About to go into my first game of CSM,
I originally had a 1850 point list but I figure I would take my less points for my first match.
It seems like the things I am lacking in are the shear number of troops I have to field and Heavy Support.
What are your thoughts?

HQ
Lord, Axe of blind fury, Juggernaut, Mok, Sigil of Corruption, Voltw
175pts

Troops
4 CCW/BP CSM, MoK
1 champ, Combimelta, MoK
85pts
Rhino, Dirge Caster, Combibolter
45pts

looks ok, i would say from my own experience that 5 man units of CSMs don't work, yes they are good at good at combat and have anti tank ability but still i feel that if you want a good go at something like this you need bigger units or a lot more smaller ones.

also i really like your choice in HQ but again i feel its a bit out of place, 1 round of shooting could easily take him off the table.

spawn i have never tried so can't really say much about them other than their T5 is a bit pointless with 3 wounds and no save, also correct me if I'm wrong as i i have never seen it done or even though of it tbh, I'm not sure you can join cav to beasts.

drake is great everyone needs 1 lol

oblits are awesome for support no doubts there a bit expensive but still good.

try something like this from the black legion codex.

HQ kharn

TROOPS

2 5 man chosen units all with MoK twin lightening claws and they have to take VotLw, give champs melta bombs
rhinos for these guys

HEAVY

5 man havoc squad with MLs with flak, has to take VotLw, MoN and melta bombs on the champ

if you wanted to you could use 2 MLs and 2 las cannons to free up 10 points to give the rhinos their casters.

the reason there is no drake is because everyone expects you to use one so they prepare for it, then you put your army down and no drake?

i would say use chosen with this set up because you get 25 attacks on the charge with rerolls on charge range, counter attack and furious charge...... don't forget the AP3 reroll to wound claws. they are rather expensive but this is a 5 man troop unit that can take on MCs with ease.

kharn is always number 1 choice for a khorne based army for me as he can and has done on several occasions taken out an imperial knight army by himself, seriously, S7 on the charge with 2D6 on armour pen with 7 attacks on the charge as well, he is the answer to so many things.

as for the havocs, they are there to sit on an objective on your deployment and provide support against tanks and aircraft.

hope this helps in some way.

Space Wolves 4000
Grey Knights 3500
Tyranids 1500
Space Marines 2000
Blood Angels 2000
Black Templars 2500
Dark Angels Dark Vengeance x3
Chaos Space Marines Dark Vengeance x3

the only way to feel alive when faced with certain death is to destroy all in the name of khorne

I actually like the original list more. Looks effective, unlike Chosen that just cost too much IMO.
Kharn is also a debatable character as he has only 3+/4++ which isn't that good for your warlord.

A pure CC-HQ like Juggerlord, but Jugger gets to close combat faster.

Kharn is a good choice, but you have to hurl him against the enemy with an escort which risks fratricide, but they are simply extra wounds to keep him going like the Energizer bunny.
