I'm looking to make a themed ork force based around Grukk's life. Going into his period on blistered isle I decided to make a smaller force to represent his tiny following, with the only orks being Meks, his nobs, some Warbuggies, and the runt herds. I was wondering if this list was even slightly competitive while keeping with the Blistered Isle fluff.

Formation: Grukk's Rippin Krew- 520
Grukk- 130
Skrak's Skull Nobz- 190
Rustgob's Runts- 40 (emailed GW and they told me to play it as 40 instead of 45)
Krumpa's Killa Kans- 160

CAD- 479
Big Mek with 'eavy armor, KFF, cybork body- 94 (Fluff: main builder, built tellyport array)
Mekaniak Mek with Kustom Megablasta- 20 (Fluff: messed with remote when array was hit with lightning)

10 Grots, Runtherd with grabba stick and squib hound- 40 (Fluff: Grots rounded up by Skrak)
10 Grots, Runtherd with grabba stick and squib hound- 40 (Fluff: Grots rounded up by Skrak)

Warbuggy with rokkit- 25 (Fluff: Grot scrap wagon)
Wartrakk with rokkit- 30 (Fluff: Grot scrap sledge/wagon)

3 Mek Gunz, 2 kannons, 1 traktor Kannon, 1 ammo runt each- 75
3 Killa Kans with 2 rokkit launches and 1 grotzooka- 155

Total- 999

Meks go with Grot units, KFF mek goes behind Kans, Buggies and trakks zoom around shooting at tanks, Mek Guns are AA, The Rippin Krew deep strikes, Grukk goes with grot unit as a wound screen.

Should I change the Wartrakk to a skorcha? Any suggestions that fit the fluff are appreciated?

Seems ok, I am not sure about his fluff so couldn't tell you about that.

Grots are not competitive at all to me. So I would say no to the list being competitive. But cool as far as theme goes.

You really shouldn't mix weapons in the Kans or the Mek guns squads.

I agree that Grots aren't competitive, that's why I took the minimum (in the fluff he has no orks with him)

Well you did ask if we thought it could be competitive. I was saying no because of the Grots.

As far as I know the list seems like it could be fun. I don't know what the formation does or doesn't do. It seems fluffy from what you have said. I might go unbound and try to maximize on kans or big guns and see what that could do for you.

Why are there no Orks boys? When the Meks and nobs and himself are in fact Orks. Just seems weird to me.

Fluff. Aside from Nobz, runt herders, and Meks he has no orks. The formation grants a complete turn one deepstriking and basically his warlord trait with unlimited range to the formation.

But why? I understand they are not there, but why are they not there?

Because Grukk got crushed by a tank and only his most loyal followers and some Grots rescued him

Oh, interesting.

I say go with it and see what it does. Except I would change what I already told you to change. The kans weapons shouldn't be mixed nor should the Mek guns.

The mek guns are mixed with kannons and traktor to provide some AA, and the kannons can snap fire. Then on ground fire they can still function.

That's a very nice fluffy army. I am very curious/impatient to read your battle report though.

Balsak, its important to note that the formation rules that he's using (Grukks rippin Krew) outlines the wargear that each model must take. (And yeah, the jerkass who designed the formation gave the kanz all different guns and the nobz useless, garbage tier wargear- mostly kombi rokkits with no ccw aside from the default choppa. Meanwhile, the Space Wolf formation that came in Stormclaw opposite the orks is goddamn AMAZING)

In exchange for taking horribly optimized weapon combinations, everyone in that formation deep strikes automatically on ork turn one as if they were a drop pod assault type of deal.

Also, while the rest of the formation blows, Grukk himself is actually a pretty good alternative to the bog standard warboss. (He comes with a Squig, PK w/ Shred, heavy armour, and 5+ FNP base, and he has the ld bubble warlord trait).

Even if you totally drop the formation (which honestly isnt that great. The deep strike is nice, but I mean deep striking grots! Oh god! Grots were soooo scary to begin with and now THEYRE DEEP STRIKING? THE HORROR!) and just re-write the list to focus on Grukk himself, I think it wouldnt be too bad. Just surround him with seriously scary melee nobs all in a few trucks or battlewagons, "supported" by grots if you really want to stick to the theme. The rippin krew formation is bad news bears, and also a bad delivery system for Grukk (who really is the star of your list both thematically and tabletop-wise. The guy is a beast!). Trucks or wagons would definitely be worth it. Take 3 elites slots of nobz in transports and actually give them melee weapons, and you'll certainly be better off.

I don't know if the list will be competitive objectively speaking, but it'll be MORE competitive than the Rippin Krew
