1.
Bluemoon on the background of picture 2.
Pic 3 is tough, bottle shape and color looks like a Karl Strauss beer, side shot of label could be a Tower 10 IPA.

Yeah, 90 breweries within 30 minutes of me. Must steal this idea.

The Orc and Ogre players are brothers so they brought a 12 pack of Blue Moon. The High elf player and I each brought Yingling. Someone brought some Angry Orchard and the last was in that black bag on in front. I have no idea what that was. We all brought different stuff for during the tournament. That all goes in to a cooler everyone is welcome to share that.

I am glad to see that we have inspired others, I would love to see some pics if any of you try this. This is our 2nd. Due to real life it took a year to get another in. I am hoping we can make it an every 6 month event. Most of us have kids now (or on the way) and need the break.

I shoulda recognized the blue moon, really.

I'd love to try something like this, but I only know one other gamer, so we'd just end up... exchanging beers, i guess? Which is all right, but not quite the same.

Keep trying the work will pay off. It took a while to get all these guys together. We all have crazy schedules some kids in there, some deployments, but sooner or later the stars align and everyone gets together. Even if it is just you and a buddy, basement gaming & beer beat game stores and gamer funk any day

Great stuff. I'm mostly a 40k player but I think I'll try to import the format. Honestly, I am a fan of combining vices, and this seems like a great way to play in general. You could do it with 4 players and lower points to make it a quicker day.

Any anecdotes about particularly erratic play once in-game beer and crown had been consumed?

I would have loved to try this for 40K but alas only 2 of my friends play it. I am so far out of touch on it I have no idea what is going on anymore. I have played 0 games of 7th, about 3 of 6th, mostly played 3rd-5th. When 6th drdropped it just about nuked 40K in my area

Yeah, 6th had a lot of flaws, but 7th has added a lot of excitement to the game again, albeit some new complications. Definitely worth a demo game if you can find someone to pew pew with in your area.
