What do you guys think the next 40k starter set will be? They've done Tyranids vs. Space Marines, Orks vs. Space Marines, and Dark Angels vs. Chaos Space Marines. I thought it should be Chaos vs. Grey Knights. What are your thoughts?

"The space marine officer was waving and yelling to his men on the wall unaware he was leading the Squiggoth on. Stompy (the squiggoth) headbutted its way through the wall and gave chase to the terrified commander as he ran up seven tiers of the fortress, trying to close gates behind him and ordering men to cover his fight. In the end, stompy cornered and pulverised the officer in the heart of the citadel as thousands of orks poured through the breaches he had left behind."

My thoughts are that the link leads to a 404.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Personally I think the 7th edition starter set is going to look like THIS.

defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

I would love to see a Grey Knights vs Bloodletters, Bloodcrushers + Herald and desecrated gothic chapel ruins starter set, but that would just be wishful thinking.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

1. That was not a leak. Space Wolves vs Orks was a real set.
2. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/611626.page

It will probably be Blood Angels vs Necron/Dark Eldar.

Space Wolves vs Orks was more of a campaign set not a starter set, I think its kind of weird that it replaced Dark Vengance.

It didn't replace Dark Vengeance. It was a single-print-run campaign box. Dark Vengeance with the 6th ed book replaced with a 7th ed bok is the 7th ed starter.

Blood Angels (next SM Army on the block it seems) vs either Newcrons or Dark Eldar I'm guessing.

Probably not be a "starter kit" though. Starter kits are a waste of money for GW, which is why AoBR's generic Marines and useful multi-part kits turned into Dark Vengeance's single faction, monopose models.

The one thing GW doesn't want to sell more of is starter kits. All of the discarded rulebooks, templates and other such simply represent a lower profit margin per unit. I'm guessing AoBR was looked at as a huge disappointment in that regard. They probably sold a bajillion of them, but for far less than they would have gotten selling those models individually.

With DV, you can really only use so many of those models more than once.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Which is why you see things like dark angels and space wolves being used as "the marines" in many sets.
It discourages many players from buying it as they "cant use" the models because they are the "wrong marines" It also encourages others o start entirely new "marine type" armies by giving them a start on it.
Personally, I just paint them in my colors and have an eclectic looking "marines" army.

Assault on black reach was a steal for new players I would know I bought one lol. Storm Claw is nearly twice the price, it also has grots instead of boyz I do like the looks of the HQ though. The Kanz are a nice touch to. Does anyone know if the Space Wolves are any good?

Ideally, the next set will be Blood Angels vs. Dark Eldar. They are pretty much always going to include a SM army of some sort, but like others have said, they are probably only going to put specific chapters in a set now. I would love it if they put Vanilla Marines in a starter again, but that is highly unlikely. Still, I could make use of the Blood Angels, either by stripping off the chapter markings with a lot of sanding and filing, or by just using them as a secondary army or ally army. I am more interested in the set if it comes with Dark Eldar, since I am trying to get my brother-in-law playing, and that is the army he is most interested in.

In short, best case but unlikely scenario Unmarked Space Marines vs. Eldar or Dark Eldar. Most likely scenario, Blood Angels with molded shoulder pauldrons and other chapter specific markings vs. Eldar or Dark Eldar.

AoBR is more useful to more people, but DV is a lot more fluffy and unique. I lean toward DV, even though it doesn't have anything I can use. Same with Stormclaw.

I would love a new starter to come out. I know with the snap fit you can't use an extreme amount of each unit, but the simplicity of putting them together and the detail is great. Honestly, I have a little bit of everything (nearly) when it comes to 40k and I will purchase the next starter set regardless of which marines vs whatever is in it. I feel like it's a great way to start a new army or build upon an existing one
